It's 2041, Earth Is Sinking Except 1 Country: JAPAN

In the year 2011 the greatest tectonic disaster in the history of mankind occurs. As a result of catastrophic earthquakes, massive volcanic eruptions, and huge tsunamis, North and South America, Eurasia, Africa and Australia have sunken underwater while the Japanese islands remain untouched, thanks to the Chinese land which has sunk and gone underneath them.
Japan suddenly discovers that it is the destination for all the world's surviving refugees. Consequently, they are all forced to make uncomfortable adjustments in order to share the world's last habitable landmass. However, they finally discover that the Japanese islands will eventually sink as well since the Chinese land supporting them is moving rapidly towards the Pacific Ocean. At this time, the leaders of various countries, including North Korea, surrounded in the darkness with a small candlelight and, finally, received a short-term peace shortly before Japan sank

Due to my geographical knowledge I would imagine that Japan would be one of the first Islands to sink off the face of the planet. I noticed a lot of people commenting on how strange it is in this movie that Japan sinks only after other countries. This movie is actually a parody of the 2007 Japan Sinks movie which also contains social commentary on race and the idea of a dying nation, but flips on the idea of Japan sinking. The movie is also based on a 1973 novel that also parodies the original Japan sinks novel, hence the absurdity of the story.

Theres a book similar to this called Xisle, its 2 years since most of the world has been flooded and pockets of human towns exist ontop of buildings, skyscrapers, whatever was up high before the flood basically.. such as high peak hills/mountains. So they trade items off for canned food, because it's easy for some divers to reach the depths to gather supplies and what is still around after a complete catastrophe.. like every apolcaypse movie it's always the can. Because that's what survived after the floods.. canned food lol. One of the pages talks about how cornflakes is more valuable than 2 live rabbits 😂 but yeh totally sad story because you are constantly reading sad and depressing moments through every chapter. You might want to read Flood by Steven Baxter. Due to seabed fragmentation a deep subterranean reservoirs of Water are opened up which starts seas to rise over several decades. Eventually even Everest is covered and what is left of humanity survives on rafts

@@cedarcoombs8111 I mean, if a entire continent went entirely underwater all of a sudden, those factors would not be a problem as most of the world would unite to get the hell out of earth until everything is concluded safe again. Plus human already have sent foot on the moon, and NASA is already building a rocket to get the first humans on Mars. Finally humans have nowhere to go, so the only option would be space as survival in the ocean would be too complicated as no ocean city as ever been built before. Ships may hold for some months but for no more than a couple of years, and even then that is a big stretch. Really the only long term solution would be space, and so all resources of the world would be put into it.

@@cesardepena7498 the problems still with that is that it is too big of a jump. Yes, they and planning on sending people back to the moon and to Mars and they are planning on colonizing Mars, they would have to make the colonies be able to survive on its own without any help from earth (they likely couldn't get help because the continents are sinking and it takes months for a spaceship to reach mars) Like they do want them to be able to support themselves, but they will rely on Earth quite a bit at the start. Also, I think you under estimate ships. There was a navy ship that was deployed for almost a year and if I remember correctly, the only problem they had was that the crew members were obviously bored and stuff but the ship itself didn't have any problems I think. Also, if they just stay on Earth, it solves one they would need to deal with in a Mars or moon base, Oxygen.

@@cedarcoombs8111 no I'm not underestimating ships, ships won't survive the ocean if all of a sudden continents just sank, this means rapid and unpredictable tectonic plate movement, and volcanic activity causing for unpredictable events out there, so many new variables to deal with, and with all that water and no land, super storms are more likely to form, and if all continents sank, Japan would also most likely sink as well. Again you can say it's a big jump, but not that big if the world unites, the problem is you are comparing NASA, a space organazation exclusively to the U.S, to a world wide organazation with all the different organizations uniting and creating more for non stop research. They may proba ly find a way to use nuclear reactors to launch a rocket into space, and from then on it is advancement. I think you underestimate the lengths humans will go to get to safety, or atleast the sensible ones, sure it will take years, but continets, even at rapid sinking, take many more years to sink. And also you are forgetting one problem with ships, how will they get enough food to feed all the people with the nutrients necessary to survive? Even the gigantics won't have enough space for even a small percentage of of japan, and that is filling each ship to the brin and having no space for food.

None of that changes the fact that Japan is far more likely to sink. It'd be like if there was a movie about how America would be the last country destroyed in a nuclear war, when in reality, it'd probably be the first one. Yeah, the movie is made in Japan. But that doesn't change the facts.

Not necessarily u could make it in the US and have Japan as the last country that sinks but the difference is the us would not ignore the existence of the US navy or the military personnel in east Asia and treat them as non entities. It does make for a entertaining comedy and it’s what u expect based on the movie’s budget and appeal though. Once the situation is such that large numbers of refugees are moving u can bet most nations would have had their navies moving up and about patrolling or escorting ships thus some sections of Russia’s and China’s Pacific fleet would remain at play and due to the monocentrism of the nation it would be incapable to integrate large foreign populations and u are more likely to see some islands granted as a concession to other nations and Japan government providing incentives for Japanese people to leave those areas. The movie does seems to low key acknowledge that most japanese people are uncomfortable over extended non personal interactions with non japanese while visualizing extreme examples to give credence to that line of though yet at the same time acknowledging the curiosity of wanting to see foreigners. Again though It’s a goofball movie with limited budget so although there’s many ideas your everyday toshi will identify with there quite a bit added to make sense of the scenario in the movie.

The premise of the movie was japan is the last place to sink and the rest of the movie works off that idea.

Imagine if this movie is made in Singapore. All the world's continents sink under the ocean, leaving Singapore as the last remaining landmass ever. And to top it all off, there is little land for growing food so millions starve. And then the little red dot finally sinks into the ocean after an earthquake hits Singapore.
