If there’s one thing I’ve learnt over years of watching football, never *EVER* sleep on the mid-to-top table Spanish teams. Not Sevilla, not Villarreal, not La Real, not Betis, not Athletic club. Despite what Premier League fans who have never watched La Liga say, the Spanish league has the strongest mid table teams in Europe. A big part of this is that they don’t have the budgets of English clubs and so it forces them to either be effective or suffer the consequences. Really Darwinian stuff. Villarreal and Sevilla in particular have been kings of this and repeatedly show it on the field.

Villareal played really really well today. Bayern offense was toothless thanks to a great performence from their defense, especially Albiol and Foyth. The defense looked a bit shaky they were lucky that Villareal didn't convert more of their chances. But then again this leg isn't over. Many did write Bayern off after the first leg against Salzburg and they did advance in the end.

A lot of people are too overconfident in saying Bayern easily smash Villarreal but forgot the pretty poor results this season such as losing 5-0 to Monchengladbach, nearly losing to Salzburg, drawing to Hoffenheim and Leverkusen and imo the worst result losing 4-2 to Bochum, their 2020 version was consistent and won games easily after 30 minutes, and fair play to Villarreal, if they were better in La Liga, they would be getting maybe top 4, but I do see that they are at least putting all effort in the UCL.

I CANNOT WAIT FOR BARCA back in the CL next season. WE SMACKED Madrid 4-0, Villarreal 3-1 and Atletico 4-2 and there all in the quaters two of them on track to the semis. Barcelona will finally be able to compete hard next season and ALSO right now would be the perfect time for Barca to face Bayern so we can finnally get some revenge under the right team and manager.

lol I really dislike Villarreal but they played very well yesterday. Solid defensively. Created chances. Bayern didn't show up, and the second leg will be a measurement of his growth as a manager...but I fully expect them to hammer Villarreal. The footballing ego of Munich is too high. I still think Bayern moves on, comfortably enough in the end. Villarreal wasted so many chances though to beat Bayern 3-0 or so. Just terrible decisions in front of the net against an awful Bayern defense (save perhaps for that rescue by Davies).
