I experienced a Swiss A220 take off from London City airport - the engine spooled up with the brakes still on, and upon release you can feel the whole plane lean back. Then a few seconds later the engine spools up even more, resulting in a second push. The plane seemed to lift off in just over 10 seconds - it was the most exhilarating take off I have experienced.
@srinitaaigaura Жыл бұрын
That's exactly what it sounds like here too. Maybe the engine waits for a while for the air to start rushing into the engines before going to TOGA thrust.
@SYDAirlineEnthusiast Жыл бұрын
You basically would need to liftoff within ten seconds. The runway is only 4,900 feet and you need to be of a certain altitude by the time you fly over Downtown London
@abdullaharif645511 ай бұрын
@@srinitaaigaura The second spool during the takeoff is the engines going to the set thrust (1:55), after initially being limited to a slightly lower thrust until a certain speed was reached. This low speed thrust limitation is to keep the aircraft more stable at low speed.

Impressive. Would recommend flat palming the back of the throttles in case you need to apply TOGA (just push forward). Putting your fingers around them runs the risk of pulling them back if the chair shifts backwards. Watched that happen to a Capt on the 727. If you flat palm the back, if you go back, you don't take the throttles with you.

I see that this plane waits for a few seconds at moderate takeoff thrust (1:47-1:54) until going to full takeoff power (1:55). I've read that it is to keep the plane more stable at lower speed. Is this true? The A380 with RR engines does the exact same thing, though it is more for avoiding engine issues than aircraft stability.
@mscigniewrudzinski5053 Жыл бұрын
the engines take longer to spool up in the lower thrust settings. Commanding takeoff thrust directly from idle could result in one engine spooling up faster than the other, resulting in asymmetric thrust, hence the pilot sets thrust around 40%n1, waits for both engines to reach it, calls stabilised, and then sets the optimal takeoff thrust. That's the case for all multi engine jet aircraft. The A380, you've mentioned is quite unique, with 3 stage run up.
@abdullaharif645511 ай бұрын
@@mscigniewrudzinski5053I know that on every aircraft the engines are stabilised somewhere between idle and set takeoff thrust. What I meant here is that the aftermentioned aircraft do not go directly to the set thrust from the stabilisation point; rather they stay at a slightly lower than set thrust for a few seconds and then go to the set thrust, resulting in a double spool from the stabilisation point.

But when the program for CSeries was halted for 4 yrs, Rockwell moved from Montreal to toronto with Bombardier dehavelland and continued the Vision System, and we integrated it into the Global Express. It flew there first. I worked with both the Montreal and Toronto dev teams. I also worked on the original RJ program from 1990. There were fun and sad times over the years but I wouldn't have traded these experiences for anything. I am proud of the now A220 (this a 😔 issue for me) it was given away to Airbus. Why are the screens darker than the windshield views? Shouldn't the screens have the same reflectance as the outdoor ambient view? Why not design the lighting so the screens are darkened for night flights and only bright during daylight flights. This would reduce the adaptation time required for pilots to look outside and then, look at their screens. Precious seconds saves lives.

Could you share your route (SID, airways, waypoints, STAR, procedure/runway, etc.) and cruise altitude? I'd like to duplicate the flight in my simulator. Thank you.
