The magic if seeing someone who looks like you, who grew up seven miles from where you are, succeeding AND bringing the knowledge home. Truly, this is what we need. Thank you for being who you are, your heart shines in the videos and time you spend with people who can't offer you anything but thanks and respect.

Absolute amazing organization, there was a book recently written about them and their history, well worth the read. My dad was a son of Italian immigrants who grew up in Fordham, Bronx and he learned to ride in The City as well. Learning about them and seeing what they do really makes me appreciate what my dad did to ride, and so very grateful he passed the love for the horse down to me. Even after 25 years of his passing the thoughts of him and horses brings tears to my eyes, I wish he was still around to today to the gifts he has given me today.

@@mattmillsreining1 you were lucky to have had horses at an early age too. I grew up in a very rural local, we had a volunteer fire/EMT department and 40 miles from the nearest hospital, movie theater and major grocery store. My mom was abusive but my dad was amazing, I didn't want to cause problems in their marriage. One day I came home to an American Shetland (11.5 hands), a well mannered stallion named "Dusty, who had every bit a big horse mentality. We would disappear for hours after school, on trails he was small enough to fit under fallen trees, strong enough to go up steep trails, etc., he loved to go. He was also good at cutting cows. He was my saving grace.

Oh, I enjoyed this so much. I happened to yesterday be looking at a type of saddle typical of South Africa so I was looking at South African tack shop websites and disturbed the pictures were all white people. No attempt at even token diversity. I googled for more info on whether riding is really that "White" in SA and found a unique program in South Africa teaching Black youth to ride, led by South Africa's one Black professional show jumper. But apparently the reason for it is that riding is almost solely "White" in South Africa. Black folks were using horses, but as draft animals, pulling carts. Huge class/culture divide, along racial lines. Can't have that in America and shouldn't have to be like that anywhere. People should feel their dignity and horses can be good for that.
