Literally had some people in tears thinking he was coming clean about working too hard - as known for writing a lot - how he had been struggling and needed a break. Only to do a complete 180, say the pandemic was good for his writing as shown him it was the press tours etc that were draining him and if he's left alone he will just keep writing non stop 😂

I kind of call this the anima of storytelling. Inspired by how animation can feel more lively than filmed live-action, because animation literally means ‘life’. But in the context of a novel, personal prose has more liveliness than a disconnected narrator who can't afford liberties without citation. Also counting “based on a true story” as fiction-leaning as the “based” isn't necessarily for what kids these days call a “wise opinionated figure”, but meaning it isn't 1-for-1, first hand accounts. Usually journals are the closest we can get to narrative prose in non-fiction, since even an autobiography can show fuzziness in day-to-day life.

This is so true! A story about politica gets narrow, because its real, but a sci fi allegory aiming for the sam point can feel more real, because it is not narrowed down. Something that does not capture physical reality can be better at capturing emotional reality, and I think that can be even more important for our experience of realness.
