The disappointment I’ve had from that announcement is just immense. They tried being to ambitious with something that didn’t need to be that ambitious to begin with. Just a 4v4 basic arena style game with new maps and last of us 2 style gameplay and just evolve it from there especially if they were going live service. Apparently rumors were it was gonna be a BR or extraction shooter when it didn’t need to be that.

Factions was my go to escape when life wasn't going well in high school, this was by far the best multiplayer community and experience and I will forever be sad when I think about the missed opportunity of this game.

Its simplicity was its beauty. At the end of the day the game came down you playing smarter than the other team. Using teamwork and tactics to win. All I ever wanted was a simple, barebones refresh. Sad it was grown to a scale that ended up being unachievable.

There’s no reason to cancel the game If their vision of the game became too ambitious for them to feasibly work on that and they’re single player experiences at the same time, then dial back the ambition and release some thing that isn’t as huge. But to cancel it altogether is really a slap in the face to their huge Factions Fanbase.

Your are not alone, bro. I myself am extremely bummed out too. If I remember correctly I believe I saw another video of yours in the past years ago where you didn't take the revelation that Part II wouldn't release with a Factions mode very lightly either, the feeling was mutual there too. People can make fun of us Factions Fans and we'll be fine (it's all background noise of the Internet) but the fact that we're sad over video games as opposed to some other severe phenomena out there is a testament to how well we have things and that we should not take such luxuries for granted. There's always worse news out there. I'll still remain hopeful, I can only hope whatever money we provide to Sony and Naughty Dog that eventually we get anything to scratch that Factions vibe itch we've been having for ages now (like No Return, non GAAS MP, or Part III even, hell even in-game TLOU cosmetics in other MP games). thank you for BEING THERE Sancho West. I went through some tough times in 2013-2014 and thanks to your youtube videos on TLOU Factions and the game itself, made those dark days a bit brighter. When in darkness, look for the light... and you were shining bright brother for which a whole lotta love and respect! Now I know Naughty Dog knows they made a brilliant single player, I've never before or again played a game that not only captured your mind but your heart aswell. But you can only play a single player so many times. Now Factions, well... 10 years running! Need I say more. No I did not play all those 10 years. But I know people did. What I can say, is that I never before nor after played ANY multiplayer game for more than a few weeks. Factions I played for years. My girlfriend at the time even preferred watching the gameplay over TV or anything else. And thank you Sancho West, for it was the combined experience of that game with all the content you created, the tips&tricks which taught me so much, and of course the Friday Faaaaaaaaaaan Loadout which got me to check the calendar, the ONLY thing that got me to check the calendar and truly the only show I watched as a routine in that time of my life. Yeah this one hurts. Been playing Factions since the PS3 days. I've been watching your videos since 2014 Sancho. This sucks for everyone. There is really nothing like Factions. I love Fortnite, Dead by Daylight, etc because they fulfill a niche. Factions fulfills another niche. Not every game needs to make Fortnite money, not every game CAN make Fortnite money. Sigh. I'm just gonna play factions until the servers close. We really didn't want too much from a sequel, just new maps + guns. We'd all take expansion packs for Factions 1 at this point 🤷‍♀. What annoys me is that a lot of people brushed off Factions 1 and were happy Factions 2 was cancelled. Shame on you all for celebrating a missing feature that we were promised and it was an amazing feature at that. Yes majority of people only played TLOU2 for the story but there was a dedicated community that played Factions on PS3 and PS4. Factions 2 had so much potential to be Playstation's next big multiplayer game and I can guarantee you that the Factions community would have supported the game. We didn't get a MP for TLOU Remake and now they are adding a rogue lite mode in TLOU2 without coop? Cmon man

It's insane that the vibe i got on Twitter after seeing a lot of chatter on The Last of Us Factions was a bit off last night. That feeling of anxiety, that something wasn't right. I waited to read the article from Naughty Dog in order to record my genuine reaction, but knew the news wasn't good. I am still very gutted by this news, dude. I'm heart broken and crushed. I thought this was the opportunity to bring the community back and to have my shot with all the big dogs (you, Nick, Rolando, etc.) Turns out I was wrong, we'll never play it, sadly. I have so much respect for you, Sancho. You've inspired me in so many ways I can't describe. We were ALL there for The Last of Us and its IP. We've spend countless hours on Factions. I just found out that they cancelled The Last Of Us Online / Factions 2. I find it hard to believe that Sony can’t throw more money at Naughty Dog to create a second division to handle JUST THIS GAME. This is really really sad. TLOU faction is easily my most played online PVP game.....beating Halo 3 which is insane in its own right. I could speak at length to my experiences and to why Factions was SO good, at this point the people here already know so it goes without saying. I am extremely disappointed in Naughty Dog for this, definitely the end of this particular style of arena 3rd person shooter. Been playing Factions for the best part of a decade. I would watch Sancho’s Friday Fan Loadouts and try out new things in Supply Raid/Interrogation. I would religiously spend hours just in lobbies playing Factions with friends and just have the best time online. I started my ND multiplayer experience with UC2, hiding in Temple because I couldn't keep up with everyone else. Then UC3 emerged which was amazing fun. The pinnacle was TLOU Factions, playing a strategic MP that focused on more than just how fast your fingers moved. When ND announced that Factions 2 wasn't shipping with TLOU2, I was frustrated and angry. We'd waited so long. TLOU2 made up for that loss but there was still hope and there was still a gap in my gaming. I really thought that they would make it happen. Even in 2020, I wondered how far off Factions 2 could really be if they'd planned to ship it. For it to be canceled is heartwrenching. As you say Sancho, we were there and we're here. We loved that game. All I wanted was a slightly updated version with new maps, controls and maybe a couple of new modes (co-op horde and BR would have been amazing). I wonder if ND let it get too big or they were pressured to go in the GaaS direction. Such a shame and not sure that anything will come close to that Factions vibe.

