One of the things that I appreciate about your videos is how much they show that even at high levels, luck is WAY too relevant. Makes me not take my losses so personally when I think I've drafted a good deck and lose 3-3 or worse.

Absolutely. A 7-0 means you drafted well but drew even better

Often if you lose, you misplayed somewhere. Definitely the case here. If you're not reviewing your games, you're almost certainly misplaying and just not noticing it

@@skylter Yeah, key point is that luck is not very relevant at all though. I haven't finished the video yet but his 2 losses so far were both due to him obviously misplaying

6:37 I wasn't excited about the cards either! But definitely would have gone Cottage. It's interesting how this shapes the draft. Cottage, Witch, Rat Out, Vermin, Grotto would have been natural and don't sound bad to me, unlike "combat tricks" and Season theme. I think this takes me out of temptation for red and in pack two I would have ended up with a Hopeless Nightmare, Galefang, Horseman and Whisper instead. In pack three would have gotten a Bramble Familar, Candy Grapple. Galefang, Wilds, Naughty and Beanstalk. TBF I'm way worse and haven't played enough to be bored and creative!

I really enjoy the decks for fun focus over repeated Boris recruiter decks over and over. I always focus on ‘what is possible’ over ‘whats the technical best’. Because of all the other variables, like luck, and the shuffler and other players making mistakes (and your own) etc. with such a Ltd Pool, in only a few months creating good decks it’s just funner and overall i do just fine, I don’t make mythic every season, but about half the time. Still have to be reasonable about it you have to take with your drafts give you a little for sure so sometimes you just have to go standard but where it’s possible I try new stuff all the time.

19:39 there's no way that's not a worthwhile trade - trading your 2/1 + two rats for his 4/4 is def worth. Your current hand doesn't have a great way to get through the 4/4, so idk why you wouldn't. It completely walls your attacks otherwise 20:05 Why use your treasure when you might need the removal spell to help get the 4/4 off the board? He's a grindy deck, so you need all the value you can get also. Playing out all your cards doesn't actually open up a big attack the next turn/let you outtempo him You could attack with the race here, and offer trading both rats for the 2/3. I think simplifying the board is good for you, opens up more attacks later.

for someone trying to get back into magic and only interested in draft, how do i get better at picking cards /archetypes without blowing a ton of money? The game needs a practice draft where i can play against other humans but dont win any resources or get any of the cards for my collection.
@NumotTheNummyYT Жыл бұрын
it's hard to jump right in without some expectation of putting some money in, assuming you want to play on arena or mtgo. Watching others is a good place to start, but if you're just getting back in there isn't really an alternative to jumping in and getting hands on experience imo

@@NumotTheNummyYT your videos have been a massive help. I've watched every video you have put out in the last few weeks. My favorite part of your videos are the drafts and you describing what you are thinking and why a card is the correct pick. Thanks for what you do.

Start with Quick Drafts until you have a reasonably good feeling for the set and move to Premier only afterwards if you feel that you can guarantee 3 wins. Look at Quick Drafts as "Converting your gold into gems". Sometimes you get more out of them, sometimes less. Try to high roll the daily quests (to get 750g out of them) and build a small fast standard deck in each color to reliably solve them and get the 250g for the first win each day. As soon as you have a reasonable amount of gems (~10k) it is not hard to stay infinite in quick drafts when you win 3-4 games on average and continue to convert gold into gems.
@d.j.nijholt5030 Жыл бұрын
And there is also draftsim. I've only been drafting on Arena for free. It mostly cost time but if you hit the daily challenges (always reroll to try and make it a 750) you get to 5000 gold in a couple of days moat of the time. Then you can start quick draft which also is a good way to start because there is no pick timer.
