You have it backwards. A corrupt Russian puppet government completely reversed the agenda it promised the people of Ukraine and made decisions in Russia's favor rather than for the Ukrainian people. The people protested peacefully until the Russian controlled government beat them and even opened fire on them. The protest grew into a full on revolution and they kicked their Russian puppet out. He fled to Russia of course. There was no real conflict among Ukrainians over this. In response to losing his control over Ukraine's resources, primarily oil, Putin immediately invaded and occupied the resource rich regions of Ukraine in 2014. Prior to this there was no armed fighting, shelling, or genuine problems. Since 2014 the Ukrainians have been fighting to kick the Russian occupiers out. All the problems started in 2014 when thousands of Russian soldiers flooded Ukraine, the problems will leave when the Russian soldiers leave. Putin of course used Ukrainians trying to kick Russian soldiers out of Ukraine to label them as "Nationalist Ukrainian anti-Russian Nazis" as his excuse to what he thought would be a simple task of taking more of Ukraine. The meme is Putin could take it in 3 days. The comment on record is Putin telling an EU official he could take Kyiv in two weeks if he so ordered it (showing his delusional mindset and pretty much validating the '3 day meme'). Putin played a stupid game and unfortunately Russians have to pay the stupid price for his idiocy.

Putin's priorities appear to be (1) personal security and (2) regime security. I suggest that any written resolution of the conflict should include the following provision. Ukraine and Russia each agree that the President of the other counry SHOULD be offered a voluntary personal security territory around a specific residence or compound that will last until the all war crime charges against the President have been resolved. The arrangement would allow the President to retain his title and powers, but he would not retain his personal security if he choses to leave the area temporarily.

Wrong, Ukraine is in tatters, not Russia. This incursion over the lightly held Kursk region, is lightly held for a reason. The attack was done with little thinking as to strategic objective on the ground. Ukrainian leadership hasn't even given one! The Battle of the Bulge is the closest comparison and even that one had, as an objective, the ports of Antwerp and the cutting off of supply lines of the allies on the ground. This attack's objective was solely for the continuous of the war, by showing the U.S and NATO that they are capable of at least doing "something." The upcoming U.S election, coupled with going into winter weather is the fear that drove the Ukrainian zombie government to choose to do this incursion.

Russia has lost over a 1/2 million soldiers, is on the brink of economic disaster, both Turkey and China have shut down direct trade, the Siberian/Mongolia/China constructions are dead, inflation (interest rates at 18% and more). Putin is flying around to Azerbaijan, Chechnya, (kissing the Koran), and much more. The one small light as of August 21 is that Azerbaijan has applied to Brics. However, that's a tight rope as the West, Italy and the USA, are huge buyers of their crude oil. Russia is not on the ropes yet but the next few months will tell. Ukraine may be in tatters but it has weathered most of what Russia (via the West of course) has thrown. If the West continues its support, Russia will be begging for a treaty of some sort.

It’s NATO weaponry, it’s NATO intel, and it’s NATO troops as well, that invaded the Kursk region of Russia…in Ukrainian uniform. Calling it an Ukrainian incursion is misleading.

Ukraine backed by NATO achieved nothing in Kursk. They knew the defenders of the area were inexperienced recruits. The NATO backed ukranians expected to reach the Kursk nuclear reactor no doubt to cause a disaster in Russian territory. These NATO backed Ukrainian forces were contained and mostly destroyed. This entire incursion was a dangerous folly which can only please the hawks of war and no one else.
