We thought the zoo's animals should enjoy some Halloween fun on Sunday, October 28 too!
Enrichment is a regular part of animal care each day at the zoo, but holidays provide zookeepers with a chance to get creative and work with the theme surrounding each holiday. Area curator, Dr. Malu Celli explains, "Every day zookeepers are challenged to find new ways to provide enrichment to the animals in their care. Halloween pumpkins provide a unique enrichment opportunity because some animals like to play with them and some like to eat them so we've planned a full-day of enrichment activities using them."
"We're proud to provide the Zoo with these pumpkins for their enrichment activities" says Sarah Boutron, events and promotions manager for Calgary Co-op. The local grocer generously donated approximately 100 pumpkins for the event.
