Just a little pointer from someone that has stacked a many a bale just like you're doing. When you bale go clockwise around the field, the PTO shaft on the baler is designed for you to turn toward the pickup not away from it and it is a whole lot easier on your baler doing it that way
@blackcreekhomestead2983 Жыл бұрын
Awesome, thanks for the pointer :)
@joesteck6631 Жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct. That is a very good habit to get into. I still have to tell my wife sometimes not to go counter clockwise. It drives me crazy. If she tears up something she won’t be the one fixing it.

I just found your channel. I really enjoyed the content. Sure did bring back a lot of memories. We never had a hay wagon so the baler (268 New Holland) dropped the bales on the field and we loaded them on a flat bed truck. I subscribed to your channel. Thank you all for sharing your journey (life) !!! Please be careful and God bless you all!!! Eddy (South western Virginia)

I know how hard you both work. I started the same way stacking on pallets and covering it with tarps. You loose a lot from the dampest from the ground. I sure was glad to by a farm with a bank barn.
@blackcreekhomestead2983 Жыл бұрын
Yes it’s a stuggle but all we have right now, we have plans to build a barn but I think that is being pushed to next year we just have to much going on and not enough time! Someday we will have dry hay storage and not have to work so hard to keep it dry

Glad to see you switched jobs at times, it certainly is harder to stack bales on the wagon than to drive the tractor. The bales needed to be protected against the rain, of course, but otherwise sealing them with tarps before they have cured completely may lead to mold. I know what I am talking about -been there done it! A barn that allows air flow is best.
@blackcreekhomestead2983 Жыл бұрын
Yes I agree, they were calling for rain the next day so we had no choice but to tarp it. We don’t have a barn yet to store our hay! Hopefully next year!

It's best to stack fresh baled hay for storage on its side not flat and covering with tarps before it cures often leads to spoilage.

I will keep that in mind for next time thanks!

There is a tool, a hay hook, we always used to make the job a bit easier. It does have a sharp point though, so you have to be a little careful with it.

Thank you! It’s been a tough go here also with the same issue and the weather network being wrong lol we did have one of our fields get rained on earlier in the year we managed to save some of it but the rest we had to fed to our cattle right away.

Here's a hint... Dont wear black to put up hay ... Especially black tights or "tic tok tights". You're begging for a heat stroke.. Put some old jeans & a T-shirt maybe...

I find jeans really hard to move in when I’m climbing up and down to stack the hay that’s why I wear leggings. Yes black in not the ideal colour to wear but that’s why you keep yourself hydrated and take breaks :)
