So what do you guys think of the rules? My riding style doesn't include much skidding, so it didn't affect my ride that much, but some of my friends would be disappointed. Also rules trying to keep the trails private was a bit of quandary, since once you ride there you know where the trails are. Reminds me of Coast Gravity Park, they don't want their trails on Trailforks, but obviously, once you ride there you know where the trails are.

Skidding is fun and all but i like that the no skidding rules makes it so that there is no breaking bumps. So the trail is as smooth as a baby's bottom.
@BCpov6 жыл бұрын
And the trails were very smooth here!

One simple rule, for every skid-you promise to come out to a trail day.
@trailselektor31156 жыл бұрын
Sometimes skidding is unavoidable. I guess they mean intentional skidding.
@hobmarg6 жыл бұрын
Are the trails on private land there? I think it's a bit different in Canada if something is on crown land (which I think CGP is), they can't really prevent access unless they can argue you are creating a dangerous situation (pedaling up the access road at CGP would probably qualify). Similar to how ski resorts on crown leases cannot stop people from skiing down their runs, but they can limit skinning/hiking up during operating hours on safety concerns. Cat/heli ski tenures are the same, they can't stop sledders/ski touring but local community is usually very respectful as they know the economic value of the operators. Either way I wouldn't ever bother poaching something like CGP, as you know we just have so much access to stuff in BC it's not worth it.

Another awesome video in this series. Thanks so much for sharing these. I'm loving the Japan series. All these trails look really fun. I liked how your guide mostly rode a hardtail, but on the steep DH bits he appeared to pull a full suspension rig out of nowhere :-). Did he switch bikes during the day? It took me a minute to figure it out. Ok, he's on a hardtail. No, wait, now he's on a Kona full suspension. Oh, no, now he's back on the hardtail... I could live with the no skidding rule, but it would be very strange to me to have to pay someone to guide you every time you went riding. What did you think of that? You only had one Japan video where you were able to just go ride solo.
@BCpov6 жыл бұрын
Good eye on his bike! There aren't many that pay attention like that! He actually switched bikes at lunch time! We rode a few of the same trails 2x and in order to keep the edit a decent length and not show the same thing 2x I took the best sections from each lap! Yes, much of the riding we did in Japan was paid. There aren't many "public" riding networks there, almost everything is private land there. We did end up meeting a bunch of people throughout our trip and they took us on some cool "secret" trails :D I'll post those in the coming weeks!

Beautiful place, awesome flowy riding, great video! I guess I'm ok with the no skidding rule if what they mean is don't be throwing scandinavian flicks all over the place and drifting around, but you're bound to skip a few times with the rear tire if you're going fast enough.
@BCpov6 жыл бұрын
Yeah.. I think in the end it turned out to be okay, like even the guide had a slide at one point. But when you have to sign a contract.. it's like.. ok this is really serious.
@BlindstuffMTB6 жыл бұрын
BCpov strict rules like that usually exists thanks to the a holes. 1 of them can usually eclipse 100 decent people.

I can respect the fact they want to keep exclusivity with the trails, but only if they own the land. Also, I think we can all agree a great trail isn’t just flow... abuse of a trail obviously can ruin the fun but there is a sweet middle ground as well. Good technical features arise from moderate abuse/use of a trail. Let em rip and allow those trails to get more diverse! Maintain when needed.
@BCpov6 жыл бұрын
They likely have an agreement with the landowners, which is almost the same thing. You're right that technical features do come about from erosion! Definitely can attest to that on the north shore!

I was waiting to see this place. It fascinates me. When I saw Casey Brown riding here a few years ago it looked like the worst ride I have ever seen. They were terrified to accidentally skid. It just seemed strange . Seeing your experience changed my perspective a lot. I thought your Guide was pushing the boundaries of their own rules quite a bit. Anyways always love your vids.

Skid police? More like fun police. Bad weather? Sure, close the trail. For me this take it a little to far. Strange how the Japanese car culture and bike culture are so different. Street drifting anyone?
@BCpov6 жыл бұрын
That's a good point actually. I'm not that into the drifting scene, but it does seem quite counter to Japanese culture in general.
