You’re living in rich man’s land if you think we live in an America with the same ability to reach middle class status as we had three decades ago…then you’re living in a rich man’s world. I’m a middle class libertarian conservative. But I also work multiple jobs and my wife works as well. In fact, I have two really good jobs. My dad didn’t have the same issue. He worked one job 40 hours a week while my mom stayed home. He raised two kids, bought a home, took us on good vacations..all from that one job.

I remember those days. That was before the government stepped in with Civil Rights and Women's Lib., and the Petro Dollar, which by the way, died this year thanks to BRICS. I suspect things are getting ready to get really interesting, now that the Dollar's reserve status has been knocked off of its pedestal. Time will tell.

Same here EXCEPT! My Dad worked 50, 60 hours a week or more but he had jobs with union wages and benefits, plus they lived within their means. Vacations were family camping in tents, not RV's close to where we live. I saw how hard he and my Mom worked so I didn't have children, gave up on having a woman living with me as they're demanding dependents. I had a skilled trade, traveled to where the work was and now have two pensions and social security to live on out in the country in a simple little place that's bought and paid for. If you weren't born into a wealthy family life is not going to be "fair" or "easy", you'll have to work your A*S off to get anything. Quit complaining!

Omg. I used to live comfortably until 2019 with minimum wage and have hobbies free of stress. After 2021...I have to work several times harder, twice the hours and 2x min wage just to live at an apartment with basic stuff. Free time is mostly gone, only have time and energy for meaningless things like watching videos and some comments. It's brutal. For these people to tell me the american dream isn't dead when I see it already buried lol! They are living on another planet. Then again, conservatives were never good at motivating the youth. That's why they are losing the culture war. They can't understand. And rich conservatives are even worse: Not only are they living on another planet, they are also millions of years in the past of that planet!

Pat... Your fortune is estimated at over 350 million usd$. Your environment is completely disconnected from reality. From your circle of friends, to your professional life, to the acquisition of everything you want. Villas. The luxury cars. Expensive watches and so on. I understand that you took risks, persevered and never gave up and it finally paid off for you... I may be an optimist, but rationally, it's impossible for most people to reach the “dream”...

Nothing is impossible. You need to change your mindset and your attitude. Everything starts from you and from within. Each generation has a different economy, and a an American dream that needs to be redefined by you. Sorry. The american dream is not available for the majority of people. When I was in school, I was told that if you work hard, be moral, and things will work out. That worked for 90% of the population. You didn't have to have a high IQ or a side hustle or a silver spoon in your mouth. Today you have to scramble harder than any previous generation currently living. You also have to be incredibly lucky. Although it can work out the realization that its not working for 90% of the people should be a wake up call for all of us.

That is because of the economics of that time. Nothing will be static, life changes, economies change generations change. What is the economic American dream for you? What is it for your generation? You have to understand why things were so much more different previously. You need to learn your history. That was such a blip on the radar. That is not the norm. Everybody keeps comparing today’s economy with what was happening in the 50s and 60s. Why? Why were the 50s and 60s and even 70s an easier time to own a home and only have one person in the household that actually had to work? Think about it. Why was it like that? What happened that allowed that type of a lifestyle to exist?

Further, the largest wealth transfer in human history occurs every year with Medicare and Social Security. Social Security is insolvent and Millennials and Gen Z pay into the fund and the government continues to borrow and print money to pay for Boomer entitlement benefits, even though they are the wealthiest generation in American history. We are on pace to exceed 50 trillion in national debt within the next decade due to the economic policies of the Boomers. His house (why my grandmother lived in until her death earlier this year at 95, and where they raised 4 kids) was 12,000. Of course, since they had to eat and wear clothes, buy gas etc, it took them a few more years to pay it off than 3, but still in the single digits. *edit, I should mention, he worked at a GM plant at the relevant time.

Its very disingenuous of you guys to lecture people on complaining about not being able to achieve the American dream. I'm just an average person. I don't have a personality, I'm not attractive, I'm not smart. I'm not complaining about being a millionaire like you guys. All I'm complaining about is not being able to afford your basic everyday average person's lifestyle. You can't compare that to your kids complaining or being negative about a task they are assigned.

