Perhaps I didn't quite listen the moment you said it but Haruna is an mpv frontend, so all options should be compatible and should have the same performance

I'm pretty sure he didn't, but now that I've looked it up I'm surprised to find there's a libmpv, so one wouldn't actually need to wrap the program directly. Odd thing is, I thought that mpv just used ffmpeg as its backend, so I'll have to look into how it actually works now.

i use vlc for everything streaming videos, movies, music on both linux and windows. it's simple to use one thing for everything.i am one of that maniacs who like to keep the installed package number as low as possible.

Vlc is more bloated than mpv imo, i like that is very easy to extend mpv with luascripts. All features you named has mpv too.

@@darukutsu true but vlc is famous for opening damaged video files, which i have a lot, from the cd/dvd days. if vlc can't open a video file, it's probably beyond redeemable.

Haruna seems like a neat little media player. I'll definitely have to check it out! I've heard a bit about MPV, but for some reason, I had trouble really embracing it, so I just defaulted to VLC. From what I understand, MPV can be incredible when paired with the right scripts, so I really *want* to like it. Having said that, I'd be interested to see a video highlighting MPV's advantages over other media players. Great video, as always!

I think the reason most prefer VLC over MPV is because they dislike the terminal. You could wrap it, of course, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone already has, but I personally spend more time in the terminal than out, so I just use it directly.

SMPlayer is the GOAT imo. Also The Linux Cast i hear you mentioning bash scrpts a lot, do you have a yt video, github repo etc with your script or is there a website that has different useful bash scripts? I recently made a script myself which updates my os and apps and it has saved me quite some time, so i began liking scrips a lot more.

All of my scripts are on my gitlab, link in the description. They're noob, though, just be forewarned.

0:22 Linux chaaa... cast 😆 Considering how crazy good mpv is with all the lua plugins, I almost feel bad for people that develop other players. Which of course is silly not everybody likes to write config files and vim like key bindings for every software.

New lol been using Haruna since mmmmmm late 2020 Haruna is the bomb swipe your mouse over to the top right and the folder where all your media is slides out in a nice hamburger style menu. Way to many options to list fits right in with all the KDE theming as well

See I looked that up, and according to the dependencies on arch, it doesn't pull any QT dependencies. It pulls GTK.

Haruna is okay but SMPlayer is still the best out of a poor quality lot Linux offers.

The best video player I have found is SMPlayer...and it uses mpv, but adds features that I like. Much better interface than stock mpv.

I really appreciate this one. I like Qt based apps since I use the Qt framework myself. What I find funny though is Qt really should be pronounced as CUTE, and not Q T. But, then again, I absolutely refuse to pronounce Gnome as GA NOME. :)

Yet not another notification. At the mid to lower part of my feed... Even tho I watch nearly every video to completion. Oh well, not like it's an old or missed video. Just figured their notifications would work. Even when I pay for premium.

I am definitely not going to install all QT requirements for a player. I would rather use ffmpeg