The new game didn't need live service if the foundations for it were as good as the devs that worked on it say. OG Factions is a testament to that as it's still decently active 10 years later even though the updates for it stopped long ago. Sticking to their guns on what they've done before instead of trying to go with the GaaS trend was the way - it wasn't wrong for them to dream in itself, but now that dream is dead. We'll always respect everything that the devs, and you, did for us.

Sancho what an well worded video! I was waiting for a new factions as a new chance to expierence a multiplayer, just like i did with the first game. The joy i had playing factions and finally making it through those 12 weeks as a hunter and a firefly made one of the most crucial memories i have from the last of us. Naughty Dog said, that the decision had to be made, to become a studio that has life service games or to stay a storytelling studio. Thats not even true. It is that Naughty God had tried in 2019 to create a battle royale instead of an immersive thoughtful multiplayer we were hoping for. To now say, that its about "service games" is kinda unfair. The whole studio needs to be involved to keep this game alive just shows how little of trust they have in their current players, who for years now populate the servers of the original factions to this day without any current support through naughty dog. I read an article couple months ago, where it stated, that naughty dog was heavily inspired by Fortnite. There have been studios who lost games due to the same mistake. "Repeat what is currently succsessful" I hope that on Tlou 3, if there is one, or on their new IP they will go with the past and add a simple multiplayer , which to this day started the very succsessfull and now sad story of factions. I still love naughty dog very much but this tweet is just not enough for a massive let down to the die hard fans of the last of us and the faction multiplayer. Please forgive my english, im from a non english speaking country. :)

Just heard about the cancellation today, TLOU factions was my favorite multiplayer experience when I was younger. There truly was nothing like it. I would've purchased TLOU2 solely for another factions multiplayer, but was disappointed when there was none included. But i have SO many questions man. like, i genuinely don't think anyone expected factions 2 to be getting constant huge updates like gta online or something. we knew that'd cost them too much, and I'm sure they knew as well. so why is it only so far in development that they realized it's not worth it? i think what happened is sony and bungie [with the jason schreier article that came out earlier this year] realizing they can't overmonetize it forever, instead of making it a one time purchase for 60/70$ like perhaps the original idea was. because trying to fit in a battle pass and stuff like that would require constant new content being injected. And it sucks so much man.. Reading the dev's tweets about it, it sounds like they had a genuinely great game on their hands. the first factions was literally THE most fun multiplayer game I've ever played, ever.. I really think we could've had something amazing if sony/bungie would have accepted it as what it is instead of trying to make it fortnite 2 or something. but idk, it's still just a guess, hopefully soon we'll hear more about what was going on behind the scenes. but it's over now. And we were there.. UGGHH I'M GONNA GO CRY NOWW😭

I played factions since day one and im still in denial that its not coming out. Even started playing again last year to start warming up. It's the game that got my wife into gaming and it's still so much fun and sweaty. I know factions 2 was so grimey but im gonna bother them for tlou 3. We can't let it end like this.

The only thing they had to do was remake the original maps and add new ones eventually, add new paid cosmetics, guns, more maps. The original MP is still popular. Someone got greedy and decided it could be bigger. It could turn into the next Fortnight.

What to say.... I feel for the ppl whose hard work will never be seen. I came here bc I knew Sancho would have something to say. I hope that the somber emotion that was presented was and will be countered with the firey "what the f***" that I personally felt...... A 10 year betrayal will be hard to ignore, is all I am saying. Factions is a good time with friends. As someone that LOVES a good PVE and Teamwork based PVP game mode, I was looking forward to this and it's pretty disappointing that it was canceled. Especially after they got our hopes up for it. It's just so disappointing for the Factions community.

Factions was truly a game changer PVP shooter of all time! It's not like Call for duty, Battlefield, Duke nuke 'em that you just run and gun. Who has the better gun or faster reflexes, rather it has strategy involved that is as timeless. It's like the Chess of shooter games. The rest are just checkers. I feel you Sancho west. It's was a privilege to play this awesome game. Your youtube journey with this game was equally superb. Your explanations and tactics are well noted. Still hoping that they may surprise us and continue with the stand alone. Like one the person''s comment.....GTA 6 took 10 years. Maybe Factions 2....maybe!?
