Hi there! I used to spend all my pocket money on Japanese toy mechs in the '80s, and I owned just about every single toy version of the VF-1 series Valkyries from Macross. Takatoku made the original toy Valkyries for the Macross TV show. Bandai took over when Takatoku went of business, and they were just in time to make brand new Valkyries for "Macross: Do You Remember Love", a feature length movie retelling of the Macross TV show. The new Valkyries included the VT-1 Superostrich trainer, the VE-1 Elintseeker radar plane, and the VF-1A in white (they were olive drab in the show). You can also tell TV show and movie VF-1S mechs by the trim color: yellow for the TV show, and red for the movie. So Jetfire was a movie VF-1S, and specifically a VF-1S Valkyrie with Space Parts, which were the extra parts that attached to it. You can tell the different VF-1 mechs by their head lasers. The VF-1S has 4, the VF-1J has 2, and the VF-1A, the regular grunt version, has 1. This knock-off is a pretty good replica of the Bandai VF-1S, except for those weird molding bits you pointed out. The transformation is identical, and the GERWALK mode was iffy on the original toy too. GERWALK stands for Ground Effect Reinforced Winged Armament with Locomotive Kneejoint. The rifle used a separate clip that attached to one arm to sling it under the jet. There was also a removable shield for the canopy to be used in Battroid/Robot mode. I think the Valkyrie is the greatest Japanese mech ever designed.

Thank you so much for the information! My sole exposure to Macross was Robotech when I was a kid... I still haven't seen all of Macross (it's so hard as an adult to find time to watch anything anymore), but I, like you, find the Valkyrie to be one of the most amazing mech designs to ever exist. When I was a kid I traded some G.I. Joe figures with a kid for a broken, weaponless, one-armed Converters Zark, which was a repurposed Takatoku VF-1 by Mark toys released through Select in the States... but I loved that thing fiercely, and I carried it with me everywhere. Losing it when we moved from one place to another is still one of my greatest toy regrets. Thanks again for the valuable info!!!

I enjoyed that. As a kid in the 80s I had some 6in Robotech Valkyrie figures. (Chinatown KOs). This was very nostalgic.

I love getting KO toys from Ali too. There’s quite a few cheap ultraman Kaiju figures worth checking on there maybe for some future stupid force series

Heck yeah! I loves me some Ultraman! Good idea!

The original toy was made by Takotoku. I'd be interested in a KO if it had the exact same deco as G1 Jetfire.

New to the channel. Enjoyed the toy history lesson. You sound very young, but if you played with the original Jetfire ; you must be of certain age. Could never afford the original Transformers or Macross toys, sadly. The newer ones are much smaller scale and probably not as good.

Man, I wish they'd do one that didn't have so many weird ugly added details... I'd love an affordable replica of Jetfire or the Veritech.

Hahahaha! The original was for sure! Die-cast metal flying at a tiny kid's thumb at 90mph was no joke! 🤣
