The PCMR crowd needs to realize that they're not the majority when it comes to how PC users think about computers. I learned that when I sold computers for a few years and saw how much people wanted run away from the conversation if it got any more complicated than asking about the few programs they used (which 90% of them would tell you "I'm not a gamer" to avoid being sold high end). The majority does not have the patience to learn Linux. They barely have the patience for Mac OS which is likely only gaining ground because of Microsoft pissing people off.

@@BrunodeSouzaLino The issue comes more from app usage than anything else. The majority that fall into the category being mentioned are the general office workers, this could be anyone from lawyers, traders, secretaries etc. The thing that comes from this is shared programs. Most offices still explicitly work within Microsoft programs. Recently it has became easier to transfer across to mac with a lot of the programs as they have been made available on mac including excel and other common office programs. This has helped boost the transfer to mac but that just isn't as easy in Linux, as this would require going into virtual machines and compatibility layers that the majority of PC users have no interest in doing as they want something that just works out of the box.

They are of the highest end chips not the 13800k and 14800k and below. So the motherboards are just pushing to far with how fast the chips can go. Most likely the Ultra 200 / 16th gen will have chip level limits onto how far it can go instead of relying on motherboards to determine it for the chip. To stop this from happening. The Ultra 100 is already in preproduction so to far along to change anything major like that at chip level. AMD kind of did the same to their chips already, IBM has with their chips and Apple has with theirs, etc. etc. it is a common practice for CPU designers to do. Intel just needs a much more stricter version inside their chip than what they have right not to prevent this from happening is all. The version right now is a thermal run away prevention control circuit. That is short has 2 settings is it above whatever heat or below it? All the others are in the microcode and CPU power specs for the motherboard manufacture to put in place.

Yea 100% intel CPU problem is Intel CPU problem. I'm one of those weird people that loves AMD & Intel equally (especially the competition because it's a win for us). AMD had similar issues when they used to send their CPUs SCREAMIING to keep up with Intel and had all sorts of issues from that. Intel's doing the same thing to try to match the competition in speed even though they're losing the power war by a LOT.

I have noticed 2y ago that the Vcore set from my asrock mobo for the 12600k was quite high, nothing crazy, but I managed to bring it down of 140mv without loosing any performance (-140mv is kinda crazy if you ask me). In itself, the cpu at stock settings was scoring about 18.2k in R23 while consuming 180W, now it reaches the same score at 115W. It is then my opinion that these cpus can actually be quite efficient, but sometimes mobo manufacturers are forcing so high voltages that consumers than think the cpu is trash

@@mastroitekyou have a great gold cpu for undervolting, i do think they could do a undervolt but they need to guarantee the performace so yeah, they cant just start undervolting and selling "different cpus everytime you buy it"
@mastroitek
@mastroitek Ай бұрын
@@logk I agree with the fact that they cant just start doing stock UV on cpus, but I believe these voltages are to high. The major problem I think is that my mobo by default set a 180W power limit, while intel says 150W, and by doing that they also push voltages higher. I am not entirely sure I have a golden sample, at the moment my vcore under an all core workload sits at 1.11 which considered my current clocks seems to be more or less in line with what other users report online. Initially I used to see spikes (during all core) at 1.31V (180W), 1.27 (150W) and with 'no power limit' the mobo was pushing 1.36V trying to sustain 4.9Ghz on all core while consuming 220W. Pure insanity. As you can see with the default 180w profile the vcore with stock curve is 40mv higher than with a 150W (intel suggested) power limit, this for 100Mhz more, not worth it, and it is not clear to me why manufacturers do this.

You can get more overall performance by undervolting the CPU and running at stock clock speeds. If it runs cooler it can run the CPU cores at the boost rate for longer and in some cases like the i-5 13600k it can actually lower the temps to where it can run at the boost clocks on all cores full time without ever reaching the TDP of the chip. Specifically an I-5 13600k can run at around 150W on Cinebench R23 with turbo boost on all cores and if you have a decent tower cooler it can basically do this forever without the temps ever exceeding 85 degrees or so.

