I remember when you first started her backpack thing in the old house. You were doing hand over hand and lots of verbal cues. Now she pretty much does it on her own. That’s so wonderful.

I went to selfie world website to read what it was about. It may not be for everyone and feel it is unfair to the business that ppl leave bad reviews and unflattering comments because you may disagree with owners. I watch their channel from what I see they don't force her to do anything. Again, i don't know them but from what I see Abbie is well taken care of. I give them credit in making sure Abby's future is secured.
@mariaespinoza63583 жыл бұрын
Abbie cries and had meltdowns, sometimes. But she's a teenager. Soo, let her grow and figure things out. She's learning about life ... and other things. Give her a minute or two. But do you see her cryyy Alll the time?! NO. Majority of the time, she's a happy, smiley 😊 joyful girl. If she was being abused... I'd doubt she'd be as happy as she is. Abbie's a lovely, loving, happy girl, because she's a very well loved little girl. They take care of her, because they love her💋

Is the cauldron for Selfie world or home? If it is for home, just use an LED water mister. But if it’s selfie world, you won’t want water in it, so the smoke machine will be brilliant. You can even get little button battery LED’s (just green or Colour changing (RGB)). I would use about 5 or 6 for that size 😊 Abbie’s communication is coming on leaps and bounds.

It has been my understanding that reinforcers are temporary rewards for compliance that are faded over time. I understand that it's hard to do but the idea is that eventually the request you are making becomes less and less undesirable with each iteration until it's tolerable. It sounds like the cookie has gone from being a reinforcer to almost a distraction. Perhaps you could replace it with another smaller edible (like maybe a mint or a tic tac) and fade that away over time until she no longer expects a reward. I understand it's rough though. For us it's Pop Tarts. I don't know how we got roped into giving our son those but we ended up getting trained to provide them out of a sense of duty and it's become a full out obsession. I recall fighting against the idea of using edibles but consistency is hard and somebody else introduced them so I lost that battle.
@fatheringautism3 жыл бұрын
The problem we have with stuff like this is the cookie is the end result of the actual activity rather than a side item that’s added as a reinforcer. Getting her to communicate a 3 part chain of events (where are we going, how are we getting there, and what are we doing when we get there) is an awesome goal she’s reached. The entire activity has become a reinforcer in itself.
@kwaktak3 жыл бұрын
@@fatheringautism that's when token economy becomes instrumental in teaching delayed gratification. It would help turn the expectation into an earned reward, not unlike how you reserve Entenmann's donuts to a birthday only thing. Here's what we used to do during happier times, it's not much different than your jaunts to Daley's: I used to take our son Justin to the grocery store on midafternoon runs in the middle of the week where we only needed 5-10 things, not a whole order. That way the shopping trip would be shorter. I knew that he couldn't tolerate more than 45 minutes due to overstimulation on his best day and weekends at the store are crowded, increasing the potential for outbursts and potential conflicts with others. There were a few "cleanup on aisle five" incidents and impromptu visits to the stock room! As for the token economy, at the time I had an Android phone and downloaded an app off Google Play. I can't remember the app exactly because we have iPhones now and that app isn't in the Apple Store - but I believe it was EasyKidTokens based on how the screen shots appear. The app is basically a checkbox type of drag and drop with a kid friendly user interface. You can select the appearance of the tokens from a list, choose an icon of the reward from a list or a photo from your photo library or use the camera, then specify how many tokens are needed to earn it. Back in those days we would engage with him on many similar drag and drop apps/games so it was kind of like a game to him, not a chore. Anyway, I would keep my shopping list in another app and once he was buckled into the cart I would show him how long the list was and explain to him how many items we were picking up, then switch over to the token economy app and we'd be off. When we'd get to the item in the store, I'd hand it to him and have him put it in the cart - he'd usually just toss it so I'd never get eggs! I'd check it off my list on my phone then I'd have him drag and drop an icon in the token app, repeating the process until the last one for which would be dropped when we were done checking out at the register. Our grocery store has various rewards and loyalty programs, including one called the "cookie card" which cost a dollar a year and entitles you to one cookie from the bakery which is located near the entrance/exit. They kept a variety behind the glass so I'd have Justin point his choice, ask the lady behind the counter (he's always made great eye contact despite the diagnosis), have him say please and thank you (which he is able to do when prompted) then my cookie monster and I would go directly out the door and be on our way. The cookie would never survive long enough to see the parking lot. Om nom nom nom.
