Sorry for my rant I’m about to have.It’s the Catholic Church and most of them do. I was born and raised catholic. I went to one of my buddy’s Lutheran church not to long ago because I had stayed at his house for the weekend. There was people in there that were wearing crocs and gym shorts. At least in my Catholic Church and the ones in the area they would tell you to leave if you were wearing anything less than jeans and dress shoes. The Catholic Church it’s all about who donate the most money and who looks the best (which the priests do play along with) while the Lutheran church could care less how you looked they just wanted you to receive the message of God. Even in the 70s the Catholic Church was doing there Sermons in Latin and nobody knew any Latin. In my opinion the Catholic Church might be the biggest pedophile ring ever. The Vatican has billions if not trillions of dollars and uses it to help pay off parents who the priests have touched the parents kids VERY inappropriately. It was like close to a billion dollars that the Vatican had given to the Boston priests for over 100 years to pay off parents.

A misconception about the church: the penance isn’t how you “earn” forgiveness. If there was no penance the absolution would still be valid. The point of penance is a way to offer thanksgiving by taking the first step toward Christ in trying again. I do agree the priest was a little wild with that penance and he’s not supposed to watch like a vulture to make sure he does the penance. This is just an example of a priest not relying on the Holy Spirit and therefore the man felt judged by the priest

I usually dont mind made up stories if theyre entertaining and harmless, but it seems like some people in the comments dont understand to what extent this is fictionalized 1) priests can't ask for money as penance even if the money does not go to them 2) watching someone out of confession and confronting them on not completing their penance would break the seal of confession 3) even just looking at another with lust is sinful, let alone laying in the same bed. A common theme in theology is intent and culpability, so if your intent is bad you've already sinned. 4) many people saying in the comments that catholic priests earn money through church donations are either liars or misinformed. That is only really something you see with televangelists like that Joel guy. Catholic priests arent allowed to marry and have kids if they already began their journey as a priest (some priests may have a family if they became a priest after marrying and such). This allows for money to be properly distributed in the church. So instead of paying for a priest's son's college tuition when you donate, your money is going to good causes depending on what collection you donate money to (they announce what the collections are for, so you know exactly where the money is going)

Note for travellers (commenters): Keep in mind that there's different kinds of churches (Catholic, Protestant, Church of Christ, etc.), and that demoniations will differ "slightly" due to differences in leadership. You can't pay to have to your soul saved, and any 'church' that says otherwise is not a church, it is (most likely) a money-laundering scheme. God and EA are NOT one in the same. The contributions are meant as a way to give back to what God gave to us, but it is not a bill. It doesn't matter the amount (could be a penny, could be ten bucks), it's the thought that counts.
