Rick is welcome to his own opinion about her debate performance, but I think we need to recognize that the standards for women are completely different than they are for men. If she would have come across too aggressive, to many people who have internalized misogyny, she would have turned off more people with what could be perceived as shrewishness. Her incredulity reflected the feelings of many of the viewers, and many of her responses were through her very readable body language and expressions. She would have also eaten up so much time rebutting his responses without being able to emphasize her policy plans, which, as it is, some swing voters are still unhappy that they didn’t hear enough of. She did as much as she could’ve in the time allotted and let Trump hang himself with his craziness.

My great aunt raised me. She had no children, but she had raised her husband’s also (who is her second husband) one child’s whom was an adult by then, her children. so she had raised kids before me and my three siblings popped onto the scene… My mother died when I was two and my dad was in the Navy and wanted to put us in an orphanage, and my aunt said ‘No way, Jose”, these are the salt of the earth …them. This really pisses me off. People have no idea what the hell they’re talking about and they have no empathy. What about the children? They don’t have parents (like me at two years old, WTF was I supposed to do ?)so a “stepmother” or a family guardian or what about the idea of a godparent… still isn’t good enough for them… What a bunch of, you know what …bullshi!

Can you imagine trying to debate JD Vance? An intelligent man who has absolutely no integrity, no tether to the truth and no shame in doubling, triplinga nd quadrupling down on his lies regardless of who gets hurt as he has the authority to define reality. I do not envy Governor Walz.
@joandolliedoyle775Ай бұрын
I do hope Walz prepares well for the debate. I do wonder at JD Vance's intelligence. Is he is academically intelligent but low in emotional intelligence? I think he will not be as unfocused and as easily baited as Trump. He does have to defend some terrible Trump behaviour and political positions and his own past and present comments. His votes in the Senate don't back his attempt at populism either. Walz is a fundamentally good and relatable man, I think that people see that. It makes it very difficult for MAGA attacks to have any effect on his popularity.

Kamala didn’t “go after” Trump as you suggest because women know there’s a double standard. He goal was to tell her story, touch on her policies, and look presidential. Anything beyond that would have been judged to be “shrill” or “catty” or “a bit*%.” Women know why she didn’t rise to the bait. You should too.

With deserved respect to Ungar .. I think Kamala said -most- of what she could / would have said, with the exeception of quick, truth-based sound bites, placed at the beginning of her response to a new question. I think that a rebuttal (or a refuetal, in TrumpSpeak) would only devolve the conversation. I also think her strategy of Less is More, and letting him dig his own hole was stellar.
@wanderlustworldschooling543Ай бұрын
Worse- when Vance WAS asked about the LEGAL immigrants, he doubled down and claimed they WERE ILLEGAL because the LEGAL protections that allowed them LEGAL status was apparently an ILLEGAL waving of some magic wand by HARRIS! 🤯 So HE claims they are ILLEGAL and will continue to refer to them as ILLEGAL! I’m seriously interested in a conversation about ELECTED OFFICIALS unilaterally deciding a LAW is somehow still ILLEGAL. 😲🤦🏻♀️

If she had tried to debunk all of Trump's lies, she never would have gotten to say anything else. She'd be trying to keep track of all of them and coherently explain them all in real time, an impossible task. If she tried doing that, she would have looked lost and flustered. I worry that her debate strategy was so masterfully focused on demonstrating for voters the monstrous national security vulnerability in how manipulable he is by our foreign adversaries (and even partners!) that a lot of people who aren’t as focused on geopolitics wouldn’t understand how important the contrast between him and her is. I viewed that debate as a national security story arc with a few domestic points layered on top. As far as her responding to his lunacy, I think she did all she needed to with facial reactions in the split-screen much more effectively than if she had wasted time talking to it.
