I don't know how to feel about another case of portraying a person with schizophrenia as a "crazy violent person who will kill everyone around because VOICES" when in fact (according to National Institutes of Health) "Most patients with schizophrenia will never be violent. For ever schizophrenic patient who commits a homicide, 100 will die by suicide." Lowkey wished Gab's first instinct was right and it was Mike all along, it made so much sense to me and it was more compelling than "yeah the schizophrenic guy skipped a dose and shot up his workplace"

Between Schizophrenia, DID, and Bipolar it's been such an over used trope since the 90s, paints such a negative picture for those experiencing any symptoms. Mostly when it becomes "the person" vs "a part of the person" the mental health doesn't define the person aside from possible processed information, but even then everyone is different and background/financial /social lives affect more than anything else. These stereotypes have negative affects on those who don't actively engage with such individuals and has a lot of presumptions placed on them. TLDR: don't define a personality by mental health there's more to people than one aspect.

I think the pig insulin is not necessarily only an insult (though it is still mean and suggestive). Back in the day diabetics used pig's insulin, as pigs' prancreas are the closest to humans. I think back in 1998 they still used it and it was probably cheaper than the insulin we use today. Though I did not fact-check myself, so please take it with a grain of salt, but I know the first insulin was from a pig's pancreas.
@snorpenbass4196

Not necessarily cheaper - the reason insulin is so expensive now is because the price has been artificially inflated (mainly in the US) which has caused severe problems worldwide. It's probably much cheaper to manufacture now, but capitalism gotta capitalism I guess.

in pharmacy they teach us that it’s for companies to pay off their research retroactively. 10-20 years of research isn’t free so if you can be the first to patent a drug or procedure, you get 10-15 years of a secured brand name to list your own price. unfortunately that gives way for big pharma to take place and they can do the LARGEST number possible but it’s overall just for pharmaceutical companies to earn back the money they spend for their research in clinical trials since if you as a patient sign up for them you can get reimbursed for liability, theres also the drug itself, the supplies, the staff, the place that is handling the trials (electricity, water, other utilities, etc) and much more! unfortunately, US is expensive but we have a full spectrum of care bc we have the access to the information. Now, for those who are less insured or uninsured, we have free clinics (i just finished a rotation at one in Ohio) and they are amazing for anyone: unemployed, between jobs, uninsured, insured but without a provider, or insured with too high of deductible costs. free clinics do not have the governing body telling us how short of visits. we could spend all day with a patient and care for them to their needs

As someone whos uncle developed Schizophrenia because of being a cop in the 70s, the ending to this really disapointed me. The second Nakamura was shown to be Schitzophrenic I got really worried but hoped the creators would have done their research. The biggest danger my uncle was to those around him was that he would spend all of his, and their, money on people who needed help. I may have been weirded out by him as a kid but I never felt afraid for my safety. It would have taken just 20 minutes of dedicated research, or even just one phone call to an expert to create a more realistic narrative that didn't rely on cheap jabs at the struggles of mental illness. 😔

From what I've seen theories for, Mike is still sort of responsible. Remember how Darren lost his pills from his car and yet they were on his desk? Could be possible that Mike took them and then placed them on his desk just before the interrogations just to mess with him. The dude did like his "jokes" and didn't like Darren. Still, would've been better if dirty cop did it. Also, there's a missing person poster in a cubicle or two referring to the guy from Painscreek. Nice universe this seems to be in.

This game is really compelling overall, however I am incredibly disappointed with the official narrative for this case. When I realized Nakamura had schizophrenia (clued in when reading the journal, confirmed with the pill bottle), I was so scared the devs were going to use the tired trope of the "person with schizophrenia goes on a killing rampage." Not only does it add to the stigma (and schizphrenia is one of the most harshly stigmatized and demonized of the mental illnesses), but it's just downright lazy storytelling. Not to mention, being off meds for a couple days wouldn't cause a downfall in mental state that severe - or, at least, it seems unrealistic that it would. The devs dropped the ball with this story and it didn't need to happen this way if only they'd done the bare minimum of research. It would've been so refreshing to have the schizophrenia be a red herring AND it would've offered an opportunity for players to check their biases when the person with schizophrenia ended up being innocent, especially if a player's first instinct was to blame the person with a mental health condition. It is such a shame that the devs lost the opportunity to have a positive social outcome with this case (e.g., checking biases, de-stigmatization, etc.). Mike had much more motive for hiding his drug dealing secret and that motive makes much more sense than whatever BS "motive" they gave to Nakamura.

I understand that it's the typical trope, but I was hoping it wasn't a case of schizophrenic goes "crazy" and shoots up the place. While people who suffer from schizophrenia have deductive reasoning issues and may have the "walking on eggshells" when off medicine, it just perpetuates the negative stigma. I was looking forward to Gab's idea of Mike being a cop who shot up the place because he was about to be sold out. Still a fun chapter though.

