They put that system in because it is literally the least they could have done. He had already threatened that school and others, the FBI had already investigated him and the school knew he was a threat before school even started because he had already made the threats they should have made him done digital/distance learning instead of putting him in a classroom with other students after making a terroristic threat that obviously wasn't a hallow. The FBI, local police, school, and school district knew he was a threat and chose to put remote locks on doors instead of removing him from the school and having him do digital learning or doing both of those things. They knew this trajedy had the potential of happening and instead of completely minimizing that threat by having him do distance learning or alerting parents that threats were made and that student had no reprimand and was still in school they chose to put locks on doors and that's supposed to be glorified that they did the bare minimum against a known threat. Prisoners get safer conditions when they get death threats than innocent children get when there's a known threat against them. Pathetic. They just expect the country to be thankful they did anything rather than nothing even though there were more blatanlty obvious solutions they could have chosen as well that could have actually prevented this situation. Maybe we should ask goverment members and the rich people that run this country what the safety features are at their kids schools and if they would be fine with their schools only having the safety features public schools have or if that's not actually safe enough

Imagine a highway where the speed limit is 130mph (200+km/hr). Most people don't drive that speed but a few people want to because they they can do so safely. They enjoy it and it's their right. However, once in a while, someone who shouldn't drive that speed, does and kills a bunch of people. There may be several reasons the crash occurred but everytime someone drives that speed and crashes, multiple innocent people die. SO, the advocates of maximum speed want better technology, seat belts, air bags, road dividers, increased education/training on driving that speed, etc. Anything but a lower speed limit which scientifically, is proven to lower the incidence of death when an accident occurs. I love America for many things and there are so many great people and I don't know the answer, but as a non-American, this is what it's like looking from the outside in.

A colt is a young male horse -- and deriving from that, it's been used as a common male name that dates back to the earliest days of the U.S. The "Colt" of firearms fame has a similar derivation, but is even older, dating back to Medieval England, where it became a popular surname. It was coincidentally the surname of the Colt company's founder, Samuel Colt. I do not believe that we can leap to assumptions that the boy's name is firearm inspired, as the name is just very popular -- it has been in top lists among all American boys for many years now. After all, the Indianapolis NFL team is not named after guns, it is named after horses -- that is where this name originally came from. We shouldn't reach to find data that fits our preconceived notions. It is enough to say that this child committed a horrible act, and authorities need to look further to find out why.

Freedom and security must be balanced and unfortunately the most vulnerable are usually the ones to pay the cost. Can and should we do more? Probably. But know and understand it will be at the cost of our freedoms. Is it worth it? It depends on what we value most. This is a tragedy and this should wake all of us up and at least allow us to have meaningful and respectful discussions about this topic.

I'm from the UK and it isn't easy to get access to guns, and almost impossible for children to access guns, or adults to get access to an AR-15 rifle. Because of this we do not have school shootings. Tragedies still happen, some angry kid with a knife, but nowhere near the murders you get in the US. Gun control is the answer, though some people don't want to hear it. 2023 in US: A total of 754 people were killed and 2,443 other people were injured in 604 mass shootings. 2023 in UK: A total of 0 people were killed and 6 people injured in 1 mass shooting.
