If you watched Cartoon Network from 1997 to 2004, chances are you’d have some fond memories of Johnny Bravo. The snappy humour, the clever references, the charming art and animation. It definitely deserved to be as popular as it was. However, as the years have worn on, the behaviour of the protagonist has become less accepted by society. I’m not dumb, I know part of the point of the show was to poke a hole in Johnny’s masculine aura, and let countless women rise above him, but there’s a reason you don’t see this on HBO Max along with most of the other early Cartoon Network Originals. Still, it’s commendable that a show like this existed in the 90s. I just wish it stayed more consistent in tone and message.

I remember watching this entire show, but one thing always stuck out to me while researching: turns out a bunch of girls actually wanted this show to air and rallied around it.

Bravo Dooby Doo is probably my favorite JB episode ever... Johnny + Velma = Gold "My Glasses, my glasses... I can't see without my glasses!" "My Glasses, my glasses... I can't be seen without my glasses!" "Jinkies!" "Jinkies???" And of course Making Fred want to split up the gang so he and Daphne can go make mystery together cannon.

Johnny Bravo is a staple of alot of people's childhoods and he's just the loveable goof and shows us how NOT to treat women. It'd be hard to imagine a world without hearing " HEH HAH HOO! "

Like a lot of comedies from this time (or even the 70's for the matter) the problem doesn't lie in its material being dated, it's people from the present viewing it in a modern lense, therefore missing the purpose and satire of the show they're judging.

I guess it’s like Beavis and Butthead. It’s a satire of the audience it attracts, but it’s not for everyone.

I actually still love this show & it actually blew my mind when I found out Seth MacFarlane was involved because I also grew up loving his works! I'm also 90% sure Jennifer Hale (Commander Shepard) was in this as a military chick.

This was a great overview of the show. I rewatched the full show 10 years ago and it brings me much joy to see others do the same & appreciate the show for what it is. One side note though: Seth MacFarlane only wrote episodes for Season 1 of Johnny Bravo. After it's first season, a completely new crew took over the show until Season 4. Around the time Season 4 began production, Van Partible somehow got back to working on the show again with some of the former team, but by that point it was kind of too late. Even though the show was beginning to retain it's Season 1 humor & art style with it's last season, the damage of Seasons 2 & 3 was already done and the show would inevitably end up being cancelled after that season. Which is a shame, since even though Season 4 was hit-or-miss, the times it did hit was truly remarkable. Episodes like that Valentines Day episode or the Time of my Life, or heck, even Run Johnny Run were great examples of the passion missing from Johnny Bravo since it's first season. The people who wrote Seasons 2 and 3 made Johnny more like a Homer Simpson-type character, which degraded his character in a way that made him far too stupid or selfish compared to his Season 1 antics. Heck, these writers even went as far as to steal the Isosceles Triangle joke from The Simpsons in the episode "IQ Johnny", replacing the words "the square root of" with hypotenuse . And that ain't the only joke they stole, either if memory serves correct. Either that or they used that joke more than once. The point is, I really do wish Johnny Bravo could have went on for another season or two before getting canned so early in it's prime, since the creator was back to steer the wheel during Season 4 and everything. It could have seen new success from a new audience or perhaps maybe even it's initial audience. I appreciate Van Partible's change in art direction during Season 4, but not necessarily his change in writing. It felt like a homage to people who loved Season 1 the best like myself.

But the creators of Johnny Bravo literally said he always got the ladies off screen, its just not entertaining to see him win so we never see it happen.

I remember preferring the second and third season. Mainly because I found it funnier. I’m guessing the retro references that were rub by the original creator just flew over my head as a kid.

I didn't watch Johnny Bravo, but that's because it was constantly being advertised on Cartoon Network in 2000 and being told to watch it made me not want to watch it.

I like Johnny Bravo (I also like Larry & Steve), but both his Seasons 2 & 3 run left a lot to be desired. Because when poor Van Partible was fired in the WB-Turner merge in the 90's as director of his own cartoon, Kirk Tingblad stepped in and his infinite wisdom thought it'd be a "good" idea to have Bravo be animated by the very inferior (especially when compared to Rough Draft, Sunwoo and Saerom) Koko Enterprise. Why didn't Kirk hire Digital EMation Inc instead? Worked for the other CN originals: Time Squad and both Grim & Evil. I believe Digital EMation Inc would've worked much better than Koko Enterprise for Johnny Bravo. Koko is Toon City and Snipple levels of lousy. Just saying.
