Smoky Quartz is my favorite gemstone! It’s the national stone of Scotland, sacred to the Gaels and Druids, associated with the gods and goddesses of Earth most especially Hekate. It’s a very grounding, clearing, and protective stone. It helps clear and process trauma. Widows often wore it in their mourning jewelry. Considering the tragic history of Scotland, it makes sense that this would be their stone. I wear smoky quartz every day, it helps ground and shield me from the massive amounts of trauma I come in contact with as a 911 Dispatcher. I often use it as a warding stone at my home too.

Thank you! (I’m mostly of Scottish ancestry). I used to go dig these smoky & phantom quartz up, (amethyst, tourmaline & crystal or gold encrusted fossils, too) illegally on white sands missile range land - up in the Organ mountains in NM. It was great rock hounding up there, but as the place we frequented was mostly sand at its lowest point, rattlesnakes, vinegaroons & scorpions - we definitely paid for that hike. You’d just start digging and come across clusters in holes. No rhyme, no reason. Thank you for the memories, I had almost forgotten about that. What a cool description!

I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU, ANDY (CRYSTAL USES) Amethyst, Smoky quartz, and clear quartz are all quartz pieces (obviously), but the colors are created based on the earth’s temperature when they formed. All quartz crystals are probably the easiest crystals, in my opinion, to be “programmed” for specific purposes. That being said, clear quartz is like a power house. It can provide energy and, as you said, a clear channel to angels, God, those who have passed on, etc. It’s a really good piece to hold when you’re doing a reading because it opens the third eye and crown chakra, so kudos for doing that. All quartz crystals are great for protection against negative energy and entities as well. AMETHYST: Purple, relates to the crown chakra and is protective, assists with healing and intuition, clear channeling. It’s known as a stone of sobriety and is good to have when quitting alcohol or other substances. It’s also good for the emotional body because of its relaxing effects. SMOKEY: All the same qualities mentioned above for Quartz crystals in general, but the smokey quartz is best suited for grounding and for protection against negativity of all kinds. Unlike other protective crystals (obsidian, black tourmaline, etc.), smokey doesn’t just absorb the negativity. It takes the negative energy in, transmutes it into something positive, and releases it back into the world. CLEAR: Clear quartz is a must have for anyone and everyone because it’s good for everything! Master healers! Amethyst is just all-around awesome for healing and protection. Smoky is grounding and protective. Clear quartz is super cool bc it will cleanse and charge your other crystals, and amplify properties of crystals.
