I was walking around my kitchen today and suddenly this song popped into my head - just the beginning “it’s about time, it’s about space“ and I couldn’t remember where it came from so I googled it. Now it’s all coming back to me - this show that was on when I was nine years old. It’s amazing how a song can get in your head like that and then pop up 50 years later

Watching Green Acres is a swan dive into surrealism, where the characters hear the piccolo during Oliver’s speeches, Lisa sees the credits while she also fits into the bizarre Hooterville life she resisted better than Oliver does, and where Hooterville puts on a play based on the Beverly Hillbillies show, which occurred in the same universe as Green Acres in addition to sharing characters.

I'm 65 years old; and whenever I catch glimpses of some recycled '60s TV series (like this one) on MeTv or the other wax museum channels, I STILL can't believe that their writers got paychecks, that real banks actually cashed, for working on them. (I'd have to say that "The Love Boat" takes the stale cake in this regard. As I channel-surfed one day, I caught the end of an episode where a passenger who just found out that he had a terminal illness was assured by the crew that staying cheerful and upbeat, in the company of his cruise pickup, would make everything just fine. Charming.)

Even as a 5-y.o., I never bought the two guys as astronauts -- too dumb. Looking back now, neither did they have any chemistry as actors. The two longtime pros Coca and Joe E. were the draw.

In a sense you missed nothing, and everything, the time period that is. It could never be explained to anyone in words, you had to been there during those years to 'get it'. Bob at 64.

'Its about time' was a 1year/short lived comedy series that was silly fluff and dissapeared quickly and forgetably like 'Captain Nice', 'Grindle', 'Mr. Terrific', 'My mother the car', and a few others. Dont feel left out, with those shows you didnt miss much.

The show was on CBS Sundays at 7:30 PM, between Lassie and Ed Sullivan. ABC had "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and NBC, Walt Disney, at that time, so I guess a lot of people saw how ridiculous this show was and tuned out; "Gentle Ben" replaced it in 1967. I might add that, despite having some of the lowest-common-denominator shows in television history, Sherwood Schwartz did turn out some memorable theme songs, notably "Gilligan's Island" and "The Brady Bunch."
