That was just nonsense 😂 To be honest the US is a bit delusional sometimes when it comes to the US national mens team. Whenever they have a couple of super talented players that are important to their club they think they have a chance. While there are are countries that have a full 11 and bench of players that are amongst the best player in the world for their position. Of course there is always a chance to win but this is a lot smaller than those teams. The reality is that it will always feel like you have a team that is almost there if you always depend on a few good players. I'm Dutch, and almost all of our players play in big teams but we feel we have a weak team because not many of those have the quality to carry a team or are considered among the best in the world for their respective position. Just as the USA we are just a team with some important players and some talents who might develop into important players, which will then have to play with other talents while never reaching the quality of a full team of stars

To be fair Matthew McConaughey is one of the few Hollywood actors that I like, because he actually comes across as a real person, I'm not from America (im British) so I can only go by what others tell me, from what ive gathered from what im told, if I had to guess the sport is 4th/5th with Hockey right now, but more Americans seem to be coming around to our football, bear in mind Americans only started pushing football a bit in the 90's, its been a joy to watch it grow over there, as long as you're not playing England, I'm rooting for you guys (come on im English 😂)

The push to popularize soccer in the US started long before that. George Best, Pele, Franz Beckenbauer and many more former world stars all tried to help the effort along back in the 1970s. I can tell you the three biggest hurdles to popularizing the sport in the US - 1. The diving (Simulation in the rules). I'm aware the rest of the world look at the issue and just see "tactical dives" trying to get a penalty called. American (men) see it differently. We see a sissy sprawled out on the field crying like a B.... It's not viewed as a manly sport. 2. The way it has traditionally been televised in the US. The camera operators zoom in way too close. Nobody can even see the movement off the ball and what goes into creating great offensive pressure. 3. Not enough scoring. As a lifelong soccer player and fan...I know, it sounds unreasonable. This one could fade away if the other two issues were addressed, but as of now, it is a persistent complaint.

@MrVvulf they've been trying to for years but the NASL went bust and the idea for MLS was attached to the USA 94 bid and you guys have really come a long way since
@MrVvulf8 ай бұрын
@@mrmr5580 The NASL was pretty much doomed from the start. The owners had the teams (mostly) playing in the same huge stadiums where American football was played. There was no way with the level of support soccer had at the time to pay those overhead costs. As you say, the sport continues to grow, and hopefully that will continue. Certainly the influx of soccer lovers coming in to the country through our southern border will eventually have a positive impact on soccer's popularity. Having Messi play for a few years helps too. He's the biggest star since Pele played here.
@mrmr55808 ай бұрын
@MrVvulf I agree, this time they seem to have their stuff in order, no its not a top 10 league worldwide right now but it's getting closer all the time, it's not that far away now, I say 90's because the sport was very niche back then from what ive been told

Just randomly came across this and loved it I hear the take on knowing the notes but not having the music/poetry yet... n well heres my long take hope it helps: In football its approach isnt tactical first in order to love the game.... football is its history by knowing the history of football one gets to understand why it matters so much to the fans... the silence in between the lines... its not just a sport the tales of Puskas and Hungary...... the reasons behind east n west germany in the final and its roll in finally bridging the gap...... just as he stated the fans began as the local baker cobbler smith attending the game for the town he loves.... football became a way to express a joy in pain a cocktail on the beach.... the stories of heroes like Pele and controversial heroes Maradona the villains of the game the geniuses of the game the environments atmospheres cold nights at stoke stories behind players seeing them as normal human beings thriving day by day to be great some for fame some for fortune some for the love of the game..... from the young boy from Rosario to The Night at the Bernabeau..... getting all these (from KZbin btw) You get the answer to the silence... you'll fall in love with the beautiful game and see the art to it.... After that then the tactics formation players in form opponents motivation and talent later matter That above is the silence the reason a kid stuck a poster of a role model to a wall and said one day im gonna be like him and strap on the boots Where i come from football is like religion a young man and a granny... a lawyer and priest could sit in a room watch a football match.. coz for that moment that zone its all about the beautiful game Hope this helps 🔥🔥

He's right - and it is quite interesting - that even though the numbers aren't quite there yet, it feels like we're #3 now. I think that has a lot to do with fan culture and passion for the sport. I know people that go to MLB games all the time. For much of the game, they're just chatting and only seem to be going to have something to do. Even when I watch games with them on TV, they don't really get fired up like people who are in love with the sport. I'm not saying there are no people with passion like that for baseball, but that kind of passion is so common in soccer/football that that the sport and the culture can't be separated. The intensity of this sport has always been palpable for those of us who live and breath the game, but in the US, it used to feel like we were anomalies in the world of sports. So quickly in the last few years, it's gone from that feeling to one where you're like, "yeah, now everyone knows who we are and what we're all about." I love it.

Right, no one here really cares about baseball except for the diehard fans. The game is fun to attend as an outing but not the game really. Baseball on TV is boring af. Well MLB is actually the second sport now and NBA is third. Look at the revenues and total attendance. Its grown by 20+ percent in the last 3 years. @@IMP3TIGOI mean you can say the same thing about soccer. No one in USA cares except the diehards, except there’s way more diehard baseball fans in USA than soccer.
@kingrazo108 ай бұрын
Baseball fans have a ton of passion. You can’t expect them to be fully invested in every game, after all it’s a very affordable sport to attend, that’s going to bring casual fans and people who just want to enjoy the game. Baseball has a lot of passionate fans and also does a good job at bringing in casual audiences to the ballpark. I think with MLS, people in America don’t care enough to actually go to the games casually. You go because you really support the team and are a fan, for example I dont follow mls, most people I know don’t follow mls and I don’t know many people who have gone to mls games casually like they do for other sports here. Out of the few that I’ve seen attend mls games, they are true fans of the team/sport. Which is something that I think only hockey can relate with. Football, basketball, baseball are all sports in the USA that are consumed by casual fans as well as diehards. MLS and NHL seem to have less of that casual crowd though. However, I follow European soccer. Idk if mls will ever grow to #3 just because the level of play is not comparable to Europe.

Hearing Americans talk about football is always so innocent. Imagine what would happen if a player on the top of his level would go over there during his career. All they get is the best of the last-last generation and they are still so happy to see someone like Messi play.

Dear Americans, you must understand that: soccer is a passion, a feeling, it is much more than a sport; that is felt from the playing field to the stands and the fans... Maybe that is the "poetry" that good old Matt is referring to... Greetings from Argentina

I'm a Sounder. I'm not jealous of any team in the league, except maybe Austin FC, because of this man. Love him. Messi who? Suarez should be getting so much more attention than he's getting.

So, looks like I just found the MLS team to support. Since Palmeiras is known as "Verdão" to us, I think it's only fitting.
