Great video, Have been curious about Gwen, being able to deal with Elon for 20 years and survive, is impressive...🤭 Sounds like she's the "Mom" at SpaceX... 🤣 She wants a ship a day? No problem! was thinking a couple days ago how to do robotic fabrication of ships... Saw a render of what looked like the set up jigs and robotic weld up of first base section of nose cone. Was a nice system, but I suspect problems with warpage due to only one weld at a time and full length continuous welds. Usually on steel hulls you have to skip weld all over the place after tacking everything up, or else you get a hull warped out of shape from weldment shrinkage. I think you could do continuous welding from the outside OK, but you would need to weld all the seams at the same time or have everything clamped up until it cooled... Not sure what they are doing now on the nose cones, or if they are running into warpage, but seeing the render made me think of robotic fabrication. and how you could combine with a jig system and longitudinal gores, And literally create ships off rolls of stainless by shape rolling long ways, doing gore edge cuts where shapes were desired, and laying in longitudinal and transvers internal structure and using enough robot welding arms, fabricate similar to extrusion. where you basically feed in metal, spliced new rolls onto the butt end of old rolls, and could create ships of any length in a matter of hours. Also if your jigs were automated and adjustable you could do several diameters. Either by cutting sheet width or by adding in new jig and gore sections and more welding arms. What I am talking about is full robotic and automated fabrication of ships, and have the hulls pop out ready to install decks and tank ends. And there, you could have already laid in and welded up strap edging plates around the interior of the hull diameter. So basically you'd have a few inches to lap over with your deck plate sections for adjustment, and then lay in with your deck supprt structure already attached, and use bridge clips in the corners. Talking a Starship a day, easy peasy... And not just one popping out per day, but start to finish in a day, and as many Starships per day as you had systems for. Anyway... another crazy idea, But Elon has liked some of my crazy ideas before... And we do want to build as many Starships as possible. And likely could keep the current welders busy building new robotic systems for increasing numbers of production lines and infrastructure for increasing numbers of ships in use. Space is like having a Wifey; You're never gonna run out of work... (😂)

Answer: BIG Falcon Rocket. 😂 She put in extra effort on the word big. It was halaus. As for her question as to why we can't make a Starship in a day or 24 hours. SpaceX can. It's just a matter of figuring it out how to do it. With the efforts going to this company, I wouldn't be surprised if one day, SpaceX surpassed that. 🙂

She is allowed to run the company without any of the dead weight of standard HR and other bureaucratic obstacles. I also doubt there is DEI training as the company is a meritocracy.

I cannot help but feel trying to set up a colony on Mars is going to be a pipe dream at best and a complete disaster at worst. When you look at the amount of obstacles to human health let alone all the other terrestrial problems mechanically with Mars I think many many people are going to die on that planet if we try to set up anything beyond a science station.
@Ryan-mq2mi11 күн бұрын
Thing is, this "pipe dream" which absolutely is almost impossible, its that difficult. It is possible in time though. Regardless, the key thing about this is its almost entirely funded by a private space company - spacex. Yes, they have some contracts with the government, ferrying things to the space station, and they have a huge business in Starlink, but beyond costs, Starlink is almost solely funding this pipe dream. So really - why not? It's up to spacex

@@jroar123I think they're referring to his relation with the FAA. From what I heard he's getting VERY angry with them, as is everyone, but anger is not going to solve anything. Like they said, it's good to know that the main person behind relations is level headed. If Elon tried to negotiate, he would probably just piss them off with his signature attitude, LOL.
@jroar12311 күн бұрын
@@deftknight7418 possibly but believe me when I say he has his guys inside the beltway working their magic. And, he has friends in high office in Austin as well. Governor Greg Abbott wants to keep Star Base in South Texas (Brownsville) to make the place a sold space port. He’s going to do whatever it takes to keep SpaceX happy. Elon is rich enough he doesn’t worry about what others think about him. The extra time placed on the next launch just means his engineers have more time to work out technical problems. In the end, everything will come out in the wash. NASA timelines might be pushed back slightly, however, they are behind on Artimos as it is anyway. Starliner is a disaster, unless they can drop ULA and fly Starliner on top of a SpaceX rocket. If they took that approach, they could fly Starliner (after the engineering repairs) at least once a month. Blue Origin will yell foul but I don’t see them putting New Glenn up any time soon (or often). The Chinese might give Elon competition as they try to unravel what they managed to copy and incorporate in their reusable rocket system. If Elon is cool-headed (or not) really doesn’t matter too much. If Harris wins, NASA will still want them for several missions. The USSF (United States Space Force) actually want to force SpaceX to launch their missions. The other Pentagon players also want Starship access to space. And, there is also allied Countries wanting to use Starship if not Space Dragon. After the ISS de-orbits, they will want to put up another (larger) one using inflatable habitats. Space tourism will pick up as prices drop. Communication companies will want to improve their orbiting equipment. Space Junk retrieval will become its own company picking up junk in space. Science projects will see several new projects. New space telescopes will be put up along with missions to other worlds. The bottom line is that Elon already has Dragon and Dragon heavy to answer his clientele’s needs. Starship will quadruple their clients reach into space. He doesn’t need to come unhinged over anything. Our Government needs him more that he needs them but cooperative situation benefits everyone. If Trump wins, President Trump will ensure he gets full cooperation from all 3 letter departments. My prediction is that Elon gets a Starship on the moon in 2 years and on Mars (cargo) within 6 years. The space industry is about to explode with new technologies and more importantly, new jobs.
