Tbh this is fake. Square enix finally noticed that ff gets to old these days and they do a new fresh start for the series on this game. This game Only have chocobos, crystals and eikons from previos games. Everything else fells so new and fresh but in the good way.

Active Time Lore is one of the best kept secrets of this game. I was spamming it like every 30 seconds everytime a new character was on screen. Watched a lot of streamers play this demo and they all had the same or similar questions (is she his real mom? is Jill his sister? etc..) and let me tell you, ATL tells you everything as you go in real time. It's an amazing feature.

One of the rare cases where I choose the english dub. It fits very well with the setting and Clives VA absolutely killed it at the end (no pun intended).

@@Phyrrax for me especially in a video game where you're actively doing things while there's story I don't want to have to look at the bottom of the screen all the time. Also if it sounds corny that's because Japanese VOs are taught a more theatrical style which is over the top so the English cast has to match to that.

English was also TOP priority when it came to the voice acting. This is not a Japanese title like the rest of the series. It's an English game that was made by a Japanese studio. It also makes more sense for them to be English due to the setting (literally based on high fantasy medieval Europe). It throws me off, hearing them in Japanese. It'd be like watching Game of Thrones with a Japanese dub.

You can see that the lipsync doesn't match the japanese. Unlike ff7 remake which has two different facial animations for english and japanese.

The DMC-styled combat came out much better than I originally thought

The only thing that the combat shares with DMC is it being real time and the moves being flashy (which are two things you can also say about almost every other action game with real time combat). Other than that, the overall combat system and flow is not the same. Combat in DMC is a lot faster and there is more emphasis on parrying and precise dodging in FF XVI just as a few examples.

It reminds me less of DMC and more of, like, a 3D version of Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir’s combat system. Real heads know what I’m talking about.

Intresting fact about the sub/dub the dialog was written and the characters mocapped for english and then it was dubbed in japanese. For all intents and purpose english is the defualt language and Japanese is the dub. And with the sheer talent hired and emotional preformances by the english voice cast it really shows.

I still prefer the Japanese dub. The performance of the Japanese VA is on another level. The English version never gets me excited or even immersed in what's going on.

I agree, it's one of the few instances where the English VA is actually better than the Japanese VA, the literal English and Welsh actors in this did fantastic and Ralph Ineson as Cid is just perfect, out of respect for the game, the setting, the voice actors and Yoshi-P's vision he worked so hard on it's English dub all the way and as it is a feudal European setting it's way more immersive to hear a British accent.

Glad to see you turned around and played this game in English, the way the producer and creative director envisioned and intended for this FF installment. And I’m more likely to tune in to your playthrough of this game as a result. Besides, like all recent FF games, the subtitles are geared to English localization anyway, so it wouldn’t be a 1:1 translation of what is expressed in Japanese.

Semantics but it’s not accurate to call this a dub (done after the fact). A first in the FF series, it’s the dialogue now originally conceived and performed in English natively. The Japanese language track is now the dub over the original performances.

Fun-fact: the script was written in Japanese and English at the same time with both writing teams bouncing ideas off each other and choosing what best suits their language and approach for the final product. So both are technically the source and not an adaptation. The English recordings were actually done before the Japanese in the game. The subtitles on the screen come straight from the English script rather than being a translation of the Japanese script which is why it may seem jarring playing the game in Japanese with English subs. An issue that happens sometimes in anime too.

The only Final Fantasy that I care about is Final Fantasy 7 that I will be playing the remake and Final Fantasy X / X-2 I beat Final Fantasy X on ps2 such a magical game they remastered it so I just bought it not too long ago Final Fantasy 10 and Final Fantasy X /x2 are the only final fantasies that the stories continue every other Final Fantasy has a new story and character

I think the english is best for this since everything is intentionally so European. The english voice actors are good too, they don't run around with amateurish american accents.

Yeah, the subtitles for the game are just direct rips of the english audio, regardless of chosen audio track. I'm not 100% sure the english track was the original for this game, but given the clear GoT inspiration, I wouldn't be surprised.

The english dialog and subtitle version are not exactly the same as the japanese version. The localization team was given some freedom to put into english the best possible version based on the story.

About your first complaint, just put it on framerate mode, that is why it seems slow because you are in graphics mode, the motion blur for graphics mode is too much. Try framerate or performance mode, it is smoother targeting 60fps.
