Harold Smuck From first hand experience, it's a blast. It's not as difficult to learn the basics as many would think. Fear and nerves are your biggest enemy, just like driving anything. I will say though, it isn't until you have been driving with someone for a while will you fully enjoy and exploit the benefits of a Tiller. When the Cab driver and Tiller man know each other's style, that's when the real magic happens.

I do have to say, the FDNY has gotten more serious about the designs of their trucks overall. They look more rugged and built like a beast than they ever were before. When I saw they were getting designed with a raised roof, I was blown away.

All across America, some Fire stations have Tiller time. Other stations it seems to be Miller time. Ha Ha. Nice video. I used to watch the Tiller's go by in Philly. Some of greatest operators everywhere.. Some of them are operating with so much grace going through the cities everywhere. Keep up the good work.

I love these tillers! It has two frames like truck and trailer. The front look like a Engine. In Germany we don't have these long and fantastic vehicles. In Germany everyone would love to sit in one of your fire trucks. All those drivers think get out the way with these amazing blazing air horns! I think tiller 40 has the best air horn!! Look at 10:20 ❤️. I would really love to work for the FDNY!

the term tiller is from vessels that had a long arm attached to the rudder of a vessel with and external stern mounted rudder the tillerman is the one who maned it and was called the tillerman

Respect to the max for firefighters themselves. None for management or the union. I was royally screwed by a major Canadian Fire Service years ago when I developed a neurological disorder. No help or assistance at all. Booted out on my ass. Considering neuro-muscular disorders are the charity-of-choice for fire services, never understood what happened to me. mcaddicts FDNY only requires a firemen to hold a Class D license. Firetrucks are "apparatus" and therefore don't fall under normal government regulations.
