Okay, I'm sure this comes from my inexperience regarding non-cozy games, but this final boss battle was the best one I have ever experienced. Was it super challenging? Not necessarily. But when Ganondorf's health bar grew beyond its original bounds? When he started to undo my hearts?? When he freaking flurry rushed??? The dragon fight???? Damn I was on the edge of my seat right until the end, it was an absolute blast to play!

I was a little emotional going down the hole and seeing the torch on the ground. My first thought was “oh there’s a torch here, maybe I have to burn something to go further in” And after running around the area and not seeing anything else but the torch, I walked back over to it , looked up and it all clicked in my head that that was her torch and I teared up immediately. I felt renewed in my resolve to finish the fight for her sacrifice. It was a beautiful little detail and I have heard a lot of people didn’t even notice it and it honestly made me feel good. I grew up on Zelda. I’ve played every one over and over. I’ve been borrowed as a “human guide book” from my friends and partner when they play Zelda lol I didn’t have friends growing up and I never went out. I was a full blown hermit. I even put curtains around my queen size bed so I could set up a shelf on the wall for my tv and systems so I could literally be alone in a cocoon with my games. Zelda was my best friend growing up. I wasn’t good at anything but Zelda. I used to say if I could do it for a living I’d be set 😂 I learned lessons from it when most were learning from friends and experiences. I’m sad this ride is over bc the in-between time waiting on games is agony for me but this game has so much more to find and I hope to make it last on my quest for 100% this game till a new one can fill the void in my heart ❤️
@paulhinterberger7438
@paulhinterberger7438 Жыл бұрын
If you'd like to fill that void early, try replaying the game but ramp up the difficulty. By this I mean intentionally under-power yourself for every fight. I did this and I had a blast, it felt like Master Mode. Instead of using OP fuses, try using ones you like or look cool. It made a huge difference for my 2nd playthrough. Also try to explore everywhere you can. I filled out every shrine and the whole Depths in my 2nd.

Six months later (?) I just finished the game and I’m so emotional about it. Zelda theories and videos since we heard there would be a sequel is what got me through the pandemic. Family members almost not being with me anymore because of covid, the sounds of sirens throughout NYC nonstop… my escape was watching Zelda content and playing BotW. Then the teaser, the trailer, the name… “Tears of the Kingdom,” the confirmation we were right about the Zonai! Now that it’s over it feels like a big chapter has been shut. And I try to remember the Dr. Seuss quote, “don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” But man… what a time. I’d also like to add that I’m really proud of our community for being pretty amazing about spoilers! I was spoiled by a friend by accident a bit in real life about Ganon turning into a dragon, but great work everyone on putting out spoiler warnings and not blatantly posting willy nilly even when you finished the game.

One of the big themes in my first TotK playthrough was using consumables a lot more than I did in BotW. This was mainly because the thought of re-locating/upgrading my entire wardrobe from the first game seemed excessively tedious. I also left a lot of shrines untouched and went into the final battle with only about 25 heart containers, thinking that would be more than enough with yellow bonus hearts. So I had a lot of bonus heart food, plus gloom resistance food, plus gloom recovery food, and I was feeling pretty confident. Then he got the first good hit in that permanently shattered a heart container (as well as my Hylian shield) and I started to think I'd made a serious strategic miscalculation. I did not give him the satisfaction of killing me, but seeing heart containers permanently destroyed like that definitely added an extra basting of intensity to an already pretty great fight. I've been playing these games since I was a kid, and with only a few exceptions, heart containers are forever. Kudos to the designers for pulling that rug out from under me and serving up a real "oh shit" moment just before the glorious finale. 😀

The game is fantastic! However, three things would have added alot to the end: 1) I agree Ganondork was too easy, I spent an entire day prior to facing him cookin food and fully upgrading deity army and getting some great weapons and hit him once and took 1/4 health and I was look oh okay and preceded to put on weaker armor and weapons to actually make it a challenge, dragon battle was freaking sweet also easy but way better than botw dark beast 2) Zelda needed to hug Link near immediately upon waking up and seeing him, it would have been absolutley called for since Zelda thought she'd never see him again, otherwise that cut scene felt a bit too disconnected also because Link didn't even hardly react either 3) The last couple of cut scences were great however they had a touch too much 1st person aspect to them, like it would have added so much more if it showed Link parrying a hit from Ganondorf and striking him or something

When Light Dragon comes to aid Link in the final battle, my thought was “did she come back and maybe draconification hasn’t removed everything that is Zelda?” It ist just a theory… but I believed it is her love for her knight is what drove her dragon instinct/consciousness in saving Link from falling and aiding him in the final battle against Draconified Demon King. We all seen that when her powers were activated when the ones she loves is threaten in Breath of the Wild.

