Plant your corn in squares instead of a few long rows to help with pollination, and ya'll could use some raked up goat poo(best stuff is in the old piled up areas where they gather together) to put in all your watermelon mounds and other stuff likes it too. Free fertilizer!🌱🌱🌱

The American Indians used to triple plant the corn. One corn seed. Then, plant either peas or beans. You then plant squash at the base of your corn. The peas or beans grow up the corn. No trellis needed.

Everything in a garden is trial and error when your first starting out. believe me I made tons of mistakes when I first started gardening. I can't grow corn to save my life so I pick and choose what I am good at and buy things I can't grow. Good luck with it this year. can't wait to watch it grow and what is working for you all.

Brandon, I am with you no snake left alive. Pappy always had a garden. Rhubarb, strawberries, corn, greenbeans, sugar snap peas, watermelon, cucumber, lettuce, radishes, cantaloupe, cauliflower, garlic, onions, he had everything that could be ate. He would set bags of veggies on his porch for those who could use it. No charge it was his way of being neighbors and blessing others with what GOD had blessed him!

When you run your rows for the corn open it up like a V. Put the seed at the bottom of the V and cover the seed with a little dirt and tap it down. When the corn starts to come up and it is tall enough start piling the dirt around the stalks of corn. Keep doing that so the roots will be deep in the row. You plant potatoes the same way, so you can keep hilling the plant up so the potatoes can grow in soft dirt. I hope I'm not over stepping, just sharing my way my mama taught me 60 yrs ago. Glad you saw the snake 👍good eye. Good job Stephanie, you are doing so good. Enjoyed watching the kids helping. Good evening. ❤️🫶❤️ NC 🇺🇸

When I was young, in the mountains of N. California, we learned from our church camp how to identify many different kinds of local snakes. We played with garter snakes around our house all the time. I wouldn't do that now but back then we had no fear and we knew which ones were dangerous and to leave alone.

I bought a greenhouse in autumn and have tomato plants growing nicely, I also planted cabbage, lettuce, pak Choi, peas and now waiting for the warmer weather (Scotland) to try cucumber. Stephanie, plant bout 4 or 5 zucchini plants. You can fry zucchini in bacon grease. Dip them in a batter and fry in the bacon grease. I also, cut up chicken breast and fry the chicken in Italian dressing with sliced zucchini and red peppers. Drain it. Boil linguine, drain and place in a bowl. Add chicken, red peppers and zucchini. Drop more Italian dressing on it and mix until it taste right for your taste buds. Sprinkle with Parmesan Cheese, mix and then add more cheese. It is really good for a summer meal.

You should put 4 rows of corn 🌽 not only having the corn deeper more rows help from the wind from blowing them over. What i do with the steaks that holds down the weed fabric I paint them Red so you can see them next year then you go to pull them out of the ground so you don't get them in your tires it helps so much when they are painted Red

"Tomato cage" Fear of snakes is a learned emotion, but can be very real. Both my parents were scared of snakes, but i took the time to face that learned fear and conquered it. I go to pet stores and learn about the difference between pets and wilderness snakes. Farms need snakes or your place will be ran over by rodents. Melons get planted on mounds. Use the manure to help your plants grow. God bless

I think we had 4 plants which kept a 4 member family full of delicious grape tomatoes all season. The girls would go pick whenever they wanted one. We would bring in a good size serving bowl several times a week and used them for salads, tacos, roasting and vegetable platters.

Brandon, just little tidbit, about planting your corn. I know the background cover helps with weed control but the way I keep my corn from falling over when it gets upbout 6 inches I hoe it and pull more dirt around it and where time I hoe it I pull a little more dirt up around it. Now some time with high winds and rain it will still fall over a little but when the sun comes out it will stand back up most of the time.
