I think when you use echo that can freeze boss, you can switch to another character so you can freeze the boss while also attacking using another character you're switched to

for now everyone is a dps, we don't know whether or not they will add a support adjacent resonator in the future as pretty much everyone had a passive that encourages a more proactive approach, so even healer like baizhi and verina is still encouraged to do dps when switched in, and most of the dps support comes mostly from the outro skill. The most broken characteer for cbt2 is Danjin a 4* but she is also pretty much the hardest character to play at a high skill level currently, but for pulling a 5* its probably jiyan or jianxin as their kit is both easy to learn and hits hard.