I didn't seek out the story but I did complete the regional phenomena before taking on the final boss (I didn't even know there was a 5th sage until after beating the final boss). As soon as I saw the Light Dragon everything clicked and my jaw dropped. Also it's lovely to see a discussion on the game that didn't come out like a week after release. I really took my time with the game and only beat it a few weeks ago. Nice to finally talk and experience spoilers without ruining it for myself.

I understand Felix's perspective. I wouldn't recommend anyone playing BotW and TotK back to back, and it's true that they could have changed more of the surface map, or added a settlement in the sky or depths to change things up a bit more. Overall, though, I agree with Alex. There are so many little things that take TotK to the next level. I didn't think I'd want to re-explore this Hyrule so much, but I'm also now on 200 hrs. Korok seeds didn't keep me interested after finishing all the main + side quests in Botw, but even those are more interesting and varied in TotK. Then there's the Addison and the bubbul gems too. And ascend is so awesome. I love how it's all about the interplay between sky, surface, caves, and depths. Diving from the sky is exhilarating, and having to use ascend to get into closed off locations like Korok forest and Reede's shed was so cool.

5:12 I 100% agree that games should be allowed to just end. A traditional post-game would force you to compromise on extremely important story elements in service of gameplay. Imagine a version of Tears of the Kingdom where you're allowed to explore Hyrule after beating Ganondorf, but Zelda is stuck as a dragon and Rauru and Sonnia never get to rest in peace because that would mean locking you out of the Ultrahand abilities. And for what? The same world plus a couple of cutscenes and NPC dialogues aknowledging you won but that there's still housecleaning to do out there? Some cheap plot device explaining that yes, you totally beat Ganondorf for good but somehow all his monsters can exist without him? Why would anyone want that?

The whole endgame is so epic, I don't know how they'll ever outdo it in future Zelda games. It's frustrating being the only person I know who actually finished the game (let alone practically 100%'d it) because all of my friends/family abandoned it after deciding that they were burned out on open-world games.

I just beat it about a week ago and I'm beside myself. I don't think I've ever felt such wonder in a game, not since BOTW at least. That said, I also went in to Gannon feeling OP since I clocked in 400+ hours before that point.. but because I felt underwhelmed by the difficulty of BOTWs boss fight, I did this whole game with 6 hearts*, so that final fight when gloom protection no longer works, was brutal! Loved it! *There's a part where I needed to up my hearts, but as soon as I was able to, I went back to 6. Next time I'll go for a 3 heart run

Part of my inspiration in the builds I put together is actually with non-builders in mind to make it accessible! Also, sadly, it's been stated in an interview that there are no plans for DLC. :(

I beat the game last week, and having only really focused on the main quests, Ganondorf was the hardest and most intimidating boss I'd ever fought in a Zelda game. I could only take 3 hits before dying and it took me 4 hours before I could beat him with 1 hit left. By the end, I was dodging like it was Punch Out!! in order to get the flurry rushes in. That being said, it never felt more satisfying to beat him and the spectacle of flying in the sky with two dragons made this my favorite ending in the series. I felt the same magic as I felt watching Spirited Away.

When Zelda said “ Link ,I’m home”, I believe it is not just she really returned to the Hyrule she belongs to. But Link is her home. In Japanese however, Zelda said this: "ただいま... リンク" (pronounced as I'm home Link). These words depicts that is either someone close to family or a person you shared space with (aka lover).

The subtext of their relationship is definitely Romantic. Living together in "Zeldas House",... okay I guess that is all I got. But romantic or not.... I was so annoyed by silent bystander Link. "Oh the girl I have a connection with and I thought was a dragon forever, Is back. Let's just stand there with no reaction at all" I wanted him to give her a hug so badly. But he didn't show any feelings. I get that the Creators think for Link being a link for the Player to the Gameworld, he must be to bland, silent and have not to big emotions. So the player can have their emotions and are not influenced by Links emotions. But the moment I leared about Zeldas sacrifice I was suprised and in shock. And Link not haveing a reaction to it, actually reminded me that it is just a game. Uh this got longer, I guess I will also post this under the video😂

