*Update* spent all day farting with the O2 sensors (upstream). Got Denso replacements & of course the pig tails were not long enough & different connectors of course (long tube problems) spliced the old connectors to the new and threw them in. Fired right up & idled fine for 30 minutes. Still need to get it off Jack's & do a proper test drive with live data. So far so good. Also, there was no water intrusion in the intake & the ECU PCM under the battery was dry. All of the suggestions were/are much appreciated. Update video coming tomorrow.

Mercy. You are spot on about the hydralock susceptibility, though. I have done that .... or had it done to me. Flash flood thunderstorm on a 3 lane interstate ... low level on the right ... traffic is "zippering" on the left shoulder. I was watching very carefully, took my turn behind a Suburban ... but then bubba (and if I weren't in the C5Z, it could have been me) took his lifted truck through the right shoulder and I got "storm surged." Couldn't shutoff quick enough. Maybe one day I'll have another, but the Vettes are not bad weather drivers at all. Easy to hydroplane with the wide tires too. Hope ya got fixed.

I live in Surf City in NC. I have the same problems with the rain and the tides and standing water. I drive a 2012 Grand Sport LT 4 ( also Valocity Yellow, btw) as my daily driver. There is always on spot after it rains that holds water about 57 inches deep. I always have to drive through it to get home. The same thing happens to mine. Go through the water, and then it sounds and runs like Chevette, haha. Scanner tells me mi's fire. So the last 2 times it happened, I opened the hood and could not see anything. Bu could hear something off coming from cylinder 6 or 8. I shut the lights off, and there it was. Water has sprayed up into cylinder 8s spark plug well, and it was arching like one of those globes you get from Spencer's gifts. Sprayed some compressed air in there to get the water out and let it dry overnight. The next day was like nothing ever happened. I'm not saying that's what's going on, but that's what keeps happening with mine. I feel your pain and hope you get it fixed soon and cheaply. Lol. God luck.

Hey Mark, I have had this happen here in HR also. Pull your air filter and make sure it is dry, check your engine dipstick for water in the oil, if it tucked it in through the intake you should change the oil. There is a possibility you have foul a spark plug or two also. To be on the safe side stop running it until you check everything! My two cents!

The other thought is to check the grounds. Maybe you got water in the connectors.

The time between the puddle and the start of the problem may suggest steam (which can infiltrate anywhere) as the culprit, for what that’s worth. Definitely not hydrolock (don’t ask me how I know). Please keep us posted.

Its happened to me before as well. If you have a cold air intake that takes air from the bottom, chanes are the MAF took some water on. Dry off your Mass Air sensor, or replace it. If you can look at live data, chk your MAF readings. I mean anything can happen, o2's could have took water through a connector, or maybe your PCM was damaged. Chk your MAF sensor, trust me. Be safe, Cheers.
@GIZZMOTORSPORTS
@GIZZMOTORSPORTS Ай бұрын
That’s my first thought too. Check MAF and all the ducting for water, before getting on it. Can still hydro lock it if there water in there. If that’s all good check compression and grab a bore scope.

Be careful with the cheap sensors. Or, at least be aware that they are very often bad out of the box, or go bad very quickly. Don't want to have the problems return, and start chasing a Red Herring. The Delco's are pricey (about $75 a pop), but worth it.

Thanks for sharing! Good to hear and that sounds like a good bit of stress. Hope it eases with results soon as you check sensors and electronics. I drive in the wet all the time with my C5Z, love it too much to always keep it garaged, though I have a great manual Accord too. Continental ECS02 hook great dry and are phenomenal in the rain. Don't think I'd ever chance water like that though unless I was going to lose my job over it. In any other car sure, but not these. Thanks for all the advice and videos thus far! I'm sure you'll be throwing her around again in no time

A couple of days ago, I locked my keys in my pickup, and had an urgent errand to run. I took my 01 ZO6 to run the errand, and it started raining. My 01, with 23K on it has never been driven in the rain, or wet. I felt bad for my car! Glad I didn't get into anything deep! Yours actually sounded almost like it fixed itself, interested to see if the 02 sensors fixes it. Good luck!

