You have to appreciate how the binary genders are represented by animals (bunnies and cats) and not robots & princess dolls or some other weird male/female stereotype. It helps get the point across way better than distracting us from what “should” or “shouldn’t” masculinity/femininity look like. Even then, the animals chosen are both congruent in such a way that neither one is more “stronger” or “submissive” than the other, they both have equal strengths. This, to me, is what drives the main character’s hatred towards themselves home because they understand both are equal, yet they still feel in their heart that they’re something they’re not/something opposite of what society assigned them to be. Thank you for this beautiful symbolism zemyata

Pluss the changing of the colors and bow placements on the cat and bunny icons, i feel plays a part in the confusion and inner battle of figuring out if your really trans or not (i had that struggle myself a while back before i figured out i was gender fluid) Or it could represent the battle of wanting to go through with fully transitioning or not, either way its a very small detail that really drives the video home for me.

The cat has the heart of a rabbit, they are rejected for this. I was having signs throughout the video but the ending with the flag confirms it: a metaphor(? I do not know the word) for being trans. They are trying to figure out their identity and identify themselves in the end how they desire, destroying burning up societies cares (the TVs being the society and expectations). I am trans myself, being misunderstood hurts, it can depress you just like how this character is, and in the end I figure they burn everything up, the frustrations, and decide to live how they like? I am so happy to have this from my biggest inspiration. Your works always bring out the best emotions, I cannot elaborate how thrilled I am, thank you for this animation, you are wonderful.

Imo I think this song talks about jealously. I get jealous, a lot, and I am well aware of it, most of the time I just try to hold down this jealously bc I know it's bad. But sometimes I get jealous to the point that i had to grit my teeth and destroy things to feel better bc I have no one to express my thoughts. But yeah, that's just my interpretation on this song, since it's called "It's okay to envy". Everyone can interpret this song in their own way. Also, since you say that it's about trans... In my opinion, the cat is supposed to be a rabbit but they're assigned as a cat in the end, and they feel jealous of the other rabbits as it cannot break free of this false body of its.

As a nonbinary trans person, I literally can't stop watching this. It's almost inspiring, in a weird way? Seeing my struggle on display here makes me want to be myself more, bc I have been really suppressing it. I do appreciate how many ways the video can be interpretated as well, and how it isn't exclusively for a specific type of trans person and nothing else. Not just nonbinary, not just binary, but lots of different types of trans people probably can relate to this. Definitely worth the wait!

What does "nonbinary trans" mean? Isn't being trans having a body of one sex and brain of the other? How can one be trans, if they don't have brain sex? I'm really curious
@exealtiora3 жыл бұрын
@@patimat4700 Transgender is defined as feeling a different gender than the one you were assigned at birth, not necessarily about feeling one sex or the other. Since non-binary falls under feeling a different gender than ones assigned gender at birth, they are a non-binary trans person I’m not the best at explaining, sorry if this is confusing :’]
@patimat47003 жыл бұрын
@@exealtiora So a nonbinary person is by definition trans. Well, thank you :)
@horlzonline11313 жыл бұрын
@@patimat4700 Sorry I didn't respond to this sooner, but the last person got it right! Gender identity and sex are very different, so whether you're trans or not isn't really defined by what sex you'd prefer -- even if some trans people do indeed desire to medically transition, rather than just socially. The white in the trans flag actually is for NB people, believe it or not, (as well as intersex and transitioning people too)! ^^ For the record though, nonbinary doesn't necessarily mean "neutral" or "nothing" either, in case that was the impression. That would be agender, one of many nonbinary identities. I'm nonbinary, but mostly prefer to look masculine, and even use masculine (or neutral) pronouns despite being born female! I just don't think a "male" label wholly fits me, even if it's closer to describing me than "female". So, for me specifically, I'm kind of a unique mix of both! It's a deep down emotional feeling for me, just like how someone who was born cis (identifying as their defined gender at birth) simply "knows" their gender and would feel odd being referred to otherwise. That's my experience, anyways. Basically, yes, nonbinary people are by definition trans people! The only clarification here is that there's TONS of different types of nonbinary people! All nonbinary means is, well, outside of the gender binary (strictly male or strictly female). So, lots of variety in how people look, act, identify, and decide to transition, (if they decide to -- for many it's a super personal thing)! I cannot speak for every nonbinary person bc of how different everyone is, so if more research interests you I'd listen to many different sources.

