On UTSA, something that seems to keep getting overlooked over the course of this news is their academic side. Just a few weeks ago, The UT System announced that they were moving ahead with consolidating UTSA and UT Health San Antonio. This move basically overnight makes UTSA one of the top research institutions in the whole country and with no exaggeration I can safely say that in about half decade it sets them up to be spoken in the same breath as many Big 10 and ACC schools. Once it becomes official in 2025, they’d be the biggest school in the PAC 12 at over 40k students, have the biggest endowment at $1.1 Billion (unless Tulane joins as well of course), have the 3rd biggest research budget at almost $500 million (much of which will be focused on the holy grail of medical research), and one of the largest operating budgets in the conference at north of $2 billion. They will significantly raise the academic profile of the conference.

Bottom line is adding Texas State and UTSA is not a sexy move for the PAC 12 but they bring great markets, great rivalry, good alumni base and enrollment. Clearly what needs to happen is both schools being in Texas need to invest a lot more into their programs than they have before to be impactful. Having the Austin and San Antonio market is why the pac 12 wants them.

Texas state has a good coach right now, but not a history like UTSA has had. Even though it short they have had solid fan support and it's in San Antonio

during my phase of remaking conferences in 2023 I put them in the pac 12, esp since they are so close to the west coast and being the only Texas school in the league it would do wonders for their program/revenue and fan base. So I think it would be awesome!

It makes sense once you add Memphis and Tulane. In my opinion this conference will be better than the acc and the big12. The big12 and the acc is a conference of rejects. And the sec and big10 is full teams that mediocre and only gets respect because of the conference that are in. This next decade will prove that these conferences aren’t that great. Let each conference get two teams in and then we can say who is the best. But college football is still trying to monopolize the game.

You’re kidding right? The AAC,MW, SB, and the MAC conference have lots of mediocre teams. They would get pasted in the SEC.

No. Not happening. How does either UTSA or Texas State help the PAC get to Power Conference status?

They’re not going to get back to power conference, PAC is more focused on the best of the G5 league whoever wins this league will more than likely get the G5 invitation to the playoffs, but they 100% not going to be a power 5

@@thatrealawkwardguy I’ve been a PAC loyalist for over 50 years. There’s no way either WAZZU or The Beavs, will ever demote ourselves to G5 status. It’s only Power Conference status and nothing else. Power Conference status is all we have ever known. Power Conference is encoded in our PAC loyalist DNA. We’re not about to allow the PAC to become the Cupcake Conference of Champions.

The Pac is gonna be the defacto 4th Power anyway cause it's only gonna be 4 conferences left once all the dust settles. UTSA and possibly SMU are net positive additions. Idk about Texas St....

I keep hearing this Lane Kiffin from Ole Miss to Florida thing being repeated over and over. This guy was like competitively he'd pick Florida or Ole Miss? Florida has great talent. But that program needs a full rebuild. He has Ole Miss in the Top Ten. They will compete for the Playoffs and SEC Title. I'm not even an Ole Miss fan, but him leaving there for bum ass Florida makes ZERO sense.
