Been to Edinburgh over the weekend and it felt way more secure than Dublin. There was a decent police presence, every bar had a bouncer outside it and there’s little to no visible Drug dealings happening outside the closes. Another thing Edinburgh has over Dublin is public transport, with a tram service going from Newhaven to Edinburgh Airport, which is something I can’t say about the Luas. The rail network can also bring you to Newcastle or Glasgow in 45 minutes. So it’s safe to say, I’ll probably study there when that time comes.

The Gardai have withdrawn from the streets and the medium size towns and villages just like the RIC had to do in 1920s because they were not able to enforce the law. Simple as that. No enforcement of law or consequences for feral youths, with the idea being mooted of raising the age of "child offenders to 25 or 26. Yep.. Dublin is probably a kip but other towns are also following suit. Too many little childers. No facilities. So they have to resort to mugging for entertainment One instance of attitude... A lady reported what she felt was drug dealing from a house next door to her and she was told to ignore it lest she brought attention to herself and consequences. Another lady reported unusual van and vehicle activity at night time in an adjacent, country warehouse and a Sargeant told her that he had not got any report, but to be rested assured that if there was illegal activity " that someone in The Force would be aware of what's going on". How about that?

Dublin is unrecognisable from my hay day in the 90's. On the plus side we have tidied up the quays somewhat and have a Luas but I could go on with the negatives. The north inner city is destroyed, always had its issues but now has gangs of all creeds hanging around dumping litter beside street bins, drinking and drug dealing, n9body seems to have a job, claiming the state. Look at what the Government and Council policy has done to Moore street, once the essence of nort inner city. The south inner city has had drug and crime problems too for generations and also has this diversity to deal with but not quiet as bad.
