"Not going to get into the particulars of FCC" yet claims "NOT Criminal" when it is criminal. Fine, do a video on how to scamble and break FCC Part97 rules, but just don't claim it's not criminal unless you are actually going to do your homework. Click bait at it's best. FCC art 97 Rule is governed by U.S.C. 47. Penalties for violating U.S.C. 47 is found in part § 501. Any person who willfully and knowingly does or causes or suffers to be done any act, matter, or thing, in this chapter prohibited or declared to be unlawful, or who willfully and knowingly omits or fails to do any act, matter, or thing in this chapter required to be done, or willfully and knowingly causes or suffers such omission or failure, shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished for such offense, for which no penalty (other than a forfeiture) is provided in this chapter, by a fine of not more than $10,000 or by imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or both; except that any person, having been once convicted of an offense punishable under this section, who is subsequently convicted of violating any provision of this chapter punishable under this section, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $10,000 or by imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both.

Anyone really interested in capabilities of radio encryption in a SHTF scenario (and only then, when it's WROL) but not wanting a college course on radio programming to make it work at the high Motorola cost, I recommend the AnyTone 878 HT and 578 Base. You can have digital radio with AES 256 encryption available on several different frequency bands. It wouldn't matter who was listening or how, they aren't going to understand it. Maybe the NSA can if you're a specific target? But I doubt it.

No, the average radio user will not be able to decode the scrambler settings on the HT, unless they have scrambler settings available on their flavor of HT or radio. Whichever brand it might be. Beats nothing I suppose. It is claimed to be illegal in some places in the world. Encryption is also claimed to be illegal in some places. Amen!

Depends on how much of your area you want to keep tabs on. With a TinySA, you can keep tabs on just about everything from MF to UHF, but you won't be hearing any of it, and most of the time you won't need to. Knowing the bands, and watching what modes are in use will give you more awareness of whats around you than listening for random signals using a cheap Chinese radio as a scanner.

Hondo is 'hell on wheels' - what a great trail partner! Just getting into comms. It's the dang 'Sad HAMS' that have us all jumpy about violating FCC 'rules' and $100,000 fines. The licensed HAM community has a lot of 'Karens' on the inside. It's strange because as a 'pro-gun' guy I don't go around screaming 'everyone needs to fill out a Form 4473 to buy a firearm'! Know what I mean? I'm not against handing over $35 to the fed-gov for a GMRS license but it feels like a 'permission slip' to play only with the 'minions'. Why's everyone so worked up about a 5W or 10W HH transmission for anyway - it's not like it's going to cause a 'city wide blackout' of Nashville for GOD's sake! I'm learning the basics from 'the book' and YT posts from the 'good guys' but eventually see a need for pro instruction. It also seems to be a highly 'perishable skill' if not frequently attended to.
@johnjacobs31602 ай бұрын
A 5watt transmission messed up a rescue. Another 5 watt transmission interfered with a linked repeater system taking it down. So realize it's not Karen's but actual people being harmed. You say you are learning, so perhaps this is a god learning moment for you to realize the potential for harm. Or learn from the LARPER in this tvide and go ahead and transmit where your ChiCom radio allows you. Hopefully you walk over a military channel and you get vectored in on. The fact that you openly posted on big brother tube about you not following ATF rules tells me they are already watching you.

I have 1 radio that has that capability...h3 just like you. But the other 8 do not. So, wattage and antennas are also a good place to start as far as commo net security. in a worse case scenario, the "perimeter" radios will be set for a frequency just off from FRS, lowest wattage output and have tiny 2 inch stubby antennas. they are not getting out more than a half mile tops. Nobody is gonna hear those radios. The radios for actually speaking to other hams will have excellent antennas and higher wattage.......but they wont be used to transmit very often. In a crisis, mostly listen. Be very careful what you say.....even to people you know. Example: I might want to know where the real chaos is happening...so thats an ok subject to discuss with hams. Answering questions as to what equipment I possess is definately not a good thing to do in a crisis over the ham bands airwaves.

The coast guard can triangulate a distress call in 10 seconds or less. Ukranians using Baofengs brought down a lot of rain from Russian artillery. The FCC is retarded, and you have to be an Alpha Hotel persistently to get their attention, usually with a lot of wattage. If you're talking to your buddy with 5 Watts in the woods pushing deer, nobody cares - if you're not disrupting anything. If you're intentionally trying to piss off hams by playing reggaeton for hours and days over their repeaters, they will eventually find you. Eventually. And, they will bring expensive nerd-justice. It all depends on your situation. Plan accordingly.
