Welcome to a unique edition of It Depends podcast recorded live with SiliconAngle theCUBE. Dave Vellante, Merv Adrian, Tony Baer, and I attended IBM’s AI and Quantum Analyst Day at the renowned Thomas Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York along with almost 50 analysts.
IBM is a sleeping giant that has woken up. It has decades of research and products under its belt which it is now channeling towards gaining AI leadership. IBM’s head of research, Dario Gil and chief commercial officer, Rob Thomas set the pace by showcasing their close cooperation in taking their research to production at a torrid pace.
IBM announced watsonx in May 2023 and is already GA with watsonx.ai, watsonx.data, and Code Assistant. And now, it has announced watsonx.governance. IBM has its own LLM called Granite and one of its use cases is to use natural language to write COBOL code for mainframe and then translate it into Java.
Hat’s off to IBM’s AR team for an amazing event - DanO’Brien, Paridhi Verma, Jacklyn Allgayer, Marvin Goodman and John Spooner amongst others.