So here is to hoping that the 2 "Ultra low power cores" are not the cores used for the NPU while not taking away from what little they actually gave to the NPU so far. What will the avg. consumer use it for? Well unless you have windows then i guess you will not use it as it is a part Microsoft requested made into hardware.

That car is vaporware no way is that piece of crap gonna charge at any reasonable rate with those solar panels look at how slow ev battery charging is and somehow that thing has batteries large enough for 400 miles per charge....
@blisphul8084
@blisphul8084 Ай бұрын
I think the idea is focusing on aerodynamics. Sure there's a smaller battery, but it means that smaller battery can go farther and the trickle charge from solar can actually get you your full work commute.

@aeidengtfo6758 Ай бұрын
Like the 1000 miles version unless it's twice the size is still only getting 40 miles of charge according to their stats that's not even 10% so we've got solar panels adding weight to it and they won't even provide a substantial amount of a charge on a daily basis on perfect conditions. How heavy are the batteries on the 1k miles edition... 🤔 don't worry the aerodynamics will solve everything.

@@aeidengtfo6758 The 1000 mile battery pack is only 100kwh, which many EVs already use today. Their claimed efficiency of 10miles per kwh is how they're expecting to hit 1,000 miles of range. Right now their 400mi prototype is sitting barely above 2,000lbs which is already extremely light for an EV, so I estimate their 1000mi option will be around 3,000lbs with that battery. The 40mi per day charging is SOLAR charging, and is just an extra thing, the point of the car isn't that it's a Solar car, that's just for marketing, the point of the car is that it's so efficient that solar charging is actually an option. The car will still charge at 400mi per hour, and that's not even fast charging, that's like level 2 charging, which is still faster than practically any other EV out there. Seriously do your research before spitting radioactive diarrhea in a comment section and hitting the post button.

Agreed with Linux comments of not being ready. If you have ever seen the videos of the Linux conference with the leaders of the community they admit they delibrately sabotage efforts to make the distro as a competitor to MS or Apple. They are essentially programmers who run the organisation and accept that if it was good enough for general use then big companies would take over and it would become another money making closed system - remember Chrome / Android is Linux based

She had to hop on there did all of her business using Google Chrome as usual and asked me "what theme is this? I like it a lot!" Seeing as I can install the same version of Photoshop she uses and she can get Gimp and escape down if she just put a few months into it I can assure you that anyone with half a brain and any intuition when it comes to technology will be absolutely fine using modern Linux desktop

I understand that you guys think that most people can't handle basic operations of an OS But think critically, the people that call you are the ones having a problem. Not everyone is calling every day, right? You're experiencing what is essentially inverse survivorship bias All the people that reach out to you have problems. The people that don't are probably just fine I worked IT as well, so I get it It would be like working in a coffee shop and saying that every customer seems to be unable to start their day without coffee. Of course, it's a coffee shop, what would I expect?

Lol Intels voltage and power comeback is exactly what I said. I booted an LGA 1700 system and the BIOS first thing asked me if I was water cooling. I don't, but I do use the huge tower coolers (140mm or dual 120mm), so I sometimes have it set around a low end water cooler in BIOS. Also when BIOS defaults to 4,096 Amps/Watts then Windows will never slow the CPU, when idle its still going 5ghz or whatever. Go in BIOS and set something reasonable, 300-400-500watts.

To Brett's point. If they don't completely lock down the power settings this will continue to be a problem. And reviewers like Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed fix those settings to AMD/Intel guidelines so they can actually compare apples to apples.

First time watcher. I don't think that "regular people" (for whatever that means) are installing Linux. But regular people aren't installing anything at the operating system level. But are regular people buying Linux based machines? I'd argue people buying steam decks aren't by and large Linux geeks. Many probably are, but most probably just saw a nice device that plays most PC games. The potential for Linux to succeed won't be because regular people are convinced to install it. It will happen if something that happens to run Linux is a viable product where they're shopping for a computer. The leaps and bounds put into making Linux be able to run anything that Windows can run may convince system builders that its worth cutting out Microsoft if their users won't notice or care.

I have dailied desktop Linux before and after proton and the difference is night and day

They said on full charge it can go 1,000 mi which is BS. Put a fat person with AC and let's see if it makes it 100 miles. In US if that car fails safety standards then it won't be launching.
