We traded away our longest tenured franchise star to get back a quality role player and secure financial flexibility for the future, so that we can build around Ant when he hits his prime. We traded away the 2031 first rounder to move up and draft Dilly, and Connelly is on record saying the organization thinks he's the point guard of the future. Dilly gotta play. He's still super raw ㅡ his shot is streaky, his passing is sometimes not on the same page with his teammates, and his defense and physicality are worse than subpar. But he also shows flashes of what he can become, and what he can contribute to an often sluggish Timberwolves offense. Give him meaningful minutes, even after Divo returns from injury.
@deanweathers8271
@deanweathers8271 14 күн бұрын
Also gonna point out that in the same game, Memphis had a rookie who was picked 31 spots after Dilly. He's a regular starter, averaging 26 minutes a game, and he closed out the game tonight. Why can't Dilly get the same opportunity?

I agree with everything but his defense. He definitely gives it his all and plays tenacious defense, it's just his size that holds him back from being a good defender.

@@skoolynugenator1802 Two things, we could have just would have paid a massive tax and been restricted filling out the roster but that really wouldn't have been a problem. Also we would have had to let Gobert walk not resign after next season. I wouldn't have had an issue with either of those to be honest. Second, If Randle opts in it puts us in the same exact financial situation next season as if Towns was still here.

@@joeleuer1842 you realize how handcuffed your roster building is when you reach the second apron right? It’s not just financial. Terrible idea. Just have some patience and understand they actually might have a plan to shape this team around Ant.

You make a lot of great points about why Rob should be playing more minutes but the biggest one, in my opinion, is that we need to start developing him faster so that he's more on track with ANT's timeline. Why aren't we developing our first round pick so that he's ready to play with Ant? It's baffling and it's the biggest reason why I want Finch gone. He just refuses to give them a chance.
@DyingBreed8
@DyingBreed8 13 күн бұрын
Rob will get many chances because he's one of the very few option's. Even if he doesn't deserve it. Finch thought he could get some wins instead of developing Rob but now he's forced.

Totally agree. Love what Mike’s done for this team, but he should be coming off the bench and not in the closing lineup, unless he’s scoring well. Rob, like DDV, brings that spark to our offense that helps everyone else get going. Finch choosing a cold Conley over Rob when he’s on fire is the biggest concern. I get leaning on Mike’s experience early in the season, but leaving a guy on the bench who’s getting buckets, rookie or not, is just wild.

Last sentence says it all. 100%. Give him the minutes so he's ready to when we need him to be ready. What's the expectation at the 1 next year? Play Dilly now and maybe next year we'll be starting to look like we have a dynasty back court brewing. Or keep sitting him and keeping him out of big games and big moments and next year we'll still have the underplayed and under tested Dilly that we have this year.

As a Grizzlies fan, I was upset Dillingham got benched. Dude can hoop. Love Conley but Dillingham has that killer instinct at the pg. He might be the help Ant needs at the 1. If he can start playmaking, Ant will go absolutely crazy scoring and probably will play better defense with less offensive load.

Last season was the season to try to win a chip... this season currently should be a re-torque; check which players are going to be viable moving forward - Rob needs minutes, and so does TJ and Minott and maybe some of Miller Both Minott and Miller have potential to replace NAW if he can't get his shooting more consistent. Rob can replace NAW for ball handling duties.

Imagine having someone on your bench that can quite literally help you provide easy offense (something the wolves have never had lol) but never play him. How is rob a +16 and is not closing the game when Mike looks visibly old and the offense just shuts down to a halt? The same thing happened against one of the Houston games where he was a +28 and didn't play a second in overtime. How, as a coach, can you blatantly ignore something that's been working in favor of a broken recipe that doesn't work anymore? I thought this season was all about experimenting and figuring things out. Why is this team playing 7-8 guys like a deep playoff team when they clearly aren't this season? What's it gonna take for TSJ to get some minutes? A 100 point game in Iowa?

The Timberwolves are in a very interesting spot. Did they shut their window when they traded for KAT or is this a bridge year where they are building a new identity, come up with a savvy move on what to do with Julius Randle (the coming weeks will probably tell us) and surprise us all next year? I mean, DiVincenzo turns 28 this year, NAW is 26, Reid 25, McDaniels 24 and Ant still only 23. Besides Dillingham they also still have Miller who just turned 21. I think the future looks really bright for them!

@cambury
@cambury 14 күн бұрын
The reason Finch put Conley back in is when it comes down to those final minutes it would be all Ant and they needed someone who could get more out of those possessions. Dillingham doesnt have the clout yet. Even Randle is scared to go away from Ant. If you look at the last three game winning attempts these are horrible plays because Ant goes off script and he refuses to pass to open men, fading over double 3s
@nydibs
@nydibs 14 күн бұрын
@cambury - yeah, Finch draws up such amazing plays, and Ant just goes off script, you need to trade him
@cambury
@cambury 14 күн бұрын
@nydibs do you really believe at 5 seconds the coach would draw up something that starts 60 feet from the basket? Even Ant knows he's wrong which is why he answered how he did in his post game.

Its clear what happened here. Wolves made a big trade that is not panning out. They cant win with the current roster. At a high-level they are screwed. So Finch realized this and the last few games he is giving dikky a chance just tobsee what a different look he can provide for this team. Guess what rob is showing why he should be starting in the next week or so. Antman loves this kid. It seems like Ant is pushing for him to being played more. It can't be like Rob misses two threes and hes out. He needs to let Rob straight up coook. Greenlight this kid. Hes a professional bucket getter... that three will fall... it will RAINNNNN!!!! They must believe in this kid and give him 25 a night to be ready for playoffs. DO NOT HOLD HIM BACK ANYMORE THAN YOU ALREADY HAVE FINCH!!! WHAT A TERRIBKE COACH
