Damon. Tell Alex to change all the wheel sensors. All four wheels. Like 150$ I guess and with a little luck everything is fixed. If one sends wrong info the gearbox computer goes nuts.

I honestly think it has nothing to do with the transmission, the way the issue occurs like Damon explained its only happening when slowing down and downshifting into 3rd gear or lower, IMO I think it could be something like a wheel or speed sensor that is tripping out the gearbox. The amount of times Damon did donuts in that thing, he might of done one too many and could of easily done damage to the wheel sensors or even the differential and possibly thats making the gearbox act up which is then causing the gearbox ECU to trip out.

You aren't completely correct with Damon's diagnosis. The car would have issues when having to drive slow in traffic after the car was up to running temp. I would say the issue has something to do with the trans cooler. It sounds like it runs fine as long as it has airflow to keep the temps under control but when driving in traffic if the cooling system I not operating properly then it could cause the trans to over heat and start having issues. When hydraulic fluid gets too hot it's tops doing what it's supposed to be doing.

Want to fix the Svj, i hope you read this 1. you had fluid leak in the gearbox its a common problem not with all but most, you replaced the box 2. when you open the door that sound from a pump is actually the E gear priming, you ran the e gear with low fluid which casue it to go into limpo mode aka the low speed which is why it jumps out of gear or none selection of gear, with heat and low fluid that pump is shot, 3. low voltage aka 0.5 volt drop on start up can also cause the limpo mode on the E pump my opinion replace the alternator for a high out put one in, 4, the solenoid connection can also cause the issue to as alex said Lamborghini and Mclaren aka "(McKaren)" share the same manufacturer for making the gear box so the seals going its not a shock, but the E-Gear pump hates Heat and Lack of fluid and voltage drop all of which it suffered on the Gumball Rally sadly yes you need to change more than just a gearbox, The E-pump The Alternator The Solenoid fix which is out there to make a stronger connection

There has to be a speed sensor or something that tells the ecu what speed the car is travelling which helps determine the gear the car should be in. I had a sensor fail on a BMW and as a result, it kept changing gears, even when the car was stationary, like it could never find the right gear. Probably not the same thing, but who knows.

Except when you're manually shifting with the paddles it should go to the next gear regardless..... Also speed sensor issues will throw an ABS light and codes specifically for it, ESPECIALLY with German cars!

The SVJ’s problem has to do with the hydraulics of the transmission since it has a robotised transmission. Alex probably knows more, however this might be the issue. Try looking at the transmission cooling system since it is over heating the oil in the transmission and pump too. Mike Essa did a clever thing and took it for a spin around the block just to make sure everything is dialled in. Keep up the hustle and bustle YSOB’s! DDE ALL THE WAY🏎️🏎️💨💨

my m3 smg was doing pretty much the same thing. i swapped it to a manual so dont know what the actual problem was, but it definitely wasnt the transmission, and i knew that. i figured it had to be some kind of electrical issue. i dont think it was the hydraulic pump, but that could also be something to look at for this car.

Damon, Mike, and Dave. There are 2 mechanical parts involved with the trans on the SVJ....The Transmission and we now know that's not the issues. Then, the other mechanical part is the paddle shifter itself. Pull the steering wheel, and check the shifter. I'll bet you have a short in the shifter or the column itself.

My pop taught me this a long time ago. If it’s not mechanical, it’s electrical. If it’s not electrical, it’s mechanical. So that being said, time to check the ecu, control modules, harness’, and wiggle test connectors. Check for crushed wiring that may have broken wires in the shielding.

Mike Essa- use VCDS and get the cable and use a 3 vin use… it will read the oem ecu. They also can help determine what is causing the faults also thru their tech support.

Its assumed that overheating is causing the Neutral gear issue. But the trans was replaced so we know that is not a factor. Safe to say heat isnt causing a hydraulic or mechanic issue in the trans. Would love to get my hands on the electrical schematic for this car and dive in because it sounds like an electronics issue. If it is software related then why, with the previous trans, did waiting a few mins correct the problem? Damon didnt turn the car completely off and open the door for a "reset". Points to a electronics hardware problem, the best place to start. Intermitant problems are the hardest to troubleshoot, good luck Alex and team.

Hi team. Sorry to give you this suggestion. If you can have a check to electronics of paddle shifter like wires, sensor and all that is connected to the gearbox. I feel like the problem is very small but just because the code reflects under gearbox It will not be anything to do with the gearbox but sole sort of paddle shifters issue. Please consider this also to save our svj ❤️

@@prince7p268 absolutely not. they were planning on getting the svj twin turbo’d and with all due respect, a gt3rs will not be as good sounding as an svj.

@@fludster yes but the Gt3rs still sounds good. Gintani made an exhaust to make it sound like an f1. JCR makes it sound better while retaining that true Porsche flat 6 sound. + if they twin turbo it, then it won’t be that reliable anymore and will use more fuel that’s why they don’t take the 720GTR to gumball.