an attempt to break down the meaning of this video! - edit: rewatched the video several times and have lots of clarifications to make to my original theory! go down to the bottom to see the updated version - So, it’s a trans allegory. Very overtly. You don’t put a trans flag with a supportive message at the end of something that’s not a supportive trans allegory. Glad we could get this straight. I just wanted to get that out of the way before explaining further. In this universe, being a rabbit corresponds to being male and being a cat corresponds to being female, if you choose to use colors as your baseline. The main character (I’ll be calling him X and using male pronouns for him) has the body of a cat and the heart of a rabbit - a female body and male heart. X is clearly living in distress- the TV screen flickering between the gender symbols represent gender confusion, so he presumably goes to the doctors to find out what’s wrong with him The doctors can clearly see that he has a male heart, but they choose to forge the results and tell him he’s female instead, which throws X into a breakdown over his identity. This is where the video gets difficult to interpret. One can make an argument for the person in the rabbit hoodie (Z) as a good or bad guy. Obviously, they aren’t real, and are simply another facet of X. They’re a rabbit, but their main theme is pink. If you choose to say that they’re female, then the story lines up much more neatly - X literally lights Z on fire and destroys that part of himself. If you interpret them as male, then it becomes more complex. X destroys Z, his male side, and yet still rejects femininity after he comes back to reality. That could be a representation of being non-binary. However, the first option seems most likely to me; he sees Z as a cruel parody of himself, someone who will never be a boy, because no matter how much they pretend to be a rabbit, they’re still swathed in pink. Lighting Z on fire represents destroying that part of himself, destroying that shame, and stepping forwards to live as a rabbit and male. Amazing video. -- EDIT AND UPDATE -- After having rewatched the video multiple times, I have some more thoughts to add! At the end, the screen changes between two symbols - the male symbol, and the female symbol wearing a bow tie and colored like the male symbol. My best guess is that the second symbol is meant to represent a trans rabbit, or trans male - blue soul, wearing male clothes, but shaped like a cat. It’s a really nice touch and I love it! The lighter and rabbit ears are recurring motifs. The ears have a pretty clear meaning - a temporary measure X uses to hide their agab, equivalent to binding, packing, tucking, etc. The lighter, however, has lot more possible meanings. X has it for the majority of the video and it’s tangible even in the false world with Z, which leads me to believe it’s meant to represent something. It could be something like self-destructive or other-destructive habits, something lighters are often used to portray, but dysphoria is not so easily beat by that, and it would be rather insensitive to imply it could be. My belief is that it’s supposed to represent gender euphoria. The lighter noticeably is blue and has a male icon on it, the fire it creates is teal, and it burns down a distinctly feminine side of X. This aligns strongly with euphoria and/or the coping mechanisms used to fight dysphoria. The dream of burning everything down is a hope I think is shared by many trans individuals - not literally, of course, but if one could somehow completely destroy their past and the previous self they were told that they were, I doubt many trans people would ignore that chance. It’s a violent ending but it lines up - finally gathering the courage to say “I don’t want to do this anymore” and set it all on fire. We see X retreat from the television to immediately smash it after seeing that Z shares their face. We’re all scared of mirrors here. Seeing someone covered in pink, surrounded by pink, who is clearly still just a cat pretending to be a rabbit, and seeing their own face on that person reflected back at them made X break it. It’s typical to not be able to recognize one’s reflection as belonging to oneself when very dysphoric, and the sudden shock of X realizing that it was their own visage in the television is what made them snap. More support for the fact that X is a trans man- the rabbit with the ears torn off and cat ears stitched in their place. I hardly need to explain this one. There are tons of other little details I could rant about for hours, but I’ll close it off here. This is a lovely video and was a big surprise from one of my longtime favorite animators! Also, despite this channel not expressing support to trans people before now (which is fine, don’t get me wrong), the viewers are taking it very well!! I’ve seen so little hate in the comments :D Also, thank you for making this. It means more to us than you can imagine.