I am saying this as someone who deeply cares for a friend who's schizophrenic, has seen and held him when he was having a psychotic episodes with the voices being overwhelming, and am going to stay at his house and spend the night tomorrow: this type of trope is outright harmful, and makes people immediately treat my friend worse and say things to me about how they're worried about my safety when he's the kindest person I've ever met. He's extremely nonviolent and the only time he ever HAS wanted to end someone, it was himself, sadly. Thankfully, his meds work at least mostly, but even being off them like Nakamura apparently was for like a week or even a few days won't do anything that severe, he's had to be off them for over a week recently because his pharmacy/doctor sucked and wouldn't deal with the prescription properly. It did suck and he did have more thoughts and voices and hallucinations and was extremely anxious and stressed and scared, but he was NOT homicidal and didn't go on a rampage after 2 days ffs. I even listened to a schizophrenia simulation video thing a while back and just HEARING things for a few minutes made me want to literally scream and tell "everyone" to shut up, I can't IMAGINE living with that daily, constantly, every waking second of your life until you die. It's terrifying for them. On a positive note, love the game and Gab's interpretation of this case, it made sense to me much more than the actual ending.

This one really rubs me the wrong way. As a schizophrenic individual i can tell you voices (and psychosis in general, which comes in many different forms and packaged within many other disorders) doesnt make you violent. In fact, it's a known fact that people with psychosis (esp those w schizo-spec disorders) are more likely to be harmed than to harm others. Also, the "dripfeeding dosage" thing: they arent doing it so he wont OD. Most of the time, if you go obn a med thats, say, a controlled substance, you arent having trouble getting it bc they want y9ou to be safe. They give you a ton of trouble over it bc they assume you'll get addicted and the way addicts are demonized and dehumanized is already horrendous. You shouldn't be running out of a medication unless it's take as needed and they gave you a smaller supply that you end up needing. At that point you talk to your doctor to figure out if its safe for you to take it more often. This whole game just shows they know nothing about psychosis or schizophrenia and didnt care to learn. Also, headaches arent a usual symptom of sfchizophrenia that ive heard of. I would assume theyre stress headaches or migraines.

There was no reason in any of the information we were given for Mike to start shooting, nothing that really indicated he thought people knew about his drug stuff, and he hadn't met Phil before so Phil wouldn't have had any dirt he could have exposed. Spoiler . . . . . . . It doesn't make sense that Darren did it. He HAD his meds right there. Schizophrenia doesn't turn you violent on a dime, it also doesn't make any sense the guy went after someone for some cash. What DID make sense was how Harry didn't want to kill someone again, so despite Darren being the aggressor who had just killed two people - Harry aimed for the leg. He was in the right mind sober wise, but he also *wasn't* of sound mind in that he should have shot Darren, but he was traumatized after the kid he shot. Mike also didn't take any drugs himself, his N. 01 rule was not to test his own stash. But it would make sense if he stole Darren's meds - which he did - and maybe tried one which made him psychotic. But you know what DEFINITELY makes you psychotic?? Blood sugar. If his blood sugar tanked, he would have been extremely disoriented and could have very well gone into a panic. And, of course, the most tragic death here was Carl Tristan, he's about to FINALLY get out of a wrongful imprisonment, and on the day of the groundbreaking moment - he's stuck in a mass shooting for no good reason. Knows the only people standing up for him are now Dead next to him, and his heart gives out. He was still alive when Darren took his own life - he died after everyone and because they were all dead he died a slow and agonizing death when Darren was the one who had the emergency kit in his office, may have even been a defib kit that would have saved Carl. I'd also like to say, there was another person in the office. Sgt. Grady, who escorted Phillip Clemence into his interrogation. He could have 100% been an outside source and killed everyone. But he was also the only one alive nearby, so for whatever reason he didn't go in and help.

8:47 - FYI, the word "gyp" is an extremely rude derogatory term that comes from the slur "g*psy". It means to steal, often through deception or cheating, in a way that is often expected of Romani people by racists. Some people have no idea the word is so disrespectful, and others know and use it intentionally. Either way, when reading something with a word like that, it's best to err on the side of caution. Another similar term is "getting Jewed" or "Jewing", or "getting k*ked", which is the same premise but derogatory to Jews instead of Roma. My grandma would still say the N word if she thought she could get away with it. Idc whose relatives still say that word and it's derivatives, it's still not right and I think she should at least have the opportunity to choose how she navigated vocab like this

Thar part reading the note book about the evidence reminded me of a story. There was a case in Massachusetts where I live that had a lab tech messing around with false positives and playing around with evidence. She actually went to prison and thousands of convictions were overturned because of it... Crazy.

It sucks that you can solve who was the crazed murderer as soon as the game mentions one of the dudes is schizophrenic. It adds to the terrible stigma of schizophrenia and also from a purely 'mystery game' standpoint is brick-to-the-head obvious. I was really hoping it was a red herring because of how hard they were beating us over the head with it.

