One tip for watching Horimiya: Always watch the after credit scenes. Or you might miss important points. Especially episode 7. Not every episode has an after credit scene but if they do they add often important information.

Minor point, but "Missing Pieces" is kinda sorta a season 2. I say "kinda sorta" because Season 1 is a complete story and "Missing Pieces" was released as a series of episodes from the manga that couldn't fit in the original anime. Like the name implies, "Missing Pieces" fills in some missing pieces from the original story that they couldn't fit in the anime. I mention this because you have the logo for Missing Pieces in the upper left corner, but you're actually just reviewing the original S1 Horimiya.

This is such a joy. Horimiya is one, if not my favorite romance story. It's very much a character driven story exploring the relationships between a growing, and a bit out there friend group. From the beginning you watch Hori and Miyamura form a friendship that evolves into a relationship. And while romance is part of the story, it isnt the main focus of the story. We dont spend the entire story building up to the confession or kiss. We spend the story simply watching these two grow and how their friends grow to be part of their little family. Miyamura is a character that is hard not to adore. In this one episode we see how different he is from the assumptions that others make of him, and how he handles those assumptions. Him showing Tooru his tattoos was his way of saying, this guy is worth trusting. Tooru could have been a jerk, or a jealous punk but when they talk things out they just become friends. And he respects Hori's rejection, even if it does hurt him. The only warning I'll give for Horimiya is that while I adore the anime, the first season was a rushed adaptation of the manga. It has a habit of skipping parts, and even whole arcs so the story sometimes feels like it goes by fast, or a bit out of place. That's where season 2, or Missing Pieces comes into place. Going back into the arcs skipped in the first season to essentially flush the story out more. The anime still does a good job at getting the important stuff in the story, but if it ever feels like things went by a bit fast, that's why. I'm excited to see the reactions continue. And to see the reactions to Hori and Miyamura's unique bond.

This is one of my favorite romance animes. Hori and Miyamura are maybe my favorite anime couple after Marin and Wakana from _My Dress-Up Darling._ I love the way they represent the characters' emotions in this series with the colored shadows on the almost snow-static background.

Horimiya has been a favorite manga of mine for a long time, it got a little short ova adaptation a while ago but it was a very pleasant surprise when this anime came out for it because i thought we were long past the point it was every likely to happen.

"Sorry, it's Egg Time!" I remember that line was a bit of a meme when it first aired, cuz the show was running at the same time as Wonder Egg Priority, which is another good show. Unfortunately, WEP suffered from massive production issues that resulted in the ending being... Not good. Not poorly drawn, mind you, the show is absolutely beautiful. Just that, iirc, there was rampant miscommunication or just no communication at all surrounding the ending, which led to the last few episodes being a mess.
