@@DavyBrandoOh that's right. Paarl has two traditional rugby schools. I'm a Kiwi, but I have watched quite a few schoolboy games between South African and New Zealand schools. Most I've seen, have Sth Africa winning. They have a great reputation in world 1st xv rugby. The NZ schools I've seen though, are not the best rugby schools in the country. Never any of the top Auckland schools, or the best school, Hamilton Boys high, who beat Greys College last year at the World Schools festival. The Saffa boys are always good though. Thanks for the info. I always am interested in what school international players come from. Especially NZ and Saffa players. The two most successful rugby nations in history, will always have the best schoolboy rugby systems. My interest in 1st xv rugby comes from my own schoolboy days. I went to St. Stephens, a now defunct maori boys boarding school. We were renowned around the country for our rugby, and we're always one of the best first fifteens in NZ. , winning the the Top Four 1st xv competition multiple times. I was lucky enough to win one of these. Auckland Grammar, Kelston Boys high, Mt. Albert Grammar, and Jonah Lomu's school, Wesley College, were the other top schools. We had no grammar, boys high, or college in front of our name like all of the other teams. We were simply known as St. Stephens. And our genetic make up made us unique. We also featured prominently in the national U15 tournament as well. I won one of those too. The one I played in had 12 of the best rugby schools in the country. It contained three future All Blacks. Two would go on to become All Black legends. For a school of 400 maori boys, we had 13 teams. Rugby was everything.

As for the commentator's cousins comment, it unsurprisingly drew negative response from my fellow Irishmen. While it's true we wouldn't be saying that in the Northern Hemisphere, the reality is it's true, us irish have been emigrating to England for centuries, they've blended in, changed names even at times. There was a DNA study done a few years back showing every English region had more input in the last 5 centuries from Ireland than it did from specific regions of England. Also in regard to the plantations of Ireland, though the planters largely didn't mingle for a long time, over the past century that's changed and though I have no known English ancestry myself, I have a decent few relatives who do have some Anglo-Irish ancestry. Also though the English are clearly more Germanic than other parts of Britain and Ireland, they still have a lot of native British (Pre Anglo Saxon) ancestry, again according to DNA studies. So, yeah that term cousins might draw a gasp from us Irish, but genetically at least it's true, if he had said brothers that would have been a stretch though 😅

I don’t want to be picky in a game that seems very well contested but that last Ireland try would never stand in a men’s game…you can run the dummy line but you can’t make contact with a player 😮 personally think Ireland should have won this though as they look quality to be fair

@@DJCam87 It's penalized when the ball carrier was close to the dummy runner. In this scenario the tackler is too far away from the ball carrier for the dummy runner to have made any difference (The English tackler didn't even appeal, he knew himself that the dummy runner made little difference in stopping the tackle). Its the same in test rugby, referees want fast/watchable matches, they don't want to be blowing their whistle every 2 seconds so are likely to let things like this slide unless they are blatantly obvious.

Baffling to think Ireland under 20s don't have a reliable kicker. Maybe an off day. The "cousins" reference was hilarious. The Irish word for "English" is Sasanaigh (Saxon), or German. Gaelic Ireland ain't German. As for England being Anglo Saxon, above my pay grade. Best to as the Windsors, members of that wonderful dynasty the Hanoverian House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

Just watched 10 minutes of New Zealand vs British Lions 2nd Test in 1971. Much more action in the match then in these highlights; much more ball skill in those 10 minutes than the bash the ball over here. The once beautiful game that was rugby, involving athletes ( amateur) having to be fit for full 80 minutes has devolved to throwing bigger bodies at bigger bodies (who can be substituted for when weary) and less attention to creation of space. The flow of these "highlights" ie the best parts of the game, are to my eye boring. Why anyone would rish their bodies (even lives...underreported 22 deaths in last 4 years) is beyond me. It might be the pay check, but then, the paycheck I submit is part of the decline and spirit of a once beautiful game.
