I was walking around my kitchen today and suddenly this song popped into my head - just the beginning “it’s about time, it’s about space“ and I couldn’t remember where it came from so I googled it. Now it’s all coming back to me - this show that was on when I was nine years old. It’s amazing how a song can get in your head like that and then pop up 50 years later

One problem Gilligan's Island has been rated as the worst show in the history of television I admit he did a lot other than that but still check out a book called the worst worst TV shows ever it's up there with Hogan's Heroes Hee Haw the gun show Three's Company Beacon Hill Etc

I was so fascinated about astronauts when I was a girl . From 6 - 10 I think thats when I said I wanted to be an astronaut . There were plenty of space shows back then. I had the song just pop into my \head and had to come here and reminisce.

Oh gawd, havent heard or thought about this theme song or show in 52 years as a 12 year old. Now I realize what a silly dud this was , as also Gilligans Island, Grindle, Car 54 where are you, Mr. Terrific, Captain Nice, and a few other short lived/dated fluff series. E-gads...thank God for better fair during the mid 60's in T.V. shows as Combat, The outer limits, Wild-wild west, The man from Uncle, Green acres, and a few others.

Watching Green Acres is a swan dive into surrealism, where the characters hear the piccolo during Oliver’s speeches, Lisa sees the credits while she also fits into the bizarre Hooterville life she resisted better than Oliver does, and where Hooterville puts on a play based on the Beverly Hillbillies show, which occurred in the same universe as Green Acres in addition to sharing characters.

I agree with you (except for Green Acres, which I thought was a very mean show). I especially loved The Outer Limits. I enjoyed the variety of action, character interplay, cleverness, costumes, etc., of The Wild West. I really like the intrigue and cool 😎 factor of The Man from Uncle.

In about 3rd grade kids sang on the playground, "it's about time, it's about space, it's about time to slap your face." Followed by an attempted slap of course. I never heard of the show or knew where the song came from. I had only heard the playground version.

I believe the style predates the feel by maybe a decade... maybe not the actual timeline but the feel.. to me is more..1840ish vibe while pink panther is 1968ish... just feeling the lines and motifs (while I do know that it is obviously late 60's)

Does anyone have any verifiable info on the animated titles sequences? They look like they could have been done by Gamma Productions, the Mexican animation studio that did several series for Jay Ward Productions, including Rocky and Bullwinkle, Tennessee Tuxedo, etc. It went defunct in 1967, the same year It's About Time was originally broadcast. Anybody?

Another series with a kick-a** theme song, "The Good Guys", also radically changed format halfway through its single season. The two leads went from diner owner (a miscast Herb Edelman) and his taxi driver friend (Bob Denver) in the city, to the co-owners of a bar-restaurant on a tropical beach. It didn't help, and was cancelled after about 10 more episodes.

In the meantime -- and I am not making this up -- Schwartz discovered that "shag" is a slang word with a naughty meaning in the UK. He wanted to preserve the chance for syndication there, and so had to change it.

I'm 65 years old; and whenever I catch glimpses of some recycled '60s TV series (like this one) on MeTv or the other wax museum channels, I STILL can't believe that their writers got paychecks, that real banks actually cashed, for working on them. (I'd have to say that "The Love Boat" takes the stale cake in this regard. As I channel-surfed one day, I caught the end of an episode where a passenger who just found out that he had a terminal illness was assured by the crew that staying cheerful and upbeat, in the company of his cruise pickup, would make everything just fine. Charming.)

Even as a 5-y.o., I never bought the two guys as astronauts -- too dumb. Looking back now, neither did they have any chemistry as actors. The two longtime pros Coca and Joe E. were the draw.

'Its about time' was a 1year/short lived comedy series that was silly fluff and dissapeared quickly and forgetably like 'Captain Nice', 'Grindle', 'Mr. Terrific', 'My mother the car', and a few others. Dont feel left out, with those shows you didnt miss much.

The show was on CBS Sundays at 7:30 PM, between Lassie and Ed Sullivan. ABC had "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and NBC, Walt Disney, at that time, so I guess a lot of people saw how ridiculous this show was and tuned out; "Gentle Ben" replaced it in 1967. I might add that, despite having some of the lowest-common-denominator shows in television history, Sherwood Schwartz did turn out some memorable theme songs, notably "Gilligan's Island" and "The Brady Bunch."
