This song means so much to our Family. You see my husband & I buried our son after he was born He lived a brief 5 hours. We sang this song at his funeral. In 2009 I lost my husband of 32 years of marriage in a farming accident. We sang this song at his funeral. He was 52. 3 months after my husband passed I lost one of my 4 girls in a car accident. We sang this song at her funeral. She was 23. It might not be ok & this might be bad BUT IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL...........

This song has been continue to use at my Church. This is one of songs that my Dad loves to listen to. He was in Air Force for 14 years then became businessman of Dandy Cleaners & Laundry in Charlotte, NC for many years and passed the business over to my brother, Larry. My Dad passed away this past June 25, 2018 due to MSRA. He struggled for 5 weeks in the hospital then went home to be with Jesus Christ. We used this song, "It is Well With My Soul" at his awakening service. I miss my Daddy so much and do looking forward the day we will meet again. Glory to God... Amen...

last July 5, I was assigned to lead the congregation for praise and worship. As a worship leader I have to choose songs and this is what God put in my heart. Before the church service I searched for the story behind this beautiful song and I wept a lot to God when I heard this beautiful testimony. I knew about the daughters and him writing the hymn over where they thought the ship sank - I didn't know about his son dying and his property being burned down - Oh my! The facts are a bit mixed up in the story's cronologie. The 4 years old son lost to scarlet fever, was actually born one year AFTER the loss of their 4 daughters - in 1873. Spafford and his wife also had 2 daughters born in their later years.

Great lyrics but the truth is that it was not well with his soul. Horacio Spafford started strong as a presbyterian but did not finish well. He denied Hell, and he had a very unbiblical view of the local church. He called it Babylon. He was an early Harold Camping. Started a cult basically to separate from evangelicalism. That’s the saddest thing to me. How can someone write such amazing lyrics and then depart like he did.
