The time of lent is called Pentecost or Almsgiving and it also has traditions in some churches, but takes place during the 40 days before easter.

Hi! A danish person here, nisser are like the elf, they help Santa though out the year and in December one nisse comes to our house and live in the walls, they give small children gifts every day in december and give the bigger kids gifts every advent, in our stokings if that makes sense, they can also be a "drille nisse" wich means "teasing elf" they then play tricks on the kids like coloring the milk blue or put rice in our shoes and so on❤️🫶🏻

The Polish tradition of having an extra place set is because they believe no one should be alone at Christmas, so say your car broke down on Christmas (24th) for example you're supposed to be able to knock on anyone's door for help and it's their duty as good people and Catholics to take that person in and feed them until they can get help so they're not alone, my partner is Polish and I only learned about it last year but I thought it was actually a really sweet sentiment, but definitely sounds a bit sketchy with no context🤣
