It's Not KESHI, It Has to Be MESSI! - Huddersfield Town v Birmingham City Post Match Reflection

Birmingham City took another giant stride to gaining an immediate return to the EFL Championship with a fantastic 1-0 away win at promotion rivals Huddersfield Town. The win comes on the back of good point away at another promotion rival Wrexham, a few days earlier and puts the Blues in a fantastic position at the top of the table and eight points clear of third place Wrexham with two games in hand. Huddersfield fans will be disappointed with the lack of goal scoring opportunities in the match but once again the Blues players must take a huge amount of credit for their hard work and pressing when they were out of possession.

Davies is the best and my favourite manager in my lifetime ive seen down at blues. His passion on the sidelines is unmatched and his reactions are funny. I love him and how hes changed the mentality of the club and players and how quickly hes integrated a complete squad overhaul and the complete style change to what we have had. Davies deserves much more credit than he gets imho. Hes been a breath of fresh air and how quickly our team adapted top class.

Keshi has been such a good player this season. Arguably our best player this season. Defence was immense again doesnt let anyone past. Allsop is class and his distribution is on another level. 4 points from last 2 gsmes is unreal. Our defence will win us this league. Cochrane and laird outrageous fullbacks for this division. Klarer and Davies are 2 brick walls. Just hope iwata isnt injured for a long time that tackle was an absolute disgrace.

Thought we looked a bit jaded at times but never in any trouble - ref and linesmen were absolutely awful all game for both teams, one of the worst ones (bar the Hogg challenge) was when the lineswoman gave us a throw in when the ball clearly came off Laird last and the Huddersfield fans were fuming. The sooner we get out of this division the better because those officials had and will continue to have stinkers!

What a great result. I think this week was always going to be a big one in defining our season, playing 3rd and 4th place. To come out with 4 points and other teams around us dropping points leaves us in a brilliant position. If we can win our games in hand we could go 14 points clear of the playoff teams, a gap I think other teams will struggle to close. Agree entirely about the Iwata challenge, something needs to be done, it was disgraceful. I also don’t understand why we sing the Cardiff song and haven’t just changed the lyrics (maybe it’s nostalgic). We looked like we had a better balance in the team last night but still sloppy at times (no complaints) What a rocket from Keshi 💙

Huddersfield here again. Our manager is saying it was a close game between two good sides separated by a moment of class. What game was he watching? Birmingham were a class above and we only kept in the game through a superhuman level of physical effort.

Nice analysis as always lads! My dad used to sing that Cardiff song when I was growing up and he went to the final. Few things I noticed about the balance of the team was when laird went forward, TGH covered the RB spot brilliantly. Keshi was outstanding as always and that goal wow! I was at work at the time and I jumped out my seat and my dinner went everywhere 😂 Hoping for Iwata not to be serious! he is brilliant as always. For me it's nice to beat Huddersfield as my mums side are all from Huddersfield and my friends are town fans, so it's nice to get a 6 pointer over them. As always KRO 💙

Our defence now are proving to be at a very good Championship standard now at the very least, it's there for all to see and proved in the stats. We're approached differently in play from every other team in the league tactically on that basis. It's lead to the fact we hardly concede especially at home. I'm a big believer in Blues building on great or solid keepers throughout our history and we're blessed to have Gil Merrick with us every home game..that was one great move renaming that stand during some dark days. Majority of next 6/7 matches now at home so what a great position we've put ourselves in..full credit. KRO

Hi both. A great analysis of Blues performance in 1st and second halves. Enjoyable.. have you noticed that a few of the lower half teams have really been upping their game.. Stansfield works so hard, it's vital he gets regular service , so he can take chances that's offered. Dykes was good again. I wouldn't be surprised to see a striker come in. That would be helpful. Poor Iwata !!. He was running the show single handed, now i think he's out for most of the remainder of games. Thank you.

Thanks for the pod again boys. I’m also an ex referee. Unfortunately the ref booked Hogg so therefore saw the challenge. The Fa law makers say that it cannot go to a retrospective. You cant re referee a match or incident. However there is a hope that justice could be served. The FA could force the referee to look at it again if they feel it was such a bad / wrong decision. My view? Don’t hold your breath. He was so close to the incident, I just can’t fathom his choice of the yellow card. I’d be interested to see if he gets a game this weekend. KRO.