I enjoyed the ending. Will I play to fight ganondorf again? No. It's got no repeatability. I got to compare it with OoT's ending where you go into the castle and fight your way up to Ganondorf. That I would replay over n over again. Wind Waker's ending wasn't repeatable either. You just go straight to the boss fight. There's something about the obstacles and trials of the final dungeon that makes it so worthwhile to repeat the game just for it. Heck even the part with the collapsing castle after you defeat humanoid ganondorf was cool too. Tbh I didnt feel it for either BotW and TotK but that's because Nintendo heavily made it so the journey was worthwhile not the destination sort of thing. The endings for these two latest installments seemed to me to be just theatrics not much substance. OoT's final boss fight had stages and sequences that got more challenging as you progressed. TotK's Wapping on a large pool of health doesn't do much when the movesets are the same as Phantom Ganon. It's so deprived of any stages or levels of difficulty that having Demon King Ganondorf do a flurry rush back at you was probably the main thing that brought smiles to end-boss fight fanatics like myself, but that goes to show how much is lacking in the fight if all I had to made me feel alive was just one single mechanic. *Shrug* At least with WW, Ganondorf's final boss fight had different movesets and the sword fight was epic because by the time you reached this fight your level of anticipation to his sword swings is on a much higher level due to a learning curve and it makes you feel rewarded for your skills which you learned throughout the game.

I agree on this conclusion only on technical aspects, TOTK is just more advanced and has more impressive moments. But to me consistency, simplicity and discovery go a long way when something is good, and TOTK didn't necessarily improve through that lens. Lots of new things that felt layered but not really connected, and a bit too much familiarity so close to BOTW.

I decided to fight the final boss having only Tulin and Riju. And, honestly, that felt like the perfect way to fight the final boss, having numerous phases to fight, while still getting some assistance. I also attempted to do so before fighting a single boss, and I couldn’t even beat the first horde. I also didn’t find the root to make traversing the depths easier, so that was fun

I accidentally stumbled upon the Ganondorf fight after only recruiting Tulin and not finding the Master Sword yet, and I thought I'd give it a try anyways. I had to fight the other three main sage bosses, the phantom Ganons, and the fifth sage mech boxing match (without a mech of my own) before I fought Ganondorf. It was wild! The phantom Ganondorfs that fight alongside the real Ganondorf weren't much of an issue because they walk so slowly. I then got the whole Zelda dragon cutscene and the Master Sword between the two Ganondorf phases, spoiling the dragon tear cutscenes, but making sure I had the sword! That final cutscene with the sages wasn't there until I went back and beat him again after getting everything.

I completed the game last night in the most cack-handed way, whole game I was fairly useless with flurry rush and it showed particularly third phase of Ganondorf, only way I managed to hit him was if he got trapped again a wall so he didn't move and could get a few strikes on him. But yes, it was epic! I feel like they could have done a bit more with the ending, but overall I really enjoyed it. It was my reintroduction to video gaming after a break for a few years due to lifestyle changes and I'm super happy I chose this game to come back to it with.

I'm still not positive why, but the ending seemed kind of underwhelming for me. I think it just didn't have the emotional payoffs I expected or hoped for. I kind of wanted the end of the game to be defeating Ganondorf and then the next game (or at least DLC) to be dedicated to finding a way to save Zelda. Because the game makes it clear that draconification makes you completely lose yourself, and I guess the implication for me was that that meant it's impossible to return from that form, which was just devastating to me.

No flurry rush (tried and couldn't get the timing), no deflecting his projectiles, nada 😂. I lost about 2 hearts max and I generally suck at combat. Tears of the Kingdom is undoubtedly a masterpiece of game design and execution. That said, I think I have to say I preferred Breath of the Wild's story, in that I feel its emotional payoff at the end was bigger. In Breath of the Wild the story focused around Zelda a lot, her training to fulfil her sacred duty and unlock her goddess powers. Her constant failure, her fighting to have more control over her own life, was a really strong part of the story. She felt she had failed to unlock her powers, and would never gain them and thus wanted to help Hyrule through research of the Guardians etc. Then she watched her friends die, her kingdom brought down into ruin in one calamatous moment. Her only recourse was to sacrifice herself until Links reawakening. After the game finishes, you can see her relief. She didn't fail, she unlocked her power and saved Hyrule and gained the freedom she never had before. That final shot of her doing what she loves, research and planning for the recovery while the camera zooms out to a Silent Princess, now growing in the wild was poingant and beautiful. To me the emotional payoff was massive, I really got attached to her character over the course of the game and was very satisfied. Whether this was because I spent so much time exploring and reading every journal I'm not sure, but her character was so well written and developed it was hard not to root for her. She's easily my favourite rendition of Zelda. Tears of the Kingdom is more. More epic, more characters, higher stakes. But it felt like there was something missing emotionally. Sure the dragon scene is impactful, but I think we all knew deep down we'd find a way to cure her at the end, which we do. There wasn't as much character development for Zelda or Link I felt, the focus was understandably on the Zonai for large parts, along with Ganondorf. It was still an incredible story and a great game, technically far more impressive than Breath of the Wild. I have one niggle though... The Champion abilities from Breath of the Wild were great, even if a little overpowered with Mipha's Grace being a free revive. They were easy and could be activated with a degree of fluidity to them, especially in combat with Revali's Gale or Urbosa's Fury. Compare these to the Sages and how they assist you in combat, it feels far less refined. You're constantly having to chase them around to activate the abilities, it's far too frenetic especially when you have more than a couple out as they block your view (especially Minaru!). Why they couldn't have these as part of a rotary menu I'll never know. On the L1 menu, they had that utterly useless map shortcut next to the other hand abilities, why they didn't have a prompt for a submenu with the abilities there? It was my biggest gripe with the game mechanically and felt like it stuck out when everything else was so well executed. I love both games, they're testements to what talented developers can accomplish on limited hardware such as the Switch.