I don't understand why the glass was blown in to the interrogation room then. The bullet was the standard issue pistol in the wall in room #2, meaning someone shot into the room first starting the problem
@CorvidKnight666
@CorvidKnight666 5 ай бұрын
I looked again after the end, its a Revolver round imbedded in the wall behind the glass gab picks up, 49:57. the window is shot from 2 different sides. Once when Mike was shot from inside, 2nd when Baker shot from the outside.
@crawfishpi
@crawfishpi 5 ай бұрын
@@CorvidKnight666 Ah! I should have been more proactive and skimmed back, but I really thought it was a pistol round for some reason. Oh well, I'm sad the devs went with the "mental illness is bad" trope instead of the "dirty cops are bad" but they were really trying to humanize that aspect of the plot.
@CorvidKnight666
@CorvidKnight666 5 ай бұрын
@@crawfishpi yea, I did the same too, that's why I rewound it XD and it just has to do with fake out/ red herrings. It's easy to dismiss the easy answer when you had to jump through so many hoops to figure out the dirty cop, only for it to just be a side plot👌

Glad to see so many other people in the comments who were disappointed by the answer to this case. Even if Nakamura snapped and killed Mike, that doesn't mean he would kill the suspect and then TEN MINUTES LATER also kill Richard? (Also, what the heck was Richard doing for ten minutes with an active shooter in the other room?)

In the US we can test drugs in the field with field tests to prove its positive for X. The gun isnt an issue as its an heirloom and ita just normal. My only issue here in this country is we should be more like Iceland in regardless to gun laws and practices. You can ship guns in the US but they usually cant be put together when shipped or of the state has new laws you cant ship outside the state. Some bullets CAN make that much damage because it depends mostly on the size of the bullet or if it spreads out like shotguns do. Hitting drywall with a 9mm absolutely can crack up the wall. Insulin is only expensive here if you have no insurnace. Without insurance i think the avg price is 350$ for 1 bottle and there are many diabetics that need 2 bottles for 2 types of insulin. With insurance insulin can be covered 80-100%. Standard issue means what is the base weapon given to every cop basically. So if a glock is standard issue then thats what everyone gets and then you can get shotguns and other guns. Commentor is correct in a revolver not dropping shells, you have to swing the holder open and turn it to dump them out or pull them out one by one. Bolt action and semi auto to full auto release the shells after each use.

man i was rly hoping that it wasn't gonna be nakamura. how many times are we gonna demonise ppl with personality/mood disorders??? so disappointing. none of my schizophrenic and bipolar family members are/were violent in _any_ way, shape, or form. like someone else in the comments said, ppl with schizophrenia are much more likely to face violence themselves instead of perpetrating it. i much prefer gab's version of events. having mike be the murderer made much more sense and is so much more compelling than "ahh!!! the schizophrenic guy didn't take his meds!! he's crazy and flies into rages!! because he's schizophrenic he's gonna murder all his colleagues and any witnesses!!" so not only is it dehumanising and hurtful to ppl with mental illnesses, it's just plain _boring_ as a motive. having nakamura catch on that mike was a part of something suspicious during the interrogation and mike killing everyone to keep his secret is way more interesting. like mike could have tried to come up with a plan to _frame_ nakamura as the killer and him as the hero that tried to save everyone, because (like we all initially believed and discarded bc what) it would be obvious. he probably has some inkling that nakamura isn't mentally all that well. but harry shooting him threw a wrench in his plans. maybe there was something that convinced him that he would be outed as the killer, so he shot himself. like the way the bodies were positioned (or where they were in general) and the blood splatters from harry shooting him clearly showing that nakamura was unable to orchestrate all that carnage. COME ON!!! IS THAT NOT A WAY BETTER STORYLINE??? tldr schizophrenic committing violence is hurtful and boring and such an old trope. do better, it's 2024.

took me until watching this video to realize harry's gift to his son was swords and not a gun lol on a more serious note i was super disappointed by the conclusion of this case, the moment i saw the schizophrenia pills i was hoping they weren't gonna go the "mentally ill guy goes nuts" route. but to my disappointment they did. it's sad really because all the other stories they told in this game were great, but this case left a bad taste in my mouth.

As much as I don't like the Nakamura ending, Mike being the murderer made no sense. Why would he kill Philip if he was there to establish a good relationship with the guy? So that's why I logically excluded Mike and only Darren was left.

8:43 "gyp" is a racist slur against Roma used as a stand-in for cheating someone. This guy is disgusting all the way around. I really wish people would stop using mental illness as a shorthand for dangerous. Most murders are committed by regular people getting carried away or just choosing to hurt others. The vast majority of people with mental illness are only a danger to themselves and stigmatizing them like this doesn't help.

If u ignore the mental illness part He was at the end of his rope with Mike. With his apparent anger likely, he would have some sort of physical conflict between them at some point. Now add back the psychological issue and been out of medicine to help with the irrational behavior the games actual report makes complete sense to me over the theory it being Mike as the dirty cop. Love watching these games tho! Excited to see the next case.
