What I don't understand is, why you would want the drive shafts engaged without driving the wheels. If you put the transfer case in 4WD, surely you would want the front wheels to run. So, why would you need to be able to unlock the hubs?
@billbillinger2491
@billbillinger2491 4 ай бұрын

@@billbillinger2491 I'm still a little confused. I had always understood that the reason for freewheel hubs was exactly that but the reason for doing it was to improve efficiency / use less fuel and reduce wear on long on road runs in 2WD. But these vehicles don't do long on road trips, they are trailered / trucked to where they are needed if it is a long distance from base and spend a lot of time in 4WD, so why is it worthwhile to have freewheel hubs?

What's funny. M22s ran straight cut gears not because straight cut gears were the strongest. The straight cut gears were just easier to mass produce out of stronger steel. Straight cut gears are nowhere near the strongest. In fact they are the weakest gears possible. It was just a strange manufacturing quirk that led to the myth becoming common that straight cut gears are best.

KZbin put this video in my feed, and enjoying Matt's channel, I had to watch this. A lot of things could have very easily gone very wrong, very quickly, Thank God nothing did go wrong. Don't be too surprised if Matt offers you a job after seeing this. Your off the cuff recovery went very smooth, and earned you another subscriber.

Jake is fantastic. All of Matt's kids are outstanding too, but I give great props to Jake who is just really great on camera. We really dig Colby too... just a really solid, solid cast right now! Keep it up!

I have met Jake and Kolby in person and they are just as fun and genuine in person as they are on the channel, maybe even more. Great guys to talk to.

2wd low range is great for maneuvering trailers in tight spaces, especially on high traction surfaces. We did that on my Dad's 1989 F-150 when I was in high school.

You might want some ABC extinguishers in the shop. Next time if something oily catches you want something non water ready.

That spud truck is a BEAST. Might have to wait till the new shop is finished so you can fit it inside and have room to work around it.

I love every time there's a MORR build. You always produce awesome rigs. All the best with the 6x6. 'Uniqueness' is a fitting adjective followed by 'awesome'

A trick for vehicles with no (broken) power steering if you don't wanna muscle the wheel, slowly start moving and turning the wheel in the desired direction. Had to bring a lot of military trucks in with broken power steering, it certainly helped a little bit.
