this video is basically the official tutorial on HOW TO REALLY START WITH MULTIBOARD, because the official material is very complicated and doesn't explain the basics to people who are not advanced wall organization system users. I think I watched it around 3 or 4 times because whenever I was unsure what to do I would search and click on this. hahahah. Thanks so much for the great video.

I never use those wall anchors because sometimes the screw grabs and makes them rotate in their hole or even pull out of the hole in some cases. There is another, much better type of drywall anchor that has a self-tapping tip and very coarse threads. You screw it into the drywall directly, no pilot holes required (although it's not a bad idea to make a small one beforehand). The biggest advantage of this type of anchor is that it cannot come loose so you can tighten the screws into them as tight as you want. You can find those at any home improvement store.

I usually use those kind but thought I'd try something now. I'm wondering now if my screws just aren't long enough. Going to try a test soon. Either way my wall feels very solid. Thanks for watching the video!

Great video and nice organizing system. Appreciate the easy to follow tutorial! The one thing I would do differently is to paint a 1/2 or 3/4 inch sheet of plywood in your wall color, and attach that to the studs in 4-8 spots (depending on your storage board size). Then mount your board on that with smaller screws that does not penetrate the drywall. That way you don't have to use those shitty dry wall anchors and your wall doesn't end up looking like a Swiss cheese.

You can easily make custom size tiles (panels) just by importing several into PrusaSlicer and offset them relative to each other in one direction or the other by multiples of 25 mm. So you can have an 8x6, 10x4, 6x12, etc. Whatever size you want. Then just make sure to highlight all of the tiles and right-click "Merge" before slicing.

Matthias Wandel once made a video criticizing these wall organizers in general. The main issue with such wall systems is that, instead, you could simply attach some OSB to the wall and then screw the 3D-printed supports directly onto it. This approach is cheaper, stronger, and more customizable.
@CyberBobCity
@CyberBobCity 3 ай бұрын
I think these options are a much more refined alternative to screwing into OSB. The same with using French cleats. But everyone has different styles and needs so it's great we have lots of options to find what best suits us! Thanks for watching!

the only thing i would suggest is to mount a aesthetic/sacrificial board (plywood or something) to the wall.and then mount the Multiboard to the wood, only to limit the amount of holes you would drill into the sheet rock. as time goes by you choose to go with a different system or take it down for what ever reason.

For the cutout supports and making the board more stiff even when offset, I guess you could use the threaded inserts with just the right length to touch and sit on the wall without having to drill new holes. I haven't tried this, so it's just a theory, but I'm in exactly the same position you were where I started the HSW project and then this came along. I love how the models for this system exploded, but I'm not a fan that the official measurements aren't public, but I guess it's only a matter of time. P.S. I tested this on a small scale, it seems like it would work, but there aren't any bolts at the moment that would be the right length for this.

Honest question; Do you think maybe the amount of wall anchors is overkill? Given the multiboard is plastic (strong, but still plastic) there's a limit to the weight that can be hung. It seems like the large sections (8x8x4's) could be just as good with one anchor in each corner. I could be totally wrong though, thoughts?
@CyberBobCity
@CyberBobCity 10 ай бұрын
I think there are some people putting anchors in all 4 quadrants of the quad snap. I didn't think that was necessary. For this to feel ridged, I think I used the right amount of wall anchors, and 8 of the screws ended up going into studs. While I don't think I'm going to hang anything super heavy on this, the board seems strong.

If the screws for your drywall anchors won't give you a solid mount, you've probably drilled the hole too big, or you may have stripped the plastic anchor.

Don't get me started on that! I have the Algot system from Ikea which they discontinued in 2020 so I can no longer get shelves for it. So pissed. I wanted that thinner bottom shelf to go all the way across and I think I had one but I can't find it. I should have bought extra of everything so I could have some flexibility if I wanted to move things around. The bins though are all Ikea. Then I bought these plastic label holders from Amazon and then I just printed labels no regular paper that go inside of them to label everything. So I like those... Just wish they would stick with an organizational storage system....

Very interesting point. I am printing a 9-foot wide (by 4 -foot-high) wall right now. I don't plan to use a ton of printed accessories, as I just bought a 278-piece, metal accessory pack, and also several shelves and baskets. None span more than 12 holes (horizontally). It will be interesting to see if I find any issues. BTW, I decided to use this over a standard metal 1-in (25.4 mm) pegboard, because I need to mount all my home automation equipment and Wi-fi/routers/switches. Lots of wires, and this will organize/hide them. IMO, this is the true value of this system. Of course, I plan to hang a ton of 3D printer tools also. I am a huge fan of this design. And CyberBob... your video is what inspired me ...Thanks!

Taking 2 designs, removing what you don't want and putting them together is something I'm having issues with and I'm not sure if it's me or the program I'm using. Hi. What you want is to download the snap ".step" file and that you can import into Shapr3d. Just search the Google for "Snaps - STEP Multiboard Remixing Files" and you'll be able to download that file, import it into Shapr3d, and add additional bodies next to it which you can then export as one piece. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

I've since been told of some "Wall Support Pegs" you can install which can help with that. But in daily practice it's no big deal. The honeycomb wall only has snaps, this can use pegboard accessories, snaps, or threaded bolts because both the octogons and the smaller peg board holes are threaded...

It’s really not too bad. There are 3 types. Core tiles, side tiles, and a corner tile. Most of your board will be core tiles starting from the bottom left and working up and to the right. The top and right edges will be side tiles, and your final tile in the top right corner will be the one corner tile. You should only need one of those corner tiles.