Good Stuff lads....certainly took that 4 points from last 2 games. Solid defensively, agree going forward we just lacked that decisive pass, killer touch otherwise the game would have been over in the first half, but as you say it will come. Then Keshi strikes ...and oh what a goal, great technique to control it then subtle dummy and on the volley..wow!...Feel for Iwata just think he is a pivotal axis that links defence to attack, moves the ball positively, it looks like a season ender, hope not? ....how it wasnt a RED card i dont know, shocking decision. In a great position now going into a tough February 5 league games and at least 2 cup games (hopefully a 3rd) before home game V Wycombe on 1st March....KRO onwards and upwards...

I didn't think our midfield control was as good as it has been but a great result. I may be going against most fans but if Chris Davies does go for just one or other between Alfie & Stanno I would prefer him to start Alfie & bring Stanno on later. Just think that Alfie is just better at the moment of being in the right place at the right time, got more experience on where he needs to be as a striker, Stanno still learning the trade. Although I am a bit happier with Dykes I am still not sold on him, doesn't for me seem to hold on to the ball enough which I assume he is in to do. Anyway my thoughts, ready to be shot at. Certainly Hogg should have had an early bath for the tackle in my opinion. Thanks again for another great podcast. KRO.

We need to start describing Ryan Alsop as Glen Hoddle with gloves. Absolutely disgusting tackle by Hogg not punished by a cowardly referee. A fantastic strike by Keshi. It cannot be difficult for a fantastic athlete like Laird to practice, for say an hour a day, to sprint from say ten yards outside the area and practice crossing at the perfect height into the perfect position past some training dummies until it is absolutely second nature. As you point out the Exeter and Wrexham games were very physical and once again we had a number of bad tackles against us against Huddersfield. To be honest we’ve stood up well to these types of teams but referees need to be more consistent when players go flying in or try to injure our players. KRO!

Great goal and awesome win. Think in the first 20 - 30 mins we take too many touches per player and not moving the ball quick enough. Felt like we was struggling in the final third but Huddersfield have got a good defence at home. The tackle was disgusting Birmingham need to start pushing on refs and EFL on this it is a joke. Once they realised they couldn't touch us they just started to try and hurt players it's got to stop. Hope he is not out for long or serious damage.

Just think a few seasons back we conceded 70 goals. I think Sanderson has played his last game for us. When Neumann comes in I do wonder what the future holds for Bielik. We definitely need to sign both Ben Davies and Taylor Gardner Hickman. Let's hope Iwata has escaped a serious injury. I totally agree that was a straight red. Hi both. A great play on words for the title of tonights cast. Who's idea was it? I saw Keshi's goal on tv and what an amazing one it was. Blues never really lost control of the game. The only slight hitch was that Wycombe won in exra time. Still 2 points clear. Hogg should have definitely been sent off. I agree with you and other fans that the standard of refereeing in this league is woeful. It might be a bit of an unpopular opinion but provided Stoke actually bid silly money, I am not that fussed about Bielik leaving. Yes, he is a leader but so is Klarer. Neumann is coming in. I'd be okay with it. On another note....THAT goal. My oh my.... 😍

100% agree with that opinion. I said at the start of the season Bielik isn't a captain. He was moved out to right back to make way for Davies (rightly so) and he's playing second fiddle to Laird for the right back spot as it currently stands. I would happily take a decent offer for Bielik. Especially with Neumann arriving in the summer and I really hope that we sign Davies on a permanent basis. As for the goal by Keshi Anderson. A goal worthy of winning any game. A moment of real quality. Anderson has been outstanding this season. It's great to have him back. We'd missed him. He's continuing to silence his critics and doubters by doing all of his talking on the pitch and being very charismatic and engaging in his post match interviews. KRO 💙

Stansfield not worthy of his place in the team at the moment, producing virtually nothing going forward and doesn't close down anywhere near as effectively as Alfie for me either. Looks 70% fit at best. Also wish Sampsted would get a go at RB, I know Laird gets into some great positions but his end product vastly needs improving. You can see when Sampsted plays he has far more quality on the ball. Obviously we don't see them in training but I feel so sorry for Sampsted, it's been pretty much a total waste of his time moving over here.

He is clearly a quality player and I’m sure we will see the best of him again soon. It's strange Blues are playing average at best, total uninspiring, poor forward play, no flair just 100% grit and determination. yet we are top of table with a record points haul it's a strange one. All I can think is the standard in Div 1 is awful

Are you actually serious John? Have you seen the images of the Iwata challenge and not just going on what you saw at the game? It was horrendous and could have broken his leg. The others aren't even comparable to that.

If you think you can defend that tackle mate, you should probably try watching a different sport. Iwata is a wonderful footballer, and he could easily have had his career ended by that "tackle". 🤡
