The true mayhem... What I like most about this band is the difference in style throughout the albums... Always a different sound, always brutal If you pick one song from each album you'll notice the extreme difference. You should listen to the freezing moon studio recording with dead, timeless song.

Deathcrush is basically Death metal if you think about it, downtuned guitars with something that woukd be considered a proto swedish chainsaw tone... And thr composition is very influenced by extreme thrash and obviously first wave black metal. However the vocals are basically the kind of black metal vocals youd expect.

Mayhem's most influential music is from De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Check that out. This EP was when they were really young. And the reverb on vocals was really common in 80's extreme metal. This band has a lot of history to them, if you haven't read.

No, the most influential Mayhem record BY FAR is the Live in Leipzig, it's what kick started the entire scene in Norway. Fenriz said Darkthrone literally dropped the death metal while recording their 2nd album (later released as Goatlord) to totally change their style to black metal after hearing it. They restarted from scratch and that's how "A blaze in the northern sky" came to be.

Fenriz, Nocturno, Ihsahn, Samoth, Snorre Ruch, Abbath and Demonaz were all present to witness Dead’s antics on stage in addition this being the first time anyone had seen the band perform since the demo was recorded.

The true talent of Mayhem gets overshadowed by the over the top other members, but if you pay close attention you will hear one of the greatest drummers of all time. Hellhammer is a master at his craft.

I love the punk vibe on this EP and the Live in Leipzig, for an example listen to the DRI song "Reaganomics" from 1983, the riff sounds the same as the fast riffs on here! Good stuff.

Dimmu borgir is awesome the first album For All Tid will always be my favorite! It encompasses Soo much of what black metal is supposed to be about. Brutal melodies that make you think of frozen land and medieval times! Kinda like Skyrim! Haha

@@n.afonso7171 You don't understand anything, Mayhem invented the genre of the band you mentioned, it doesn't make any sense to compare them to these groups (also Deathspell Omega and Nightbringer were a Mayhem ripoff bands before they found their own style and identity after their first records). Mayhem are certainly famous for non-musical events, but they are also famous for the legendary concerts in 1990, where they played raw second wave black metal while all the other Norwegian bands of the time played only death metal and they are also known for the De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas record, which is one of the most influential black metal albums ever (along with the early Darkthrone albums). Euronymous was also an influential figure who launched several bands under his own label at the time (also bands from other country), his Helvete store is a cult and also he was an influential guitarist (if it weren't for him, tremolo picking wouldn't be such a hallmark in black metal).
