Omg! Yes! My last job last year ended and I was looking before the job closed and i did and I only applied to two jobs and the last year and one didn’t reply back or I got an interview and didn’t get the job. Now am I financially stable? yes because I do get disability benefits. Plus I would be looking for a part time anyways because I don’t want to lose my benefits just in case. Plus I had bad experiences at my last job so that’s probably a factor why I am not actively looking. I am more happy unemployed then I was employed.

There are SO MANY fake job listings right now - and there are so many repeat job listings. Positions posted by the company, and then reposted by temp agencies trying to fill those roles. I've been searching since Sept 2023 (layoff) and its been rough and every day I have to give myself similar pep talks. This video is extremely well-timed, thank you.

I’ve noticed the same here in Ireland. Same jobs posted over and over. Wasted my time over weeks prepping for hours for 5 rounds of interviews. 2 rounds were business cases. By the 5th one I was exhausted. Glad I was rejected. Rather than being disappointed I am now glad about every rejection, always feels like I dodged a bullet.

I lost my executive job end of 2022...As of today I'm 110 applications done, 3 interviews, 1 unacceptable offer. Ran into many junk jobs, scams, and sales pitches for career courses on some of these applications done. I'm 50, so its even harder for us as we're looked at as "untrainable" or over qualified. We had to sell our home and now live in an RV. Just know GenX like me some of us are hurting too, it's not all Millennials and Gen Z. This isn't my first experience of this, I was laid off in 2008, and now going through it all over again. After all these years I am finding most careers and corporate life and its fickle culture unfulfilling. It seems I have always been sacrificing for someone else to benefit, now I feel like it needs to be my turn.

Oh yeah I have gotten interviews but I'd say 99% of them are phone screen even though I explain clearly what type of position I am seeking, multiple interview rounds (my last one was 5 and required me to travel 30 minutes each time because they don't know how to use Zoom), and there is a technical assessment but I was eliminated before that. I am sick of it. I had a contract drawn up by a friend who is an attorney that when they reach out, I tell them what I am seeking and if they want to move forward, I charge a $50/hr 'consulting' fee for any further work which I describe as emails, phone calls, interviews, travel, assessments/assignments and if I have to stay overnight or buy lunch they agree to comp me for it. I have had a couple agree to it but my skills are fairly in-demand. I encourage everyone to do this and make it the norm for skilled positions as I am sick of employers abusing people and acting like they have all the power.

Fellow gen x here. Had an amazing career in Finance and was lucky to survive 2008. I took a break after I had my daughter. I still worked (for free) helping out my husband’s family‘s business and now juggle two freelance jobs (barely- adding up to anything). Despite 15 years of work experience, I have only gotten entry level interviews paying little over the minimum wage. After 3-5 rounds of interviews, successful assessments and case studies I’ve never received an offer since I started trying last year. Also, with minimum wage and my two side jobs I still can’t afford rent in Dublin. I’ve been considering an RV, too. All the best to you!

I am in my 40's, have been layed off 5 times in my career so far. The crazy thing is that this time is much much much difficult to find a job that matches my level or even lower level. 1. too much fake job posting 2. the video interview span for 4-6 weeks too long and really stressful , anyone think i am old (40) will say no and no result.

when times are hard, and the longer you are on the job market, you will certainly feel desperate to get any job. I did the same, I was impatient and accepted a job I thought would be easy bc I just wanted to be employed. But only THREE days into the job I realised what a completely wrong fit it was and I knew I'd be miserable if I kept up with it. I had to quit and then it was back in the unemployment arena. It's been almost 9 months but I'm def more picky and want to get a job that won't mentally wreck me. I'm one of the lucky ones that I can wait and be unemployed for a longer period, but if you're in a tight spot and need any job, I hope that you find something good!

I totally relate to this! I took a job that seemed great on paper, but definitely had red flags that I brushed off. I was soo desperate to get out of my unemployment hole, but long story short, the job was not a fit and took a huge toll on my mental (and even physical) health. It's scary to take a risk to leave a job considering not only this terrible job market, but also starting over again in your search. BUT because of that experience, I am too being picky/selective and extremely cautious of red flags! I'm now protective over my mental health and work-life balance, as everyone should be. I'm so proud of you prioritizing yourself and wellbeing! Thank you for sharing your experience and sending love your way!

I did that also, unemployment ran out after a contract job ended and I was desperate, so I accepted a customer service position. I applied for an accounting position and a recruiter reached out and asked if would interview for customer service in the same company, 100% remote, and I could apply for other positions after six months. I knew it would be longer than six months but that was fine, so I accepted the position. Now two years later I find out that customer service management doesn’t let their employees move to other departments, and will do anything to keep them, including sabotaging them by bad mouthing them, and placing them into ‘performance management.’ Being remote I didn’t know about this, I saw reviews on Indeed and Glassdoor from employees who had experienced it. I’ve never seen this before, I’m over it all, done with the drama, so I decided to retire next year and am counting down! I’ll be preparing all year so I’m ready.

I graduated last December and still haven't been able to get my foot through the door. Thankfully, I have a support system to where I dont have to immediately find just anything, but it is just extremely discouraging not being able to start living the life I want to live and the constant anxiety of the longer I'm unemployed the harder it will be to find something. Not to mention comparing myself to friends who are doing better. I am of course so happy for them and proud, but I also can't help but feel left behind. Just the other day I had a huge breakdown home alone because I'm on month 4 and just feel helpless. This video was very peaceful. Though our situations aren't exactly same, it was still very relatable 🩷. Thank you 💕✨️!

