my understanding is that the bolting band is only for certain protected areas

This is true, however there was already regulation on further route development in those areas meaning no new bolts were able to be put down. So going back and restricting access to these natural areas through bolt cutting seems redundant? Like destroying a worn trail, I feel that there should be genuine environmental concern for each area if they were going to go through with bolt cutting. Climbing brings traffic to these areas; while traffic is terrible it does bring money, awareness, and empathy which can be leveraged to solve greater issues for the environment.

Sounds like they are proposing something similar to the UK, although in the UK they dont enforce it by law. In the uk it is extremely frowned open to bolt mountians or culutrally significant crags (like the peaks). But is ok to bolt quarrys and some non culturally signficant crags. It seems mad here that they are changing historical and already bolted routes.

They’re not actually proposing banning bolts, they’re proposing requiring permits. As long as they’re reasonable about issuing permits, it’s not really that outlandish

It's hilarious how far off it is from reality what the news reporters are saying.

@@benjaminwiebe5631 It's not just the news, either. It's the Access Fund too. I'm losing some faith in them for the sensationalizing

No power drills, no problem. Bolts didn't define climbing until pretty recently. Earn it.,

This is rubbish. I wonder what is the end goal with this.
