At the wise age of almost 66, Ismael Vargas has 30+ years of landscaping knowledge and today he's sharing it while pruning a pomegranate tree! Karma strikes back at him here as thorns from the pomegranate tree get him a few times. Did you know Pomegranate trees had thorns? Some are massive! Proper footing is required.
Additional highlights include:
-safety and time saving skills using a tripod ladder
-simple pruning techniques (remove and/or cut back water growth and suckers, remove dead material-they can attract insects, remove crossing branches, open up the canopy)
-winter is a good time to prune deciduous trees and stone fruit trees
-pruning in spring can be done to remove water growth, suckers and open up the canopy
-build a low canopy to harvest fruit easier
-remove suckers at the bottom of the tree but leave some branches as they will fruit
-time is money, time is life
-be safe, work fast but keep the high quality of your work
-customers don't like you because you're handsome, pretty or smart; they like you because you do a good job
-leave the little branches alone
I hope with all these ideas that I've given you, you can go there and work on your own tree and make the tree every year be healthy and productive and also have a beautiful shape.
Good luck on your next project, see you soon!