I've been there! It's scary to feel left behind or even starting over in your career. But your time will come! I'm 100% sure of it. There's soo much self discovery and lessons to be learned during a job search/unemployment. This time is perfect to reflect on what makes you you, and what brings you joy, career aside. And as someone who struggles with imposter syndrome, one of my favorite quotes is "comparison is the thief of joy". Keep focusing on and appreciating YOU. I'm rooting for you

I got fired in September 2022 from a 7 year banking career. At this point I had been studying computer science part time at a local institute of technology for almost 2 years. So I doubled up on the course load and amassed a tremendous amount of knowledge. I also worked out every morning, ate healthy, and blocked off time during the day to apply for jobs. Completing multiple CS programs built up my confidence because I obtained new software development skills and knowledge, even if I was unemployed. The software developer job market right now is hard, but objectively speaking, I am more valuable than I was before because I now have more tradeable and marketable hard and soft skills.

I remember just a few years ago (when I had even less experience), it was SO much easier, or you could at least actually get interviews back then!! It's crickets right now. Yes I do hope there's a shift soon, although on the bright side, with the time being unemployed it 's helped me begin a new side hustle and I'm so grateful for it, because now it's actually starting to pay off (and cover my rent). There really are so many lessons to be learnt being unemployed. Subbed :)

Thank you for this video. We're on this journey together (also 30). I'm in a similar situation where I have also had unemployment periods and I feel embarrassed to have a Linkedin, as well as connecting with people. IDK how to put myself out there when I'm embarassed. It just feels like I'm expected to have a perfect resume and perfect job history.

Networking is still something i'm struggling with! At times it can feel transactional, or feel like you're groveling. But I've also realized that being unemployed is waaaay more common, and more times than not, people in your network have been there before. Hang in there and give yourself a pat on the back! this video brought me so much comfort as someone who got laid off a few months ago❤ I've been getting desperate to take any job at this point, and its infuriating how I've been ghosted, rejected, and a few times got an offer thats "unpaid", as someone who has had 4+ years of specialized experience in tech, I thought it wouldn't be so hard but it has been. since my situation at home isn't great, I'm just being so hard on myself, that I CRY everyday, this video came on my feed after I literally had a headache from crying so much, I just want to live on my own and have a job but its been hard to say the least, but watching this video I felt a sigh of relief, this was really validating and something I needed today so thank you, and good luck for all of us job searching, I hope whatever is best aligns soon ❤

I feel you! It's hard not to be hard on yourself when it feels like it's your fault, I've applied to over 70 jobs, only got a callback from 3 and just 1 interview, that I had today and I passed the next round! I feel so grateful becaus I have learned so much during the months that I've been out of a job and in all honestly I kinda needed the break, one of the hardest parts is to not feel guilty because I was relieved(? like huh that's weird, but honestly I'm excited because this position is a substancial salary increase for me and I have weeded out of offers that are not as good solely because I'm desperate. Also I'm fortunate enough that I can live with my parents because heaven knows what would be of me if not, fortunately latino parents always want you in their house so it's not expected to move, so I can actually save up if (when) I get this new job and create financial security for myself, so I am grateful.

Over the course of last year and recent months I've had about over 20 interviews but still couldn't land a job. Why is job searching so hard for a recent college graduate these days? do you have any suggestions people?

@@keithparker1346 depends on your level of experience tho. When I had no experience, you bet I definitely put I freelanced for a few years. Also what helped is I did some independent projects with a professor to say I worked at the school too. Make projects and try to sell your experience is the best advice. I have no connections. Just have to grind and get lucky to land something like I did with my first job.

I'm also on my third time being unemployed and I'm also 30. I have found this time around to be much harder than previous times and that is with getting more job interviews than ever before. I am fully aware that getting 1st or 2nd job interviews is better than others who are getting ignored. But it is also harder because you get more hope that this will be the one that likes you and you can start earning again. I've been unemployed for 7 months now, and if I hadn't done any job applications and just focused on learning new skills (work or hobbies) I would have way more to show for it than I have had with applying for jobs. I'm thinking of changing careers, I'm looking at apprenticeships just so I can get experience but I know I do not like merely working in digital space as in emails, I need to be physically doing tasks, not just organising. Any carpenters, manufacturing people, upholsters, horticulturists, lab technicians about to offer help, or advise to someone looking to change but with no idea where to start.

I have always worked 2 fulltime jobs. I was laid off in December as a contractor for Google after spending 4 years there with a team. We were outsourced and our jobs went to another country which we trained them before getting sacked. I already knew this was going to happen. But my 6months of EDD is about to dry up in the next two months. I have been applying for any fulltime or part time job in my respective fields and cannot get anywhere. I think im about 400-600 applications in and im either ghosted or receive a rejection letter. Out of those i only received maybe 3-4 interviews. Its also hard because my other job as a mechanic at a Ford dealership the tine schedule is hard to work around. I have a background in automotive/medical and IT. I even searched for night shift mechanic positions and hospital jobs and both are heavily impacted with competition. The whole job market is terrible. I am one in millions looking for a job. Shits not even hitting the fan yet and look at the state we are all in.