The part about doctors is also a real issue that a lot of trans people face - medical staff may not respect their identity and instead refer to them as their deadname and gender assigned at birth :/

Love this interpretation! My own interpretation about Act II is that it has to do with X finally finding media that shows people like him. There's so many televisions in his room that are always showing the same thing: Rabbits are blue (male) and Cats are pink (female). X is always watching the screens in front of him desperately throughout the first act, as if looking for something that represents him. You can even see soda cans littering the floor in front of the screens! Not to mention, he's putting bunny ears on cat dolls & cat ears on bunny dolls just to be able to see something that even remotely resembles himself But then, in Act II, a television BEHIND him turns on and that's where he sees Z for the first time. X gets 'transported' to the other world but I think this is just a visual metaphor for viewing whatever he's watching and how he's projecting onto it. It seems scary and strange at first, which I think makes complete sense if X is meant to represent someone repressing their LGBT identity and seeing others who are out and proud for the first time. X sees Z, a person amongst this rabbit group who looks almost exactly like him except WAY happier. X seems almost unsure of everything as he comes closer and lifts up Z's rabbit hood, where he can finally see that Z has cat ears just like him. Then it's like BAM -- there's that realization that everything X was told is wrong. We switch to the real world where X is smashing the other televisions and sets everything on fire. Burning it all away to start anew with the knowledge that it's okay for him to be a rabbit. We see that as he places the rabbit ears back on his head. That's my interpretation of it! LOVED this MV so much omg & love seeing other theories and stuff!!

@@archy2504 That’s a super neat theory too!! We can never know for sure what the original creator intended (unless they tell us, but they have no need to do that) but I’m really glad that lots of people are getting the same message of someone finally accepting themselves for who they are :)

Don't get me wrong. I understand that it's a metaphor for being trans. But i think the way I'm taking it pulls in the lyrics of the song along w/ the mv. The many phrases of jealousy, like "just wanna be cool" "im not crying i just hate me" and "i wanna be you" hit extremely hard, since i've been going through similar feelings. The agitation of the cat says all of this, which leads to the grudge of burning down the room. Act 2 is very dear to me because it finally shows the cat pushing through all the hatred and keeping their eyes on the goal: expressing their true self. This is my comfort video and song. I love it to death.

The way the eyes and heart are blue, the same colour as the rabbit- how in the beginning that blue in the eyes and heart is the only blue in a the whole room covered in pink. The cat stuffies all ripped to shreds. the way in the end they take off their bra. These are just some details I noticed that I didn’t see anyone point out. God, this animation is just so good

this is the most beautiful animation i’ve ever seen dedicated to the Trans community- also i noticed the lil non-binary bear symbol at the end, it made me feel very valid.. even if you don’t know me. thank you for making this, everything from the symbolism to the story progression, it’s all painfully beautiful, i plan on showing this to many of my friends

Thank you, after coming back after watching this for the first time the lyrics and symbols are even more meaningful and thoughtful then before. And id like to think and type about it a little. in the beginning his eyes flash with images of a bunny with a bowtie, and a cat with a bow, but by the end of it the screen flashes with bunnies & bows and cats & bowties, aswell as the bear to represent anyone outside of that, and half cats and half bunnies. Blue, pink, either one. Its extremely meaningful how in the beginning, he hides himself away and says “no, its nothing, i just hate myself.” The ruler on the throne in the next sequence says otherwise, taunting and telling them to “come to me”, to introduce them into the fact that they, themselves, are trans. The bunny presented in pink, but having cat parts underneath, from the symbolism, a feminine trans man. Thanks again, from the trans community I appreciate the such accurate and beautiful representation that doesn’t exclude anyone, and follows the story of one certain trans person. A special thanks to the bunny man in the story, i wish him luck upon his journey.

I absolutely love this! The amount of work put into this is definitely shown! I LOVE HOW BINARY GENDERS ARE REPRESENTED AS ANIMALS. THAT’S SUCH A BRILLIANT IDEA! Your stories and characters are so well designed as well. I’m non-binary and this is so comforting to watch. Plus, can I just say how cool your character is? The design is spectacular! Great work!

I love the deep concept to it so much??? It adds the right amount of struggle but also a lot of understanding to it, it hits so close to home for me cause I've been having issues with this type of thing for a long time and I'm still am ngl so its so refreshing that this animation you made exist to the public and also how you took the time out of your schedule to created this and to really break it down smoothly so its very digestible to viewers The bunny and cat concept was so very enjoyable I can really tell that neither species are superior to each other, more or less that its a mutual struggle and pull and the ending was so adorable!! 😭😭😭 I sincerely hope this gets popular so it can spread more awareness to others that have gender issues everyday and to whoever reads this I also sincerely hope you have wonderful friends that support you wholeheartedly and be there for you in your hard days ! 💜💜💜💜
