Earthen plaster demo continues on the solar shed. We take our time removing all the loose material revealing the surprisingly good looking hyperadobe bags underneath. Then we fill back in the large cavities with cob in preparation for stucco.

As a fellow off-grid builder, I appreciate you sharing important learning experiences. I loved the artistic wall, and was also looking at using natural materials for my adobe laminate home... but as a single building I see I can't afford to experiment. So, I will definitely pick some commercial products for labor intensive steps such as stucco. You are an awesome team and family. Solo builders like myself count on these kinds of KZbin videos. Great job and great positive energy even with setbacks.

It’s dreadful dodging the weather to get things done,there’s been storms going over the USA for a while and another lot of less potent coming through.I was thinking of you all when I saw it on the news,I knew you were working on getting the building stripped.At least you got everything off ,the layer you filled in the gaps dried.So I hope the rest goes well.I notice not only the kittens,which are adorable,but you also have acquired a Labrador or are you just baby sitting him.He’s a lovely calm spirit,!not bouncy and boisterous as the other two.that we love dearly. I am sitting in my front room with a windy wet day,it’s needed and has cooled our weather down here in the U.K. We have not had much rain this year which is unusual as normally we would have a lot mor.Shows the global warming ..Keep up the great work.The house is next 🥰

I see that you have your LGD out spending time with your family. I had thought that was not a good idea until they are a full adult as they need to be fully bonded with the animals they protect and that if you seperate them and allow them to be with you they won't bond well with the livestock. I have 3 great suggestions. 1st try using a Rubber mallet To loosen large stuff .❤❤❤❤ removal, Then I would just power wash before final coating. I used to work on swimming pools. We used a product called acryl 60 Highly concentrated available in 1 or 5 gallon buckets. Using a small amount of this liquid mixed with water to our concrete mix made it permeable to water and Added great adhesion Value . I suggest you try it cause a little goes a long way.

Crossing my fingers that the weather cooperates. I am so envious about the fact that y'all are getting monsoon weather. I know it's not optimal because of what you need to get done, but still. I'm in Yuma, and AccuWeather is showing no chance of rain until August. It's just a handful of days, and only 25% chance. I don't know about others that live in the desert, but for me, monsoon season is the only thing that makes our 115°+ days worth it. I love the desert. A lot of people can't see the beauty of the desert, but it's here. ❤️🌵☀️⛈️🌈☮️🐎

Back when you did this building you were trying to get by with mixes with the least amount of cement possible. I haven't heard you talk about that with this failure. Wouldn't it be worth it to have a higher ratio of cement and have it stick better?
@TinyShinyHome
@TinyShinyHome Жыл бұрын
Maybe for the bags, but no the exterior plaster had a lot of cement in it per Cal-Earth's recommendations. Sticking wasn't the problem - it was never sealed enough to keep water from penetrating. That's why we're coming back with stucco and an elastomeric coating like we did for the Casa de Caca.

I think you should do a small test spot with the stucco and let it dry, then check it for adhesion to the bags. I feel like the mesh of the bag may not be large enough as to be conducive for adhesion and holding power like any of the various meshes(chicken wire other hardware cloths) they use when applying stucco professionally. IF it doesn’t hold properly then probably your easiest and cheapest route would be to hammer in some 16 penny nails, or nails there about in size, leaving enough of the nail exposed to equal the thickness of the stucco, then take and crisscross the nails with thin twine or ‘plastic’ twine like what they use at Lowe’s by the doors for people to tie red flags to long items sticking out of vehicle. That way the stucco will have something to keep it in place and you would have something to measure the thickness of the stucco for the entire surface. I have a full spool of that plastic twine like they use at Lowes if you want it, only I have no income right now, as I’m waiting on approval for my disability, so you would have to pay for the shipping. If I had the funds I would pay for it, IF you even want or need it, lol!! Or if you know anyone with a lot of plastic bottles, preferably 2ltr bottles you can build a small cutter that will cut the bottles into plastic twine for you.

Jonathan, Can these hyper Adobe bags be used to support a ready made storage barn that's built on 4 x 6 skids. Lots of people just level the area and spread gravel, and the building is placed on the gravel. Unfortunately, the site I want to use is sloped diagonally about 18 to 24 inches, and the bedrock is just below the surface, or is exposed already. It seems like building up the low with hyperadobe bags to level would be a good option. Your opinion?