I’m 64, the American dream to me meant having my own home, owning my own business and raising a family. Children came at 31, home ownership came at 45 and owning my own business came at 44. It takes time

Im single, make $60k yr, have 3 kids 50/50 (divorced and pay no support) and live in the Midwest. I cannot afford the median rent, and living expenses. I’m forced to drive an old beat up vehicle with tons of ton of miles on it because in order live in area with good schools, I can’t afford a nice one. I’m forced to chose what’s more important. I don’t expect to own a house but I should be able to rent something nice in my area for a decent price. Rental prices here have gone up probably 30% in the last 3-4 yrs. My rent went up $250/mo since 2019. It will never go down. Even if the housing market gets good, landlords won’t drop rent prices. Until you move out and they can’t find someone else to pay it.

My parents came from a beautiful place in Laos. Here I am in America. Everyday I go to work and the bus and streets smell like shit and piss. It’s dirty. The cost of living continues to increase. A lot of people are struggling to get by but somehow we spend billions on weapons and war and what else. We pay the government to continue to enslave us.

Stating the facts is not being defeatist. You have to know the odds you are up against. I do not follow the tiktok complainers but many can see that the challenges facing people these days are more severe than ever. You can still get rich but you have to work much harder than your grandparents and parents did.

My wife and I are trying to buy a piece of land in town to open a business. It’s half a million for an acre. We live in a shit-hole small town in rural Oklahoma. We bring in maybe $150k a year combined. Yes. The American dream is dead. There’s no way to buy into the market now unless you’re already rich. The rich continue to get richer and the middle class keeps getting poorer. Something’s gotta give.

Constitutional Rights, as identified by adults, are predicated on the assumption that some things are not fair. If you think everything's fair all the time, or that it's childish to notice when it's unfair, then kindly go back to Iran forever. That's fair of me to say, right?

What is the American dream? The American dream is for the average worker to be able to enjoy a middle class lifestyle. What is a middle class lifestyle? A middle class lifestyle is being able to afford a house in the suburbs, raise a family (2 kids), being able to go on a vacation once every two years, and having decent health/dental insurance-and thus not having your stomach tied up in knots every time you get a routine physical or go to the dentist. In short, we want the lifestyle that our parents and grandparents had. That lifestyle is dead. You all keep saying we need to redefine the American dream for us. We did! You guys just don't like the answer.

4 individuals out of touch with reality. If you not born in a rich family your life in America will be tough. Jobs being shipped overseas which drives down wages. Companies want to pay third world wages but charge first world prices. That is the problem. Its over for the average American. Its best to leave the USA and move to a lower cost country.

Rent is 2600, lowest 1900 in NJ. Its expensive as hell. Barley, any good jobs out there, let alone a decent job to afford an apartment at 1900 to 2600 for 1 bedroom. Cant afford homes because they are 400,000 or more at 8 percent interest. No matter how over quilified we are for jobs, we dont get jobs, we get overworked if we even got a job and underpaid. We can get fired for any reason at any time, no security, no matter how great you are at your job. You're just an expense at one point. People out here have to move back to their parents because they can't afford things. It's inflation out the ass. What opportunities do we really get. We keep pushing forward to get smacked right back down. It's not easy like that out there. People have to work 2 low paying jobs or more to make ends meet. People who have over a decade and a half of experience and success aren't getting jobs. We have to resort to door dash, uber, lyft. It's not like we are sitting on our asses. We work a 3 man job then get kicked to the curb. There is no long term with corporations. Respectfully, I have a difference of opinion. Understand we get screwed out of pay too. So much bias clicks etc. Bust our ass to get no advancement. People go back to college to get more certificates ans degrees and still its rough. I agree voting is key that's why I voted for Trump for better jobs and tax cuts, safer living. Still it goes further so many states have corrupt individuals, the government is in trillions of dollars of debt and still we have an economy that can never be even stable for a decade. For years corporations have been getting away with paying less and getting more out of an employees then kicking them out. Its very hard to achieve the american dream. A house picketed fence. Living good to put money away to save invest and have a family. Take care of your loved ones. Enjoy vacations, etc. I will keep pushing like the rest of my Gen its been like this all our lives. 2008 crash, bidenflation now.