I spoiled a friend where Link's sword was while saying that I got my eyes in the light dragon on the first day of playing it, I felt shame about it. Also, I was super desperate when Ganondorf's health bar went across the screen limits! I thought Impa was going to start a quest on how to turn Zelda back (the one about Hylian history) and she'd fight on Link's side against Ganondorf.

You can't have a discussion like this and not talk about Ganondorf's health bar extending off the screen. Not a single one of them brought it up.

"I tried hard to beat ganon with only 3 hearts." This was my exact scenario but with 5. And it took a handful of tries, and I had to borderline play perfect with razor thing margins for error. But I did, in fact, beat that trio of ganon fights with just 5 hearts.

The ending and the dragon fight was awesome. I actually loved the last gameplay moment when Link finally grabbed Zeldas Hand. But than I was so annoyed by silent bystander Link.

I honestly didn't feel surprised nor excited during the Demon Dragon fight. Like, don't get me wrong, the actual setup and seeing Ganondorf turning into this colosal dragon was so cool, and I was super excited to see how the fight would turn out to be in gameplay terms. Then, it hit me, the Demon dragon does nothing. It just shoots some very slow fireballs, and flies slowly through the skies, and you jump off from dragon Zelda, falling sloooowly towards the weak points of the Demon Dragon. I expected more sequences, like the Demon Dragon trying to attack Zelda and you having to shoot at it so he leaves her alone or something like that. In the end, the fight itself felt super boring to me in the gameplay sense. It might sound like a hot take, but I felt more actively engaged with Dark Beast Ganon than the Demon Dragon. The Ganondorf fight was cool though, I just felt super disappointed with the Dragon portion

I felt happy about Zelda’s involvement to assist us with the demon dragon but realized like you that it was just a simple set piece like the boar portion of BotW (same formula). Maybe have him do some bites and claw swipes. Also spawn flying enemies that you’d use bullet time on…then you could whistle to call Zelda when stamina was diminished. I think they felt it was a victory lap for surviving everything else just like in BotW imo.

I guess it's preference tbh. I kinda clocked that dragon phase was gonna be more cinematic than challenging, and I think it's that way on purpose. Imagine dying on Demon Dragon and having to do it all again. All the wonder and immersion would be gone at a key moment. So I think in trying to avoid that they went all-in on emotion and making it a set piece. However, obviously there is a balance to be found and there are many people disappointed by how easy the fight was which is valid!! You'd expect the final phase to be hard. It all depends on what you want to get out of the experience. As someone who was looking more to be immersed and enjoy the story when playing totk, Ganondorf was a suitable enough difficulty (and more importantly it felt fair, like Link and ganondorf were both fighting with the same rules which was great for getting immersed in a 1-on-1 duel between the two strongest warriors in Hyrule). I was never expecting Demon Dragon to be anything more than the climactic finish that Dark Beast was, and so I was very satisfied with the entire end sequence. However, if your expectations lie more in being challenged, then I can understand why it was disappointing

@lukea5255 but even if we take it like that, you can see at what Nintendo did for previous games running on more underpowered systems. The beast Malladus final boss fight in Spirit Tracks was super emotional, not that difficult, but very engaging with Link and Zelda actively working together and the player even having agency over Zelda (you can't even control the dragon). Ocarina of Time's Ganon boss fight was also not that hard, but the cinematic flavor was (IMHO), way more impactful and dreadful than the Demon Dragon. And don't get me started with Wind Waker which had a banger of an ending. Just falling very slowly from the sky to a slow moving dragon is not my idea of amazing, when you had duels against similar beasts or even 1-on-1s with other similar bosses, to which I feel had more effort put on them. Like I commented, I feel Dark Beast Ganon was WAY more exciting than the Demon Dragon

The demon dragon didn't do a lot but compared to the final form of Ganon in BotW where he *literally* did nothing it was at least an improvement.