Hey brother so sorry to hear this happened to you! Looks like your handling it pretty well, and I'm sure you'll get it straight pretty quick. I suggest opening the hood, maybe remove the cover to the computer behind the right front wheel, and anything else you can think of to open up. Then place a dehumidifier close to the front of the car and place some plastic sheeting over the car and dehumidifier. Leave a little room for the dehumidifier to breathe and let it run for several hours. That should help pull any moisture out of those things we don't want moisture in. My previous experience at dealerships taught me a lot. I can't tell you how many cars I've seen come back on the hook after the detail guys cleaned the engine lol! Water always finds a way in and engine heat helps it turn to steam making it even worse. Trust me, dehumidifiers are your friends! Soaking wet carpets and seats would be dry by morning after a freshly scrubbed (or windows/top left down in the rain) interior by shutting the doors and windows, putting a dehumidifier in the car and letting it run all night! I'm thinking it'll work for you too with your under hood electronics. The plastic sheeting will concentrate the drying efforts more on your car rather than it trying to dry the entire garage, which should speed the process along for you. Hope this helps!🙂

Just a couple of thoughts brother. I'm a recently retired tech with about 40 years experiance. Your pcm no doubt made a pile of corrections during your drive. You might disconnect the battery, touch the cables together and restart it with the scanner hooked up. Your fuel trims should reset and you can watch what happens. I also had a Ford truck that had blown head gaskets and my guys replaced them. I ook the truck for a drive in town for a few miles and then hit the freeway. The truck started running poorly and set the ck eng light. I had to tow it back to the shop. It turned out that when I punched the gas getting on the freeway all 4 cats blew apart apparently from all the moisture still in the exhaust. That took me a little while to find out. I actually found it using a vacuum gauge and I saw I had poor vacuum from the cats having collapsed . It actually made a huge difference just loosening the headpipes.

The exact same thing happened to me with my 04' Z06, I had to change my driver side upstream O2 sensor and that solved it but smart move to just change them all for the price. I suggest you take out your air filter and let it dry out as well as it will be saturated with water (if it is paper just replace it). Good luck! P.S. please stop driving it until you get your new sensors.

Yeah, the first things that get wet when submerged are the air temperature sensor, secondary air injection pump and check valve, the ECM. And the TAC module. The last two are mounted on the frame approximately under and in front of the fender vent on the passenger side just behind the inner wheel well. Theres access panels. I had a similar problem once and as solid state as the ECM is the TAC module is a plastic incased circuit board with lots of space. Mine got completely filled with water, forcing limp mode and all kinds of problems. This is why you should never pressure wash or automatic car wash anywhere near this area underneath or near that fender vent. There is shielding but it's not absolutely water tight, it was only designed to resist mild splashing, not submerging, or forced water under pressure. I had to drain the module split the case open use contact cleaner and vacuum dry the biard and terminals on the connector. Then I put it back together and wrapped everything with the flex seal 1' wide tape to completely protect the ECM, TAC and all associated wiring and connectors before remounting. Its easier to deal with if you remove the passenger fender but can be done underneath from the access panels.

Just a thought, I once had an ignition coil get ruined by pressure washing the motor. It would only start manifesting itself when the engine warmed up. Maybe get it warm and check for arcing with the lights off/hood open, it will be easy to see if a wire/boot/coil is having an issue.

@@VetOnVettes For sure. Just something else to add to your arsenal in case you need it! Side question: do you have any weatherstripping water leaks in your car? (particularly in the footwell areas)
@NY-DIYMECH
@NY-DIYMECH Ай бұрын
@@greenscobie86 Check your windshield cowl drain ducts, also know as utters. They could be clogged. When that happens water fills up amd starts to leak into the interior. Also, chk along the plastic trim around the doors. The plastic trim known as rain channels, the adhesive weakens and starts to leak from there as well. Best way to see that is to feel the head linner up above your head. If it's wet there it's those rain channels or trim. It leaks down and settles in the foot well. Hope it helps, Cheers.

I'm very familiar with the built in DIC code scanner. I have my live scanner in my glove box and it's just easier when you are trying to troubleshoot. Plus the DIC does not give live data such as fuel trims and O2 voltage etc (which is what I really needed to see). Good looking out though.
